Chapter 97 - The Truth of the Uchiha Clan Massacre (Part I)

Nagi brought Sasuke to their usual lounge.

After closing the door, Sasuke immediately stepped forward, unable to contain himself.

Nagi looked at him calmly.

"The time has come. It's time you learned the truth behind the Uchiha Clan Massacre."

Sasuke sat upright, expression rigid.

"To understand the massacre, you must first understand the history of the Uchiha Clan."

"Our clan's history?"

"Yes. Calm yourself and listen carefully."

"…Alright."

The Warring States Era

"The history of the Uchiha Clan dates back sixty to seventy years — to the Warring States Period.

At that time, the Uchiha and the Senju were the two strongest clans in the Shinobi World. They fought endlessly.

Eventually, two legendary figures emerged: Hashirama Senju and MEidara Uchiha — the twin heroes of the era.

They led their respective clans into battle, and for a time, the balance between them held."

Nagi's tone grew heavier.

"But that balance shattered when Izuna Uchiha — MEidara's younger brother — was gravely wounded by Tobirama Senju."

Sasuke listened intently.

"Izuna's injuries proved fatal. Before his death, he entrusted his eyes to his brother so that MEidara could inherit his power and protect the Uchiha Clan.

It was then that MEidara awakened the Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan."

Sasuke frowned.

"The… Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan?"

It was the first time he had heard the term.

"Yes.

A normal Mangekyō Sharingan consumes dōjutsu power with every use — that is, Yin Release chakra.

As I've told you before, if Yin Release chakra becomes insufficient, the body compensates with Yang Release chakra — particularly from the ocular system. Over time, this results in blindness.

The Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan possesses Yin Release chakra of such superior quality and quantity that it prevents this degrEidation."

Sasuke's heart skipped.

"Then when Itachi told me to come to him with the same eyes… was he planning to use mine to create his Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan?"

"Sasuke," Nagi said evenly, "let me finish."

MEidara's Rebellion and Its Aftermath

"Even after awakening the Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan, MEidara could not defeat Hashirama Senju.

Eventually, the two reconciled and founded KonohagaShiranui Kūre (Hidden Leaf Village).

However, due to ideological differences, MEidara later left the village.

Four years afterward, he returned and fought Hashirama at the Valley of the End, controlling the Nine-Tails.

MEidara lost."

Nagi paused.

"But his rebellion left deep scars.

The Senju and other clans grew increasingly distrustful of the Uchiha. Suspicion festered. Alienation deepened."

He continued.

"Tobirama Senju later established the Konoha Military Police Force, assigning most of its positions to Uchiha clan members.

On the surface, this appeared to be trust.

In reality, it isolated the Uchiha politically."

Sasuke's brows knit.

"The Uchiha's proud temperament made conflict resolution with civilians difficult. Friction increased. Resentment accumulated — day by day."

The Nine-Tails' Attack

"Minato Namikaze, the Fourth Hokage, and your father FugaShiranui Kū Uchiha were close.

Minato intended to address the Uchiha issue.

But then the Nine-Tails' Attack occurred.

Minato died."

Sasuke's fists tightened.

"During that crisis, the Uchiha were ordered not to engage in combat — only to protect civilians.

That order became the turning point."

Nagi's voice cooled.

"Someone exploited that decision.

Through manipulation and misinformation, civilians were led to believe the Uchiha refused to fight.

Mistrust deepened."

He continued:

"When the village was reconstructed, territorial redistribution followed.

Using the excuse that the Uchiha had contributed nothing during the Nine-Tails' Attack, their compound was relocated to the outskirts of the village."

Nagi's gaze sharpened.

"And most interesting of all… the person who participated in issuing that order was the same one who oversaw the relocation."

Sasuke's composure shattered.

"Who was it?! Who framed the Uchiha Clan?!"

Nagi did not answer directly.

"Sasuke. In this world, actions follow利益 — benefit.

Ask yourself: who gained the most?"

Sasuke forced himself to breathe.

He thought of the Nine-Tails' Attack. Of the current layout of Konoha. Of Root.

His eyes hardened.

"The Konoha leadership."

Nagi tilted his head.

"Explain."

"They issued the order to confine my father. And during my time in Root, I noticed something.

The leadership's clans now reside in central Konoha.

That land… used to belong to the Uchiha Clan."

Nagi nodded.

"Correct — largely."

The Uchiha's Own Faults

"However," Nagi continued, "the Uchiha were not without fault.

The Military Police title did not grant real authority nor respect.

Despite contributing significantly in past wars, they received little acknowledgment.

Over time, your clan's leadership grew impatient.

Conflicts with both civilians and officials intensified."

Sasuke listened in silence.

"Your father ultimately began planning a coup d'état — to reclaim what he believed was rightfully the Uchiha's."

Sasuke's eyes widened.

A coup.

He hadn't known.

But he trusted Nagi.

Nagi smiled faintly.

"Sasuke. Criticizing one's father is disrespectful. What I'm about to say may not paint him kindly."

Sasuke's expression hardened.

"He's been dead for years. The truth matters more."

Nagi nodded.

"Very well.

FugaShiranui Kū Uchiha — known as 'Wicked Eye FugaShiranui Kū' — possessed an intimidating presence."

Sasuke silently agreed.

"Yet despite his fierce exterior, he was indecisive.

That is not the temperament of a strong leader.

The higher-ups repeatedly tested his limits, suppressing the Uchiha step by step.

And he endured it."

Nagi continued calmly.

"He was neither fully resolute nor fully submissive.

He devised the coup and used Itachi — who served in the ANBU — as the clan's informant.

Yet even after the plan was discovered by the leadership, he hesitated.

He neither advanced nor withdrew."

Sasuke lowered his gaze.

Nagi softened slightly.

"But you cannot blame him entirely.

By that time, many powerful Uchiha were already gone — Tekka, Yashiro, Inabi, Shisui…

Shisui was dead. Itachi had turned.

Even with FugaShiranui Kū and a few elites remaining, the Uchiha could not defeat the entire village.

Had they revolted, they would have been branded traitors.

FugaShiranui Kū was trapped."

He paused.

"And in the end… he chose to let events unfold."

Sasuke's breathing grew uneven.

"Let… events unfold?"

Nagi's eyes met his directly.

"Do you truly believe FugaShiranui Kū was powerless before Itachi's Mangekyō Sharingan?"

Sasuke's pupils trembled.

A horrifying possibility surfaced.

"…No. That can't be…"

"…Father. Mother…"

Nagi spoke quietly.

"Yes.

They chose to die at Itachi's hands."
