Chapter 20 - Ch 20: Defeat

The Zenin training courtyard was already gathering spectators by the time I arrived.

Word spread fast in this clan. Mostly because Ogi must have spread it in order to have a lot of spectators to see my defeat.

Servants stood at the edges pretending not to watch. Several junior clan members whispered to each other.

Too noisy. I thought to myself.

And leaning lazily against one of the wooden pillars, sipping sake like this was a festival event, stood Naobito Zenin. His eyes flicked toward me. Then his grin widened.

"Well now."

He raised his cup slightly.

"Things just got interesting. Let's see how the next heir of Zenin is compared to his brothers."

Across the stone courtyard, Ogi stood waiting.

His stance was relaxed, oozing with confidence. It felt he was here just to teach the arrogant junior a lesson on humility.

The stance of a man who believed this would be over in seconds.

Which honestly was fair.

From his perspective, I was still just a brat who had gotten lucky against one curse. In fact, I wasn't sure that I could defeat him; truth of the matter, I just wanted to give him some hardcore beating even if I didn't win the duel.

Politically, if I lose this match, my reputation as the heir would suffer loss among the people, and that's why Ogi gathered as many spectators as possible. But for me, that didn't matter; in my list of goals in this life, becoming leader of Zenin was not even at the bottom of the barrel for me. That responsibility is something I will hand over to Maki or Mai.

So if I beat up Ogi for what he did to Maki and Mai, I will end in defeat. It's still my victory overall.

My intelligence is almost frightening to me.

I walked into the center of the courtyard with empty hands.

Ogi glanced down at me.

"You planning to fight me with empty hands?" he asked dryly as he tapped his standard katana.

"Yah."

I nodded at him. I stretched my hands and feet for some flexibility. I can't have cramps in the middle of a beatdown; that would be embarrassing.

Murmurs rippled through the watching clan members.

Ogi rolled his shoulders slightly.

"So." His cursed energy began to rise. "Any last words before you embarrass yourself?"

I looked up at the sky briefly.

The sun was still high. Good. Great day to test teleskins combined with Vow. And even greater day for beating the tooth out of this dick for brain.

I looked back at him.

"Yeah."

I inhaled slowly, let the show start with 'Boom' then I whispered quietly to myself.

"Activate."

Just as Naoya invoked his blinding vows, Ogi immediately felt a sudden pressure that started oppressing him. Which immediately shows the difference in their strength.

What kind of Blinding Vow did this brat achieve to save those wastes?

Ogi knows the stronger the Blinding Vow effect, the stronger the penalty is. A binding vow can be made by anyone with cursed energy and become strong, but the penalty would also be that much more brutal with how much Blinding Vow is given to us. In theory, multiple binding vows can indeed make someone the strongest, but if a penalty is imposed on the individual stating that he can't block any attack of any kind and each attack of any kind will give 10x damage, then can he be called the strongest? No, he can be killed with even an ordinary blade. And this is the tip of the iceberg.

But that brat in front of Ogi clearly awoke some powerful vow to fight against the Grade 1 curse.

What is his penalty anyway? Ogi thought himself. It doesn't matter; I just need to cut him down.

Just as Ogi sprints forward, Naoya murmurs something.

"Telekinesis," Ogi noticed as Naoya's cursed energy moved to different parts of the building in the form of threads.

The next thing he remembered was a pillar coming crashing down from behind.

"What the..." Ogi couldn't even finish the sentence.

I looked at Ogi, who was lying down with blood dripping from his mouth.

"Ogi, are you okay?" I called him, but there was no response. My vow also deactivated, meaning I won this match.

Wasn't he a grade 1 sorcerer? Why can't he avoid the pillar? Like you can see with your eyes. Is it only me? I thought it was going to be one of the hardest fights for me.

Clap*Clap*

"Well done, my son. Your curse energy manipulation is definitely on par with the experts'. Servant, take Ogi to the medical facility." Then Naobita looked at the specter. "With this, as you all see, Naoya Zenin is indeed deserving of his position as the next head of the Zenin clan. Jinichi, you have no complaints, right?"

"Nothing at all, Clan Head." Then Jinichi looked at me. "He is defiantly on par with the prodigy of the Gojo family."

Is he taking about Gojo? Did this old bastard hit his head or something? It's like comparing a dying ant to a nuke.

Just because I defeated Ogi by sheer luck doesn't mean I was even remotely close to the face of JJK. That infinity technique is a broke-ass price cheat.
