And I didn't blame him for it. After all, Ray had witnessed how crazy Clarissa could be, and how complicated the mess I had with them was.
On top of that, the police officers seemed to always be on their side. Even with Ray's position in the police department, he wouldn't be able to fight off the scrutiny in people's eyes.
As much as I wanted his protection and care for Aurora, I still had enough conscience not to drag him even further.
However, Ray remained silent even after we exited the elevator and crossed the large basement parking lot to his car. He helped me into the passenger seat, then folded the wheelchair and placed it in the trunk before getting into the driver's seat.
He started the engine, but seemed to be in a daze for some reason.
I was unable to hold my curiosity any longer. I rarely saw him staying silent like this rather than insulting or yelling at me.
