Chapter 33 - 33 The Kraken

"Silas!"

Reiji screamed and ran towards Silas before abruptly stopping after just two steps when Silas started chanting.

"Waves of terror, rain of sadness, oh great force of hope and madness.

You are as vast as the human soul.

‎The power you possess, lend it to me all."

The waves calmed down, the rain froze midair and the clouds stopped moving. Reiji looked around, taking in the rain drops that just waited in the air.

All of them suddenly rushed towards Silas who pulled his cutlass. The water started spinning around the blade and tendrils made of water rose up from the surface of the ocean.

Silas pointed his blade at a tentacle that wrapped itself around the largest mast and the water focused around the part of it that was near the base of the mast.

It started to spin around the tentacle for a moment before shrinking its diameter and cutting into the tentacle like a saw. The monster was not happy about this and the tentacle started pulling back but Silas didn't stop attacking that one spot.

Is it even cutting through it?!

Silas thought to himself before the whole ship got rocked and tentacles started grabbing men off of the deck and destroying the ship.

Reiji then remembered what happened with the Tenebrovermis. When he ate it he grew stronger. Could this have the same effect?

He surged forward, slipping down the stairs in a controlled manner, landing on his feet and picking up his pace on the main deck. He had to cut the tentacle off before it could move back into the water.

Reiji avoided the squirming, erratic tentacles and screaming crew members. He then slipped and slid across the deck, smashing into the railing. The ship was now making sounds it shouldn't be making because the monster was tearing it apart.

Just before the part of the tentacle that was being cut by Thorne's water made it past the deck's railing, Reiji pulled out his katana and took off again, almost close enough to finish the job.

Silas noticed this and dispersed the water, because it would snap Reiji's blade in half if it would come in contact. Instead, he conjured more water. Water tendrils rose and wrapped around the tentacles, holding them in place the best they could.

Reiji quickly slashed the thin, bleeding part of the tentacle, severing off a very long piece of it. A part of it was still hanging on the mast so Silas took it off and placed it on the deck in a controlled manner using his water. Reiji noticed that the tentacle's diameter was his height.

Silas commanded his tendrils to try and drill through the tentacles but when they immediately failed a look of realization crossed his face.

This creature must be the Kraken and it shows a frustrating resistance to water magic.

So instead, the tendrils dispersed and the tentacles got covered by a layer of water that made it harder for them to move. All of this has enraged the monster, causing its tentacles to burst into the ship's hull and out of the main deck.

This is too much. I have to let the water come to me naturally.

Silas thought, then the rain picked up once again as the clouds started moving. The waves went from tamed to wilder than ever. Instead of forcing control over the water he used the water that was pooling on and in his ship.

That water was still and calm, taking a lot less energy to control than the untamable waves of the ocean.

As all of this was happening, Reiji cut off pieces of the tentacle and ate them. As the rain came in full force the tentacles moved through and around the ship with little resistance.

They grabbed men off the the decks and dragged them into the water. Some started praying, there was one man that slit his throat out of fear of drowning.

Reiji felt a weird sensation, like the water was being sucked from his wet clothes and noticed the water on the deck moved towards the tentacles, the water layer covering them thickening, making their movements slow down.

Reiji then snapped out his thoughts with a pain that was indescribable. His muscles expanded under his skin, regaining their size before he was captured. His entire body changed back into what it was before he was starved, organs shifting inside of him, heart almost stopping and his vision fading. He couldn't even scream, since his lungs had no air in them.

He then started hearing murmurs that got louder and louder. After a moment of this terrible experience he found himself on the wet deck, in slight shock from the pain. He pushed himself up and suddenly needed to vomit. He leaned over the railing, letting out the contents of his stomach into the ocean.

After doing so, he felt a terrible feeling, the same one he got when he was fighting the Frost People after eating the Tenebrovermis.

The feeling was not wrong because when he turned around and saw the man that punched his lights out earlier, the other guard that was standing in front of his cage and seemingly the man who was sitting in the corner with his tranquilizer dart.

Rain kept falling, men were dragged into the ocean, wind made the sails flutter and lighting crackled in the dark sky.

"You want to do this now?!"

Reiji asked loudly so the middle man, the man who punched him, could hear.

"If I don't do my duty I'll end up dead whether or not I survive this."

Said the man. Much to Reiji's surprise he spoke Reiji's language.

"Oh, you're not surviving this but it's not going to be this tentacle monster that's going to kill you."

Reiji said. The man, a magician himself, saw a dark cloud manifest behind Reiji. The rain drops froze midair and so did everything else, even the lighting.

His breathing picked up and he took a few steps back as the dark cloud enveloped Reiji and shortly after his two colleagues who just stood there, frozen as well. He turned in a panic and started running.

He ran a short distance before he felt an incredible pain in his chest. He looked down and saw a thin, clawed hand pierce through his chest, holding his heart. The hand then crushed it and pulled him into the dark cloud.

Reiji stood above the man as he was seemingly having a seizure. The other two guards were laying on the deck, knocked out with their bent swords laying on the ground.

"Congratulations, you won the weirdest man I met all day award."

Reiji muttered, still looking down at the man's foaming mouth before his body seized all movement. Reiji stepped on his chest and walked over him, taking off to the quarterdeck to meet with captain Silas Thorne.
