Chapter 18 - He Was Never Meant to Survive

The royal fortune teller of King Valerius had once spoken a terrifying prophecy—

one day, someone from the Wilson bloodline would rise and bring about the king's downfall.

From the moment those words reached Valerius, fear began to consume him.

He was furious.

Terrified.

Obsessed.

And so, he turned to the strongest sorcerer under his command from the Outer World—a man feared even among dark mages.

That sorcerer became the reason Alfred and his wife died.

On that cold night, after killing them, he placed their bodies inside a carriage and used magic to overturn it on a deserted road, making it appear as nothing more than a tragic accident.

And just like that…

Louis became an orphan.

Back in the present, Director Daniel stood in silence for a moment before speaking in a heavy voice.

"We must protect Louis until he becomes strong enough. He is our only hope."

However, there was one thing no one truly understood.

The royal fortune teller could only sense danger and glimpse fragments of the future. She could not identify exactly who possessed the overwhelming power capable of killing the king.

The Wilson family was not small.

There was Alfred and his sister, Mary.

Alfred had one son—Louis.

Mary had two sons of her own.

Any one of them could have been the one from the prophecy.

Mary.

Her children.

Or Louis himself.

Yet the king's demon had always suspected Alfred the most.

Why?

Because within the Wilson bloodline, magical power only awakens after the age of sixteen.

Before that, no one could tell who truly carried the terrifying potential mentioned in the prophecy.

Everyone simply believed Alfred's strength came from relentless training and natural talent.

That was why he became the primary target.

Later, the sorcerer responsible for Alfred and his wife's deaths was arrested after the Magic Organization uncovered the truth.

Still, they chose to conceal the incident from the public to prevent widespread panic.

Soon after, the organization secretly sent a mysterious man to Louis, his aunt Mary, and her children.

Without much explanation, the man handed each of them a magical necklace capable of suppressing and concealing their powers.

Before leaving, he gave them a single warning.

"Never remove the necklace."

Then he vanished.

Because of those necklaces, the fortune teller could no longer sense any dangerous power around the king.

In the end, everyone became convinced that Alfred had been the one destined to threaten Valerius.

And so, the matter was buried.

Back at the academy, Louis was still overwhelmed after learning the truth.

Charlotte suddenly spoke, his voice sharp with urgency.

"Do you really think we can fight a monster like that?"

Without hesitation, Louis clenched his fist tightly, determination igniting in his eyes.

"Of course we can! But from today onward, we have to become much stronger!"

His energy was contagious.

Charlotte grinned confidently.

"That's what I like to hear."

Louis slowly smiled as determination filled his chest once more.

"You're right."

The two of them immediately headed toward the training grounds, completely fired up.

Meanwhile, Lily ran to her friends to tell them everything that had happened.

The moment they heard the story, they pulled her into comforting hugs.

Lucy, however, reacted differently.

The second she heard what had happened to Louis, she rushed straight to his room, worried sick about him.

But he wasn't there.

So she hurried toward the training grounds instead.

From a distance, she saw Louis and Charlotte training intensely, both filled with determination and energy.

Lucy quietly stopped walking.

Relief softened her expression.

I'm glad…

He's going to be okay.

Without letting them notice her presence, she quietly turned around and walked away.
