Chapter 2 - ) Where Hate Meets

JAY'S POV:

The rain was heavy that night.

I stood outside the polic building, watching the water fall on the calm yet dark street. The city looked quiet, but I knew it wasn't. This city never slept. It only waits for misery.

Three days.

Three days since my sister died.

Keira.

Even thinking her name felt strange now, like saying it would break something inside me.

Everyone kept saying the same thing.

"We are investigating."

"We will find the killer."

But I didn't believe them.

Because I already know who did it.

I pushed open the door and walked inside the building. The hallway lights were cold and bright. People were talking, papers moving, phones ringing.

Normal life.

Like nothing happened.

My jaw tightened.

My sister was gone, and the world kept moving like it didn't matter.

I walked straight in to the investigation board. Pictures of the crime scene were pinned on it. The red strings connecting to different clues.

In the middle was Keira's photo.

I stared at it.

Her smile looked so normal. Too normal for someone who was now dead. Then my eyes moved to another photo.

A man.

Tall. Calm. Sharp eyes. And annoyingly handsome.

Keifer.

Detective Keifer. Just like me, a detective?!

The last person who saw my sister alive.

My hands slowly curled into fists. Everyone said there wasn't enough proof. But I knew. I could feel it.

Something about him was wrong.

Something about him was always wrong.

I heard footsteps behind me. I didn't turn around.

"Still staring at the board?", a voice said.

I knew that voice. Calm. Teasing. Annoyingly confident.

I slowly turned.

Keifer stood a few steps away. Hands in his pockets like he had nothing to worry about.

Like my sister's case was just another case.

Yeah right.

My chest burned in anger.

"You shouldn't be here," I said glaring.

He tilted his head slightly, studying me.

"And yet, you are here too," he replied.

His voice was smooth. Too smooth.

I hated it.

"I work this case, my sister's death!" I said sharply.

"So do I."

My eyes narrowed.

Oh yeah? And try to make yourself inoocent? Let's see, Keifer, I will expose you! I thought.

"You shouldn't," I said quietly.

"Why?" he asked.

I took a step closer to him.

"Beacuse you are the last person who saw my sister before her death."

For a second, the room felt very quiet.

Keifer looked at me very carefully.

Then he gave a small teasing smile, almost like a smirk. That made my blood boil.

"If you are trying to scare me," he said calmly, "you'll have to do better than that."

My first tightened. Asshole.

"I am not trying to scare you!" I said with a glare,

"I am trying to prove that you killed her."

For the first time, something flickered in his eyes.

Not fear.

Something else.

But it disappeared quickly.

He stepped closer. Too close.

"You really think I did it?" he asked softly.

I looked straight into his eyes.

"Yes."

Then he sighed slightly.

"Interesting," he said.

My eyebrows forrowed.

"What is?" I asked.

He looked down at me with that same irritating teasing expression.

"The fact that you hate me this much," he replied. A small teasing smirk appeared. Asshole.

"I know enough," I said coldly.

He chuckled quietly.

"Careful, Jay," he said.

My name in his name felt strange. Yet, my heart beat fast for some reason.

No Jay, don't you dare like this murderer!

He was enjoying my reaction, while smirking.

"You might start sounding obssessed."

My anger snapped instantly.

"Obssessed?!" I snapped. "My sister is dead, asshole!"

The room went silent again.

Keifer didn't laugh this time.

For a moment, he just looked at me.

Then he said quietly,

"Yeah."

"I know."

Something in his tone felt different.

But I pushed the thought away immediately.

I turned back to the board.

I didn't want to look at him anymore.

But I could still feel his eyes on me.

Watching.

Thinking.

Finally he spoke again.

"You're going to keep blaming me," he said calmly.

"Yes."

"And you're going to follow me around trying to prove it?"

"If I have to."

A pause.

Then I heard him laugh behind me.

"Alright," he said.

I slowly turned again.

He looked completely relaxed.

Like this whole situation was amusing to him.

"Go ahead," he said.

"Follow me."

His eyes met mine.

"But don't be surprised if you learn something you weren't expecting."

Then he walked past me.

Like nothing had happened.

Like he wasn't the man I wanted to destroy.

I watched him leave the room.

My heart was beating harder now.

One thought repeated in my mind.

I will prove it.

No matter what it takes.

Because if Keifer really killed my sister…

I will be the one to end him.🔪
