I stared at him, and then at the button he just pressed in a daze. He actually did it. He allowed me to visit my daughter, to make sure that she was fine and give her the elephant doll that I worked on as a source of strength.
Of course, I knew that Ray didn't do this for free. Perhaps what happened yesterday was like a slap in the face for him, or perhaps he really tried to fulfill his part of the contract.
Ding!
As the elevator door slid open, Ray pushed the wheelchair through the long corridor.
I thought Aurora would be guarded by another officer like Officer Clint.
But no, it was a tall and well-built female officer instead. Her hair was tied up in a bun, and she looked even more menacing than the previous officers.
She bowed slightly upon seeing us, which I guessed was her paying respect to Dr. Ray Gatlin.
Then, she looked at me and smiled, melting all the menacing and intimidating first impressions that I had about her.
