Chapter 39 - Ch 39- Countered

In the next second, Hakari began his own probing. With his Cursed Energy fully unleashed, not only was his speed astonishing, but every strike could be said to be at a peak level.

Mahito did not activate Idle Transfiguration at first, instead clashing with Hakari using only Cursed Energy reinforcement.

The thudding sounds of their exchange echoed within this small space as if metal were colliding with metal.

Even Mahito had to admit that the effect of Domain Expansion was indeed powerful, but unfortunately, Hakari's methods of attack and the upper limit of his Cursed Energy restricted the potential of his Cursed Technique.

Hakari did not have the outstanding output of Satoru Gojo; he mostly relied on throwing punches bolstered by the recovery effects brought by infinite Cursed Energy. This method of use wasn't necessarily wrong, but it wasn't efficient in terms of Cursed Energy usage, and the upper limit of Cursed Energy his body could carry further limited his performance.

If one were to make a comparison, the upper limit of Hakari's punches might not even match the critical hit of Nanami triggering the Ratio Technique 'Collapse', and naturally could not rival the attacks of Tsukumo Yuki's Star Rage; his only advantage was that he could maintain peak performance with every strike.

After understanding this, Mahito began attempting to kill Hakari, aiming an Idle Transfiguration at Hakari's chest, directly blowing his chest cavity wide open, but it was still not enough to kill him.

Right before Mahito's eyes, Hakari's body completely restored to its original state in an instant.

So, fatal wounds to the body aren't enough? Logically speaking, destroying the brain should work, but the defensive level in this state is quite high; I might not be able to achieve a direct explosion effect.

Mahito thought of Satoru Gojo outside the Curtain and also needed to consider the issue of leaving later.

To be honest, Hakari was also shocked by Mahito's strike just now. He couldn't imagine what the result would have been if he hadn't been in the Jackpot state of Domain Expansion during that Idle Transfiguration.

Furthermore, there was almost no sign of Mahito's Cursed Technique activating. If the opponent were any other Jujutsu Sorcerer, he couldn't imagine what the outcome would be.

Hakari was starting to understand why even a Special Grade Sorcerer like Tsukumo Yuki would die at his hands.

While Mahito was thinking, he didn't even bother to stop Hakari's Jackpot time from ending, allowing him to reopen his Domain Expansion 'Domain Expansion' to draw for another Jackpot.

Hakari was very puzzled to see Mahito standing there lost in thought and indifferent. Mahito clearly knew the information about his Cursed Technique, so why was he doing nothing at this moment?

Mahito eventually noticed Hakari's gaze and waved his hand casually.

"Oh, don't mind me. Go ahead and draw your Jackpot. Four minutes and eleven seconds, right? I'm not in a hurry."

Hearing Mahito's words, Hakari immediately felt very uneasy.

After the exchange just now, Hakari realized that he did not possess the ability to kill Mahito in a short amount of time. Thus, his plan was to use the Jackpot state to stall Mahito until the Curtain that refused Satoru Gojo entry ended. As long as Satoru Gojo could take action, everything could be easily resolved.

After all, for a Cursed Technique like Mahito's that seemingly required contact to activate, it would lose all meaning before Satoru Gojo's Limitless.

But Mahito's uncharacteristic behavior of ignoring him, even not obstructing his Jackpot draw—could it be that he had reached a level where Mahito didn't even need to care?

As he thought of this, the sound of hitting the Jackpot rang out, and Hakari once again entered his peak state after winning the Jackpot, with the domain completely dissolving at that moment.

But this time, Mahito was no longer indifferent; instead, he took the initiative to launch an attack on Hakari.

To Hakari's surprise, the Cursed Energy wrapped around the punch thrown at him suddenly became as dark as ink, accompanied by a crackle like thunder.

Crap? Black Flash! For real? A Cursed Spirit can actually land a Black Flash...!?

Before Hakari's thoughts could finish flashing through his mind, Mahito's fist slammed heavily into his chest, the massive impact embedding him directly into the metal-infused wall of the room.

Mahito didn't care about Hakari's condition, because he hadn't landed the Black Flash to kill him. Feeling the temporary boost to his body brought by the Black Flash, Mahito muttered to himself with satisfaction.

"Since Cursed Spirits do not have the option of Reversal technique, the boost is indeed in Cursed Energy and technique precision."

So Mahito's plan was very simple: to use Hakari, this indestructible punching bag in the Jackpot state of 'Domain Expansion', to farm Black Flashes within these four minutes and eleven seconds. This would allow him to stack multiple Black Flash reinforcements in a short time, just as Sukuna did in the final battle of the manga.

The difference from Sukuna, however, was that Mahito wasn't using Black Flashes to reclaim his peak state while in a terrible condition, but rather to gain extra reinforcement while already at his peak!

Unfortunately, Hakari did not hear Mahito's words, and even if he had, he might not have immediately understood their meaning or what Mahito intended to do.

When Hakari charged out from the wall, Mahito's fist swung again. As he instinctively raised his arms to parry, Mahito shifted and opened his palm, touching Hakari's arm directly.

Hakari couldn't react in time, but he wasn't too worried. His Jackpot time was still very abundant; recovering from another attack like the one before would only take the blink of an eye.

But was that really the case?

Mahito used Idle Transfiguration directly, deforming Hakari's arms like playdough, causing them to shrink directly into his body and turning him into an armless man.

Hakari was shocked to find that he was completely helpless against this! Even the Reversal technique automatically triggered by the Jackpot could not take effect to regenerate his arms.

Because fundamentally, Mahito hadn't inflicted damage on Hakari; he had only changed the shape of Hakari's soul. Therefore, even a Reversal technique could not restore his hands.

Unless Hakari cut off the flesh and tissue representing his hands himself, only then could he reshape his body through Reversal technique. Furthermore, he would have to actively release the Reversal technique to reshape it; the automatic healing from the Jackpot would only restore his hands to the state they were in after being deformed by Mahito.

Simply put, Domain Expansion is like constantly reverting to a Save file of the body in perfect condition, but Mahito modified that Save file. Hakari would need to rely on his own power to find the original perfect Save file to restore the record.

From this perspective, Mahito's Idle Transfiguration undoubtedly counters Hakari's Domain Expansion.

"What?!"

Just as Hakari was beyond shocked, Mahito's fist came again. This time, it wasn't a feint to release Idle Transfiguration like before, but a Black Flash fused with that pitch-black Cursed Energy once more! Two consecutive Black Flashes!
