Chapter 99 - CHAPTER 99: Movie Night

KAYLA'S POV (Continuing):

I narrowed my eyes, then crossed my arms. "Anyway… why are you here?"

He uncrossed his arms and gestured toward the TV area.

"Movie night," he said simply. "Let's start."

I blinked. "It's still early evening."

"The movie is long," he replied. "And I still have to finish both my math assignment and yours, since you always forget."

I gasped in offense. "I do not always forget."

He stared at me.

I stared back.

Then I sighed dramatically.

"Okay… maybe I do."

He gave me a smug look.

"Exactly."

"Fine," I muttered. "Wait for a moment. I'll go upstairs and change real quick."

"Okay," he said. "I'll set everything up on the TV."

I turned and started toward the stairs.

Then,

"By the way…"

I paused and glanced back.

Theo was smirking.

"Nice dance."

My eye twitched.

Without hesitation, I slipped off one heel and launched it at him.

"Ow....!" He ducked too late as it smacked his shoulder. "That hurt!"

"Very good," I said coldly. "As expected."

He rubbed his arm, glaring. "Violent."

"Observant."

Then I turned and marched upstairs before he could say anything else.

A little while later, I came back downstairs wearing my usual house outfit, comfortable shorts, an oversized shirt, and no trace of the glamorous shopping queen from earlier.

Theo had set everything up perfectly.

Of course he had.

The lights were dimmed just enough.

Blankets were spread across the couch.

Snacks arranged on the coffee table.

Drinks ready.

Even the remote was placed neatly in the center like we were about to conduct a formal ceremony.

I stopped on the last step and looked at him suspiciously.

"Why do you set up movie nights better than rich people host parties?"

He glanced at me. "Because unlike you, I'm competent."

"Rude."

"True."

I ignored him and dropped onto the couch.

"So…" I said, grabbing a cushion. "What country is the movie from? And what's the name?"

He sat down and picked up the remote.

"It's from India."

That immediately caught my interest.

"And the name?"

"Mohabbatein," he said.

I frowned. "What does that mean?"

"It means Love Stories."

I turned to him slowly.

"Love stories?" I repeated suspiciously. "It's romantic?"

"Yeah." He looked at me. "Why? Problem?"

"No," I said, shrugging. "Just asking. A few years ago, when I first heard the movie Nun, I thought it was religious."

Theo blinked.

"And?"

"It turned out to be horror."

For one second, there was silence.

Then he burst out laughing.

I glared at him.

"Stop making fun of me and start the movie!"

"Okay, okay," he said, still chuckling. "Here."

He pressed play.
