Reeves watched from the sidelines. Making notes on her tablet. Her expression giving nothing away.
Nolan forced himself to think. To analyze the problem instead of just reacting to it.
Rome's portals were fast but limited in range. He could reposition quickly but needed line of sight to open them. Nolan's light constructs were more versatile but slower to deploy at full power.
They needed zones. Territories. A way to divide the arena that played to their individual strengths.
"Take the close range," Nolan said. "Anything within twenty meters is yours."
Rome paused. Processed the suggestion. "And you?"
"I'll take distance. Anything beyond twenty meters I can hit with projectiles faster than you can portal there."
"That assumes we can communicate target acquisition in real time."
"Then we communicate."
Rome looked at him. Something shifting behind his eyes.
"Alright. Let's try it."
The next sequence went better. Not perfect. Better.
