Chapter 10 - Aftermath Of Calamity

When Lan Qingyun awoke, the world felt wrong not darker but Sharper.

He lay on cold stone, the cavern ceiling above him fractured, long cracks spidering outward where the red orb once pulsed. The mummified corpses lining the chamber walls had collapsed into brittle husks, their drained remains crumbling slowly into gray dust. The oppressive crimson glow was gone, leaving only faint mineral light behind.

For several breaths, he did not move. He listened carefully. There were no tentacles, no heartbeat-like pulse, no ancient presence whispering at the edge of his consciousness. Only silence remained.

He exhaled slowly and pushed himself upright.

His body felt heavy, not from weakness, but from density. He extended his spiritual sense cautiously. It flowed outward smoothly, farther, sharper, clearer than before. He focused on a distant crack in the cavern wall. The smallest mineral vein shimmered faintly within it, something he would not have perceived clearly before.

His Golden Core rotated, it felt different. Larger, more stable.

He closed his eyes and turned his awareness inward, there it was High Golden Core.

The realization did not bring excitement, only stillness.

The breakthrough had not been clean. It had not been achieved through gradual comprehension, but forced by catastrophic energy redistribution. He rotated the core carefully. There was no instability, no cracks, yet it felt recently forged, like steel still warm from hammering.

He tested circulation through his meridians. They were thicker and more resilient, and his spiritual sea had expanded significantly. Yet, along its edge, faint scorch marks remained, the price of survival.

He lowered his gaze. The Seven-Colored Spirit Essence was gone. The majority of Golden Core beast cores were gone as well.

He checked his storage ring Only two Low Golden Core cores remained.

Everything else had been consumed in the override. He nodded once, Fair exchange after all he was Alive and Stronger. But not enriched.

The variant Shadow Bat egg remained intact. He withdrew it briefly. Its surface pulsed faintly as it reacted to the residual spiritual fluctuations within him. He studied it in silence.

Nascent Soul potential a long-term asset. He stored it again.

The cavern trembled faintly. Without the red orb stabilizing its grotesque network of energy, the underground structure was failing. He extended his senses upward. The path he had fallen through was unstable, stone collapsing intermittently as dust filtered down.

He did not rush. Instead, he stepped toward a narrow fissure along the far wall. During the fall, he had noticed it briefly, a natural vertical shaft. Now, with enhanced perception, he sensed faint airflow from above.

A secondary exit. He pressed his palm against the stone. Condensed sword intent formed silently. He carved with precision, removing only what was necessary. After several minutes, the fissure widened enough to allow passage.

He ascended slowly, using protruding mineral veins as footholds.

Behind him, a low rumble echoed as the chamber where the monarch had hidden for centuries began collapsing inward, sealing its own grave. By the time he emerged into a higher tunnel, the lower cavern had caved in completely.

No evidence remained some knowledge was better buried.

He followed the airflow upward as the tunnel curved gradually toward faint daylight.

Then he felt it the Steel-Taloned Sky Hawk.

It was still there, waiting. Its aura brushed against his senses, sharp and metallic.

This time, however, the difference was immediate Before, the hawk's presence had felt overwhelming.

Now it felt comparable neither inferior nor superior.

He stepped out onto a narrow cliff opening halfway up the valley wall. The sky above was pale gray, clouds drifting slowly. The hawk circled lazily before stiffening as it sensed him. Its wings tilted sharply as it descended, talons glinting with killing intent.

Lan Qingyun did not retreat. he stepped fully onto the ledge and released his aura.

High Golden Core pressure surged outward like a rising tide. The air vibrated.

The hawk faltered mid-descent, wings beating harder to stabilize. It had expected wounded prey. It found something else.

He did not activate a Combat Card there was no need for it.

The hawk shrieked and attacked regardless, talons slicing downward with terrifying precision.

Lan Qingyun stepped forward instead of back.

His sword intent condensed without flourish, pure and controlled.

He struck once. The clash echoed across the valley with a metallic screech as feathers scattered. The hawk recoiled mid-air, a thin line of blood tracing across one talon.

Lan Qingyun did not pursue, he stood still, aura steady and unyielding.

The hawk circled once, then twice, assessing.

It understood. The prey had changed, the predator no longer held advantage.

After a long moment, it released a final piercing cry and ascended higher, then higher still, before turning and disappearing beyond distant ridges.

Lan Qingyun watched until its aura faded he didn't chase there was no need he survived that was more than enough.

He looked down into the valley below. The entrance to the mineral cavern was partially collapsed, making access more difficult, but not impossible.

That was good Others would not stumble upon it easily.

He descended toward the valley floor and harvested the Graniteback Warbear's hide and remaining usable materials. The mineral veins still pulsed faintly. Long-term exploitation was possible, but not now.

He had been gone too long Four days since leaving Azure Wind.

Seven days was the puppet's limit.

He still had margin Barely he leapt into the air.

High Golden Core flight was smoother, less strain, energy circulation more efficient. He angled toward Azure Wind Mountain without hesitation.

The journey back felt different. He did not conceal his aura aggressively, nor did he broadcast it fully. A measured release deterred minor beasts without provoking attention from distant sect scouts.

As he approached the western ridge, he confirmed the auxiliary node remained stable. Sixty-two percent output sustained. No interference detected.

Crimson Cloud patrols remained at distance Good.

Azure Wind Mountain appeared on the horizon. From afar, it looked alive. Construction activity was visible. Formation lines glimmered faintly. Disciples moved in organized patterns.

He sensed the puppet immediately, standing on the terrace with Mid Golden Core aura, imitating him perfectly.

Seven days had nearly elapsed he approached unseen.

The puppet turned toward him as he entered formation range. Their eyes met briefly. Fine fractures spread across the puppet's carved body. It bowed once before collapsing into dust.

Lan Qingyun stood alone once more.

He suppressed his aura back to Mid Golden Core level before walking calmly toward the inner courtyard.

Disciples spotted him first. "Sect Master!" Relief washed across their faces.

He inclined his head slightly. "Report."

There was no dramatic reunion. Only governance.

Senior Disciple Yuan stepped forward.

"Outer structures reinforced. Herb gardens reorganized. Formation stability improved slightly."

He nodded once. "I will see Master."

As he walked through familiar corridors, he felt different within them. He had glimpsed a failed Transformation cultivator's memory and felt the scale of heavenly tribulation. Azure Wind Region was small. Crimson Cloud was small.

Even Golden Core was small. A vaster world existed, where sects rose and vanished like dust.

His hand tightened slightly behind his back.

Top Five was no longer enough. For now, stabilize. Consolidate. Prepare.

When he entered Elder Wei's chamber, the old master's eyes opened slowly. " I was worried you brat."

Elder Wei studied him carefully. "You feel… different."

Lan Qingyun's expression remained composed. "Some matters were resolved."

The old master coughed faintly. "Good."

Lan Qingyun stepped closer. "I have something that may help you."

For the first time since the cave, he allowed a fraction of his true aura to surface. Just enough.

Elder Wei's eyes widened High Golden Core.

No words were needed the mountain had changed.

And so had its master.
