[Start of the chapter]
The so-called arrogance of a prophet could also be described as a common trait shared by transmigrators who know the plot well. The stronger their cheat, the more obvious it tends to be.
The people of Natlan felt that Lynn had already done far too much for them. To them, protecting Lynn was only natural, and even dying for that purpose would be a worthy death. After all, even without Lynn, they would still have had to fight the Abyss anyway, and with supplies scarce, the casualty rate would only have been even higher.
Lynn, however, had a completely different way of looking at it—
On the world line where I never came to help you, you all might still live to see the war won. But now that I have come to help, you might die protecting me instead. If that's the case, then damn it, I'd have been better off not coming at all.
And so, unable to out-stubborn him, Lynn's Natlan friends had no choice but to grant his wish. Those with the right skills helped prepare all sorts of ingenious tools for him. The earlier Phlogiston bomb, for example, had been made by Xilonen.
After that, his friends escorted him and Escoffier to Natlan's border. Someone had suggested arranging a few elite fighters, reporting it to the Wayob first, and then accompanying them all the way to their destination, but Lynn and Escoffier refused.
Then came the rest: the two of them reached the Port, missed the passenger ship, and instead ran into this smuggling Cargo Ship...
———
Back in the present.
This was also why Lynn had no intention of returning to Natlan right now.
There was no point.
Even if he ignored every problem that already existed or might exist, and everything developed in the most ideal direction possible—letting Mavuika, a human rather than a god or Dragon King, obtain the share of Pyro Authority in his possession, then extract the other half from the divine throne and successfully combine them inside herself, becoming a "complete god" on par with a fully realized dragon—
It was still only a theory whether a single complete dragon or a higher-ranking ruler was stronger. There was no hard proof yet. People merely tended to believe the two were roughly on the same level.
Could Mavuika defeat Gosoythoth on her own?
Maybe.
But it would not be certain. There would still be suspense.
And don't start talking about how adding Ronova's power would make it a sure thing. Leaving aside the fact that this was only the most ideal speculation, even if Ronova really did open a back door for them, or the Six Heroes awakened at lightning speed, where would they find Capitano afterward to exploit the loophole and take the place of the doomed fate brought on by using the power of the Ruler of Death?
At least the original ending could still be called a grand happy ending. If things turned out even worse after he got involved, then wouldn't his transmigration have been for nothing?
So it was better to play it safe for now. In any case, his cheat had now fully activated. He could spend some time developing, wear the Abyss down bit by bit, keep the situation stable over the next few years, and then, once he had more trump cards—or once the Traveler arrived—finish everything in one sweep and secure an even more perfect happy ending...
That was Lynn's plan.
"By the way, Lynn, earlier I heard you mention some kind of bad-luck constitution... Is that really true?"
On the other side, once her excitement settled a little, Escoffier recalled what Lynn had said before.
Although he had already explained it just now, she still did not quite understand—
Mainly because he had made it sound so severe, as though he would run into misfortune wherever he went. But when Escoffier thought back carefully, she had not really noticed anything unusual during those months in Natlan.
The only incidents had come after they left Natlan, yet even then nothing had happened on the road. It was only after boarding this ship...
"It's true. It's just that the Masters of the Night-Wind helped arrange a ritual for me. It was quite complicated, but the results were pretty good. It temporarily blocked out most of my bad luck."
Lynn explained.
When he had first arrived in Natlan, misfortune still clung to him from time to time. Although the World Seed's power would always respond to each problem as it arose, preventing that bad luck from truly landing on him, some people still noticed that something was off.
By that point, however, he had already started to stand out and attract attention, so a priest from the Masters of the Night-Wind took the initiative to come help him try to solve the issue.
At first, it had no effect, and Lynn felt that was only normal. He simply did not want to reject their goodwill. But the other side refused to give up and started calling in more people.
And so, one level after another, they kept bringing in help—from human priests to non-human figures, such as that great elder of the Iktomisaurs, then some other individuals from different tribes who specialized in the mystic arts. In the end, they even brought in Citlali and Mavuika...
But in the end, they really did manage to make something of it. According to the explanations Citlali and Mavuika gave him as the one directly involved, they used a ritual to draw down a projection of the Night Kingdom, used the Wayob as a foundation, and with the help of the Pyro Archon's power, pried loose the power of the Night Kingdom and placed a kind of screen over Lynn.
At the time, the ritual truly had worked. The intensity of his bad luck and the frequency with which it descended had both decreased. Although it could not free the World Seed's power entirely, the combined effect still allowed Lynn to enjoy more than half a year of normal life.
However...
'No, that's not right.'
Lynn suddenly noticed something strange.
At first he had thought nothing of it, but just now he had seen Teyvat's planetary will completely block out that repulsive force for him.
Given the size and level of a planetary will, even doing that had cost it a great deal. Already in poor condition to begin with, Teyvat had no choice but to fall into slumber.
Of course, by then the world had already been born, and the intensity of that repulsive force had surged dramatically...
But back then in Natlan, it had still taken only a group of priests and a ruling god, borrowing the Ley Line energy of an entire nation, to accomplish something similar.
And the most interesting part was that afterward, although they all appeared heavily drained, it had only been to the point where some rest was enough for them to recover.
Was that really normal?
