"Even if it might kill you or cause you to be jailed for life?"
"Yes," I confirmed without hesitation. My belief was unwavering. "If my life can be traded with Aurora's, then I'd do it in a heartbeat. As long as she is healthy, safe, and happy, then I don't mind anything else."
Ray was staring at me in silence, then shifted his gaze back to Aurora.
"Mother's love across species is a unique phenomenon, don't you think? They have such a tight bond with their offspring that they don't mind sacrificing their own lives for the sake of saving their offspring," Ray muttered. "Many fathers also love their offspring, but their love might wane as the child grows up, while a mother will stay a mother even after their offspring can make another offspring."
Ray's assessment was correct. Though, in my case, my mother's love for me waned once my father chose to be with his mistress, causing her to hate everything and everyone, including her own daughter on her deathbed.
