Po had been paying close attention the entire time to the academy that was known to be the toughest outside of Ghostrun and Muhlhauser, it was known as the Dark Academy, Papolov Academy. They even wore black and silver uniformed gear nonetheless they specialized in some of the darkest beasts known to beast masters.
Their tank was a coconut spider, they had a vampire bat and a wolverine beast master as their damage dealers with a black tree beast that gave off a vampiric aura that could suck the life energy out of enemy beasts and beast masters. Then they had two support beasts that flew in the air, a gargoyle that wasn't made of stone but of a mud like substance then a raven.
They moved together as a unit toward us as the spider and werewolf were in the front and the bat closely behind. The pets were all summoned and the beast masters were all melee users so they stuck closely. The three up front had shields and the three behind had a spear, trident, and a poleaxe.
Adam blinked behind them but they were specifically waiting for him to do so and with precision they all changed their stances and reacted to Adam behind them. The bat beast master with the shield lunged at Adam as he was apparently on Adam duty. He engaged Adam quickly before Adam could get his attack off on the tree he had blinked behind. The raven and gargoyle beast masters took flight with their spear and trident and came crashing down on Abby Travis and Joey.
We had never experienced this type of coordinated attacks being done to try to take us all out at once but they had none going for me which confused me. Maddy and I were up in the air and I had been waiting to fire at the right time but so far hadn't seen any opportunity. I probably made the mistake of leaving Maddy but to be honest I thought it was going to be an easy win for us like the rest of the fights.
I moved towards Adam to help him as he was being outnumbered two to one and they seemed to have anticipated it. As soon as I left Maddy the two capable of flying left their fight with the three and doubled up on Maddy. I didn't see it but Maddy told me that they attacked at range with their spear and trident to pinch her in between and subsequently ejected out of the arena.
Abby started her lightning storm which ended up hitting Joey as he was about to dodge an attack which caused him to be eliminated. Tim was engaged with the wolverine who got in a killing blow to the head of Tim and so Travis was eliminated. Abby by herself was surrounded by four beast masters in no time and they quickly eliminated her.
I had only made it to Adam's area as I turned around to see Abby get eliminated and I realized I had messed up by leaving Maddy alone. Adam and I were now left by ourselves and we hadn't eliminated any of the other individuals on their team thus far. I for whatever reason decided to land behind Adam and regroup with him.
'I will defend us, you two fight.' Wispy suddenly spoke to me.
"I like his idea" Adam spoke through the panda tribe spell and that is when we realized that he heard Wispy.
"Wait Wispy said that to me, you heard him?" I inquired.
'Arcane magic is most powerful against these types of beasts so dont hold back your arcane flame Adam.' Wispy informed him through the spell link.
Suddenly Adam's wicked smile came to his face, "Wispy, maximum defense!" Adam then charged forward with his katana out causing the bat beast master to raise his shield. Adam then blinked between the tree and bat beast masters and despite being in the range of the vampiric aura of the tree Adam put his sword into the tree's center mass then with his left leg pushed the bat beast master off balance for me to shoot him with an arcane missile to the head. I unloaded another arcane missile into the tree to help finish it off as Adam's stab didn't do the trick.
The four that had finished off Abby weren't able to make it to us in time to save their friends but they still had a lot of confidence since it was four on two. Adam and I continued to move forward with Wispy hovering between us offering protection. The gargoyle and raven did the same lift into the air and then tried to land on Adam in a charging motion. They must have forgotten about his blink ability but basically they landed on nothing as Adam simply blinked past them. The gargoyle beast master landed wrong and my arcane missile hit him squarely where I aimed at its heart.
The gargoyle was ejected and my shot at the raven missed as she wasn't stumbling and saw it in time to dodge. The wolverine beast master engaged Adam with his axe and he was proficient with it to say the least. I shot a firewall arrow just behind Adam to help defend him from the two trying to pinch him together. I also sent an arcane barrier just behind it to prevent the spear being thrown into his back. The raven was furious that I was cutting off her possibilities of getting to Adam.
I calmed my nerves as I realized I had been firing and not paying attention to the placement of my shots. Wispy yelled at me in my head to focus on offense. He has the defense and that is when I realized my shots missed everything and the firewall and barrier were Wispy's. The raven charged at me but was blocked by an arcane barrier by Wispy which was frustrating her even more. She leapt up into the air to attack Wispy directly which was her biggest mistake.
The sudden leap gave me a clean shot at her with an arcane missile and now that I had focused my breathing for a moment I was locked in and took aim releasing the missile directly into the raven beast master's head. Adam at the same time slipped and Wispy put a barrier just above him that blocked the killing blow of the axe being swung down. The wolverine lunged out of the beast master's body as the beast master lost balance from the barrier block. Dante was anticipating the sudden leap and did the same from Adam's body intercepting the wolverine mid-air.
The two heads of Dante had grabbed the shoulders of the wolverine and were driving it back as he spewed arcane fire out. The wolverine lunged back into its beast master before Dante could finish it off but I was already sending an arcane missile at the off-balanced beast master knocking him out of the arena.
The coconut spider beast master who was too far away from Adam to help out and too far away from me had been unable to do anything but stand there and watch his team lose. When we focused on him and the fact that he was standing off to the side not helping we suddenly felt like we might be in trouble.
'Something is off, be ready for a surprise!' Wispy spoke to us.
'Where did the spider go?' a gruff voice that I had never heard before suddenly spoke up and I realized it was Dante.
Adam waited for me to reach him and we closed the gap between us and the coconut spider beast master leaning against his poleaxe. When we were about 15 yards away he suddenly spoke up while adjusting his body into a defensive position.
"I was told that you, Adam Lock were the reason why we can't participate in more than one event so I decided that if it were left to fate we would have a one on one. Tell your pathetic wisp master to stand down and fight me one on one!" The coconut spider beast master had now grabbed his poleaxe and was swinging it in a defensive motion.
I was not aware of weapon techniques at this point as it was a more advanced theory of weapon training that first years only knew of them if it was a family technique. So apparently this beast master had a family poleaxe technique called Pitter Patter which sounds ridiculous until you understand that not even pitter or patter will get through once they get going. The speed of which the motion started to happen created a light wind around us pulling towards him.
Adam somehow knew or had an idea of what was going on as he didn't say anything to anyone he just stood there watching the movement as close as he could. He suddenly blinked with his katana swinging the moment he came out of his blink, knocking the beast master out in one shot. To be honest I wish I could describe the angles of his body correctly to show you how he blinked and swung his katana.
"Victory! Arcanum from Ghostrun Academy!" The place went bonkers.
