I didn't go back home immediately after leaving Ava's place because I knew exactly how that would go. I'd sit there and replay the same conversation in my head, thinking about what I said, what she said, and none of it would change anything, so I kept driving past the turn without slowing down.
My phone buzzed once on the seat beside me and I didn't check it because I already knew who it was.
By the time I got to the building, most of the lights were off, which worked for me since I didn't want anyone around. I walked in without saying anything to the front desk and took the elevator up, already thinking ahead of what I needed to look at.
When the doors opened, I stepped out and went straight to my office. I didn't sit immediately, I went to the system panel first, turned it on, and pulled up the internal access logs.
Emily and Caroline showed up exactly where I expected them to, same names, same problem, nothing had changed.
