Chapter 88 - Chapter 88

What everyone saw was astonishing.

Subject No. 1's originally dense and powerful body was now exposing large sections of bone. On his arms in particular, the bullets had shattered chunks of flesh away, leaving the pale bone spurs completely exposed.

At his chest, beneath the torn-open wounds, they could even clearly see an orange glow flickering deep near the heart, accelerating the healing of his body.

And at this moment, Subject No. 1's eyes were filled with extreme rage.

But unlike before, his body was now rising and falling heavily with every breath.

Although the Tyrant Project subjects possessed regenerative abilities every bit as terrifying as the Tyrants themselves, the word regeneration implied one thing above all else: an immense rate of metabolism and cell division.

And no matter how powerful that ability was, if it was still biological, then it still had to obey the law of energy conservation.

The faster the metabolism, the faster the cell division, the more energy was required to sustain it.

Put simply, when the subject's body was constantly repairing itself after taking damage, the cells needed an enormous amount of energy to drive that process.

Without that energy, the healing rate would slow, or the regeneration might stop altogether.

And right now, because the subject had only just undergone total bodily evolution, his cells were still in a state of weakness and dormancy. The available energy supply was not enough.

On top of that, there was no additional source of energy, no fresh flesh for them to devour and replenish themselves with.

That was why Subject No. 1 still had those exposed bone spurs jutting out, with no flesh covering them yet.

And because his body's energy had weakened, he did not immediately retaliate against the people outside.

To put it simply, Subject No. 1 was so hungry he was practically about to pass out.

Subject No. 3 looked just as miserable.

Although Subject No. 1's massive body had blocked most of the incoming bullets for her, the full-angle barrage still meant she had taken more than enough rounds herself.

Her body was now lying on the floor, looking half-dead.

There was none of the madness she had shown while fighting Subject No. 1 earlier.

But once both subjects realized the attack had stopped, they immediately began quietly eating the chunks of flesh scattered across the floor, no one even knew whose they were anymore.

And as the two of them kept feeding, expressions of shock gradually spread across everyone's faces.

Because starting from that initial weakened state, bullets began getting pushed out of their bodies one after another as their wounds visibly healed. Crisp metallic clinks rang out nonstop as the rounds dropped onto the floor.

Then, in less than a minute, Subject No. 1 slowly stood back up.

And by the time he was fully upright again, every wound that had covered his body before had already healed completely.

The only traces left of what had just happened were the dense scatter of bullets and blood staining the floor.

Subject No. 3 also rose to her feet shortly after Subject No. 1 did.

But at this moment, after exchanging only a single glance, neither of them showed any urge to keep fighting.

That previous barrage had already carved itself deep into their instincts.

That was the defining trait of intelligent life.

As long as you left them with a memory that was deep enough, painful enough, unforgettable enough, then they would remember you, fear you, and eventually be fully tamed into true biological weapons.

Of course, doing so would greatly reduce their terrifying wildness.

But even then, as long as their normal-state strength remained intact, and they retained their intelligence, that alone was already enough to let humans make them do a great many things.

After that, Samuel began conducting separate capability tests for the three different subjects.

The results were obvious.

And perfectly lived up to everyone's expectations.

Subject No. 2, in particular, after only brief instruction, was already able to skillfully use all kinds of cold weapons and even bows and crossbows.

And unlike Subjects No. 1 and No. 3, Subject No. 2 did not fly into a frenzy the moment he saw a person.

The feeling he gave everyone was more like a refined scholar suddenly appearing in a pack of monkeys.

He was enthusiastic about learning.

And he enjoyed thinking.

In fact, once he understood a simple task, he even seemed to show obvious satisfaction.

That alone left all the researchers present extremely excited.

The only regret was that fighting had suddenly broken out in another war zone, and the Tyrants under Ross's command, as the military's increasingly impressive special force unit, had been noticed by the top brass. They decided to move Ross out overnight and send the Tyrants there immediately to deal with several especially troublesome problems.

Because of that, before Killian could even exchange many farewell words, Ross had already departed under escort and with a designated base guide leading the way.

As for Ross's departure, Killian did not really mind.

To him, Subject No. 2 was far more interesting.

And now, suddenly intrigued, Killian walked up to Subject No. 2's containment chamber and, through the glass, used 3D projection technology to vividly demonstrate how a person held a pen and how they used it to write and draw on paper.

After watching Killian's movements, Subject No. 2 lowered his gaze toward the paper and pen that had been placed in front of him.

Then, after thinking for a long while, the scene that followed left everyone present in complete shock.

The paper and pen, which had been lying still on the floor, suddenly rose up into the air in full view of everyone.

Before anyone could even finish being surprised, the pen had already begun writing on the prepared sheet of draft paper.

The handwriting was crooked and ugly to the point of being unbearable to look at.

But that was not the point.

What mattered was that the subject might have just used actual telekinesis.

"This... this is telekinesis?"

"A superpower?! No way."

For a moment, after witnessing Subject No. 2's ability, the researchers around them could not help murmuring in disbelief.

For ordinary people, if immortality was one of mankind's eternal dreams, then superpowers were definitely something everyone longed for just as much.

Because superpowers meant limitless possibilities.

But compared with them, Killian, standing there as the central figure, was the one whose pupils visibly contracted the moment he saw it.
