Chapter 150 - Iron Man vs. The Warriors of Asgard

Tony had always been a playboy, and becoming Iron Man hadn't tamed him. He remained as wild and free-spirited as ever, and his sharp tongue was as lethal as ever. He wasted no time in fanning the flames.

"What's this? Humanity's new toy?"

Fandral stepped forward, his voice cold. "Do not stand in our way. We are here to recover Mjolnir. The majesty of Asgard is not to be trifled with."

Asgard was in crisis; Fandral had no patience for human banter. They had a world to save.

"Asgard? Sounds like a fairy tale," Tony retorted. "I don't care where you're from, but this is America. You follow our laws here, or I'll treat you to a free meal of prison food."

The words had barely left Tony's lips.

Volstagg, already impatient, lunged forward. "Try my axe first!"

"The God of War is angry!" Tony quipped, firing a repulsor blast from his palm. The impact sent Volstagg flying backward. "Too bad the times have changed!"

"Hmph!"

Volstagg quickly scrambled to his feet. The repulsor blast had struck his armor, but the impact had been absorbed, leaving him virtually unharmed.

Although Volstagg's armor wasn't made of Uru metal, it was still forged from the finest metals of Asgard. As one of the Three Warriors of Asgard and Thor's comrade-in-arms, his armor's defensive capabilities were comparable to Adamantium, if not quite as strong.

Ordinary Earthly weapons were useless against it.

"Step back, all of you. I'll dismantle this iron man myself," Volstagg commanded, gesturing for Fandral and the others to retreat as he stepped forward to challenge Iron Man alone.

Asgardian tradition dictated that challenges be fought one-on-one. Moreover, facing a mere mortal, the pride of an Asgardian warrior forbade them from overwhelming a single opponent with superior numbers.

In terms of raw power, Volstagg could never match Thor at his peak. However, the average Asgardian's constitution was three times that of a human, and Volstagg was among the strongest of his kind. Known as the Lion of Asgard, he may have appeared portly, but on Earth, he moved with surprising agility and speed.

After Volstagg blocked or dodged several of Tony's repulsor blasts, Tony realized the attacks were ineffective. He ordered J.A.R.V.I.S. to engage the thrusters, and the repulsors in his palms and boots ignited, propelling him into the sky with a trail of smoke.

"Get down here!" Volstagg roared.

He was clearly more powerful than his cinematic counterpart. In this universe, Asgardian warriors possessed the ability to fly. Volstagg leaped into the air, his axe raised in a fierce strike as he charged toward Iron Man.

Tony never expected Volstagg to be able to fly. Caught off guard, he failed to dodge and could only raise his arm to block.

The impact of metal clashing against metal rang out with a sharp *clang*, sending sparks flying. Tony's arm went numb, and Volstagg's battleaxe left a visible mark on the Iron Armor.

The powerful impact sent Tony reeling, knocking him off balance and blasting him backward. Before he could hit the ground, the thrusters on his back ignited, stabilizing his posture. He immediately charged back, determined to teach these barbarians a lesson.

In truth, Tony was not an impulsive man. He knew full well they were extraterrestrials, yet he chose to engage—he wanted to gauge their strength.

As the saying goes, "Weak nations have no diplomatic standing." To test their power, he had to demonstrate Earth's strength, or they would be looked down upon.

The Asgardians had always held themselves above everyone else, controlling the best resources in the Nine Realms. Superior to ordinary mortals in every way, they had naturally developed an arrogant and haughty streak.

Both Thor and Loki were no exception; in the original timeline, it took meeting the Hulk for them to change.

Volstagg shared this same pride, holding a deep-seated contempt for humans. His fighting style was primitive, but with his superhuman strength, speed, and the razor-sharp axe in his hand, he could cause devastating destruction.

After taking a hit, Thor realized his opponent was incredibly strong. Even with the Mark VI armor, he was still at a disadvantage in a contest of pure strength. He immediately changed his strategy to ranged attacks.

Since he didn't know the enemy's background or the power behind them, Tony didn't hold back to kill. He refrained from using his more lethal laser weapons, instead raising his arm and firing a micro-armor-piercing round at Volstagg's shoulder.

With J.A.R.V.I.S. assisting him, Tony didn't have to worry about aiming.

*Swoosh—*

A micro-armor-piercing round shot out, striking Volstagg's shoulder.

Volstagg's armor wasn't completely seamless. The shot hit a gap in the armor, and while it didn't draw blood, Volstagg still felt as if he'd been struck hard with a hammer, leaving his arm numb.

"His skin is damn thick! Even armor-piercing rounds can't penetrate it!"

Tony was surprised. These aliens had monstrously tough bodies. He had expected the shot to at least incapacitate the enemy, but it hadn't even broken the skin.

The impact of the armor-piercing round sent Volstagg tumbling through the air. After rolling twice, he landed hard on his backside.

"Humans have developed quite well over the years, to actually create a weapon like this," Sif remarked with a hint of admiration.

Coulson, unwilling to make enemies of the aliens, grabbed a megaphone and shouted, "Stop fighting!"

But neither Volstagg nor Tony paid him any mind, quickly resuming their chase.

Though Volstagg could fly, he was no match for the Mark VI armor's speed. Tony began kiting him, keeping his distance to suppress the giant.

"Coward! You dare not face me head-on!" Volstagg roared.

"It's called intelligence," Tony taunted. "Are all your alien weapons this primitive?"

"You will pay for your arrogance!"

Volstagg hurled his axe. It spun through the air toward Tony, who easily doded it. But to his surprise, the axe curved mid-flight, banking sharply back to strike the thrusters on his armor's back.

Tony stumbled, muttering, "That thing defies the laws of physics!"

"Screw your laws!"

Frost-covered, Volstagg lunged forward, slamming a furious fist into the Iron Armor's faceplate. If not for the armor's protection, Volstagg's enraged punch would have surely splattered Tony's brains.

Even so, Tony was nearly knocked senseless, and the data on his HUD began to glitch.

After the first punch, Volstagg seized the opportunity to mount the armor, raining down a flurry of left-right-left-right hooks that rang against the Iron Armor with a series of metallic *clangs*.

Fortunately, the armor had just been upgraded with Vibranium, vastly enhancing its defenses. If it had been the original Mark V, Volstagg would have likely torn it to pieces by now.

After a few more blows, Tony couldn't maintain his flight. The two plummeted from the sky, crashing into the ground in a cloud of dust and rolling into a tangled heap.

While Coulson was still hesitating to give the order to fire, the bald Agent Sitwell already barked, "The aliens have attacked! Return fire immediately!"

At his command, the surrounding agents opened fire on Sif and her companions.

Bullets struck their armor, sending sparks flying.

But the gunfire was all bark and no bite. Ordinary bullets couldn't kill Asgardians; at most, they only caused a bit of pain.

Agent Sitwell's actions were nothing short of provoking Sif and her warriors.

They were veterans who had conquered the Nine Realms and slain countless enemies. They were ready to unleash a massacre.

Just then, a staff descended from the sky and slammed into the center of the battlefield. Then, the piercing sound of a suona playing the *Overture of the Blade Society* echoed through the air.
