Sasuke's breathing grew uneven.
"After the Konoha Crush, he returned under the pretext of capturing Naruto — but in truth, he came to assess your progress. To provoke you again. To deepen your hatred.
When the time was right, you would challenge him in a final brotherly battle.
And he intended to die at your hands."
Sasuke's eyes widened.
"Die… by me? Why?! Why would he plan something like that?!"
"Because his love for you ran deeper than anything else," Nagi answered quietly.
"Deeper than the clan. Deeper than your parents. Deeper than his lover. Even deeper than Konoha itself.
To a frightening degree."
Sasuke stood frozen.
"The Mangekyō's side effects had already ravaged his body. He was terminally ill — his time limited. He could no longer protect you.
So he orchestrated his own death… to protect you longer."
Nagi continued:
"If you killed him, your vengeance would be fulfilled. There was a high chance you would awaken the Mangekyō Sharingan.
And to counter the Mangekyō's blindness, you would inevitably transplant his eyes.
Secondly, by killing him — a criminal branded as a traitor — you would become a hero of Konoha."
Sasuke trembled.
"He was terminally ill…?
And how could he be so certain I'd become a hero? What if I learned the truth and chose to destroy Konoha instead?!"
Nagi's gaze sharpened.
"He wasn't afraid.
That is what makes him terrifying."
Sasuke swallowed hard.
"Shisui's Kotoamatsukami had already been prepared.
If you transplanted Itachi's Mangekyō Sharingan, then upon using its dōjutsu power, a hidden Kotoamatsukami would activate."
Sasuke's face drained of color.
"A directive… titled 'Protect Konoha.'"
Silence fell.
"He— he intended to—"
"Yes," Nagi said evenly. "He intended to overwrite your will entirely.
Whether you wished to protect Konoha or destroy it — you would protect it.
Your revenge against the village would have been doomed from the beginning."
Sasuke staggered back.
"He wanted his beloved little brother to guard Konoha.
And for Konoha to, in turn, guard his beloved brother.
That was the ideal he pursued."
The Awakening
"Why?! Why didn't he consider my feelings?!"
"Because in his eyes," Nagi replied softly, "you were always the younger brother who needed protection.
No matter how strong you became, you were still a child to him.
He believed he alone could shoulder everything.
So he chose a path he deemed best for you — and tried to force you down it."
Sasuke suddenly burst into manic laughter.
"Hahaha!
What does he understand?!
Wasn't he nothing more than a pawn manipulated by the Konoha Council of Elders?!
What right did he have to decide my future?!
What right did he have to script my life?!
Did he ever once consider how I felt?!
Itachi Uchiha… you self-righteous fool!"
His Three-Tomoe Sharingan began spinning violently.
The tomoe blurred together — fusing — reshaping.
A six-pointed star pattern formed within his eyes.
"Regardless of your reasons… I cannot forgive you.
Not on behalf of the children who died.
Not on behalf of the clan."

Sasuke stood and bowed deeply.
"Thank you for telling me the truth.
I will personally end Itachi Uchiha.
And I will protect the Uchiha Clan myself."
He hesitated.
"But… Nagi… the Konoha Council of Elders…"
He knew Nagi now stood among the village's leadership — though not of that era.
He worried his revenge might interfere with Nagi's plans.
Nagi chuckled.
"The fact that you consider that means you've grown.
Your mother would be proud."
Sasuke flushed faintly.
"…Then what about them? What should I do?"
Nagi folded his hands thoughtfully.
"First, the Third Hokage.
He wished for a peaceful resolution — like Shisui.
But he clung to Tobirama's policies on the surface, while harboring deep caution toward the Uchiha's power and potential rebellion.
He hesitated too long."
"Second — your clan's greatest adversary — Danzō Shimura.
He was the one who relocated the Uchiha to the outskirts.
The one who manipulated public opinion.
The one who stole Shisui's eye.
The one who issued the extermination order."
"And finally — Koharu Utatane and Homura MitoGato.
They sided with Danzō."
Nagi's glasses caught a flash of light.
"Sasuke… act with a clear conscience.
Those who benefited from that era… must eventually repay what they owe."
Sasuke fell silent for a long moment.
Then he nodded.
"I understand.
I know what I must do."
