Chapter 3 - The Alpha Who Watches

Lia quickly learned one thing about the werewolf pack.

They were loud.

They argued, laughed, fought, and trained like warriors who had spent their entire lives on the battlefield.

But the Alpha…

The Alpha was silent.

Kael rarely spoke unless necessary.

Yet everyone watched him.

Respected him.

Feared him.

And Lia quickly realized something even worse.

He was always watching her.

Three days had passed since the pack brought her to their territory.

She stayed inside a small wooden cabin near the center of the camp. It wasn't luxurious, but it was warm and safe.

Too safe.

Because every time she stepped outside…

Kael was somewhere nearby.

Standing beside the training field.

Leaning against a tree.

Watching the wolves spar.

But his golden eyes always drifted back to her.

Every.

Single.

Time.

"Alpha is staring again."

Lia almost dropped the bowl she was holding.

She turned toward the speaker.

A young wolf with messy brown hair grinned at her.

His name was Rowan.

One of the friendlier members of the pack.

"What?" she asked nervously.

Rowan chuckled.

"You didn't notice?"

Lia slowly looked across the clearing.

Kael stood near the edge of the training ground with his arms crossed.

He looked terrifying even while standing still.

Two wolves were sparring in front of him, claws slashing through the air.

But Kael wasn't watching them.

He was watching her.

The moment their eyes met

His gaze sharpened.

Like a predator that had just spotted movement.

Lia quickly looked away.

Her heart pounded violently.

Rowan laughed softly.

"You must be special."

"I'm not."

"Then why does the Alpha look like he wants to eat you?"

Lia nearly choked.

"WHAT?"

Rowan burst into laughter.

"I'm joking. Relax."

But he lowered his voice slightly.

"…Still. I've never seen him look at someone like that."

Across the clearing, Kael watched the girl walk away with Rowan.

His wolf growled inside his chest.

Low.

Dangerous.

Possessive.

Mine.

Kael clenched his jaw.

This was ridiculous.

She was human.

His wolf never reacted this way to humans.

Yet something about her presence made his instincts restless.

Unstable.

He hated not understanding something.

And right now…

He understood nothing about Lia.

That night, the forest became quiet.

Too quiet.

Lia stepped outside the cabin slowly.

Moonlight covered the trees in pale silver light.

She looked around carefully.

Most of the wolves were asleep.

Good.

She walked toward the edge of the forest.

Her heart beating faster with every step.

Then finally

She whispered softly.

"…Bloom."

A faint glow appeared around her hands.

Tiny sparks of golden light floated through the air.

Fairy magic.

The trees responded immediately.

Leaves rustled gently.

Broken branches slowly straightened.

Grass began to grow where the ground had been trampled during battles.

Lia closed her eyes.

This territory had been damaged by constant fighting.

Werewolves lived violently.

The forest around them suffered.

So every night…

She secretly healed it.

Just a little.

Just enough that no one would notice.

But tonight

Someone did.

A deep voice spoke from behind her.

"…What are you doing?"

Her entire body froze.

Slowly.

Very slowly.

She turned around.

Kael stood in the shadows between two trees.

His golden eyes glowed faintly in the darkness.

He had seen everything.

Her mind raced.

Think.

Think.

"Just… walking," she said weakly.

Kael stepped closer.

Moonlight revealed his expression.

Suspicious.

Curious.

Dangerous.

"…The grass was dead earlier."

Lia forced a confused look.

"I don't know anything about plants."

Kael looked down at the glowing grass.

Then back at her.

The silence stretched painfully long.

Then suddenly

A distant howl shattered the night.

Not a normal wolf howl.

A warning.

One of the sentries.

Kael's head snapped toward the sound instantly.

"Stay inside," he ordered.

Before she could respond

He disappeared into the forest.

Moments later the entire pack erupted into chaos.

Wolves rushed through the clearing.

Weapons drawn.

Claws extended.

Rowan ran past Lia.

"Hunters!"

Her heart dropped.

But these weren't normal hunters.

She could feel their presence.

Cold.

Sharp.

Magical.

Then suddenly

A scream echoed through the trees.

Followed by the sound of violent fighting.

Claws tearing flesh.

Steel cutting bone.

Lia ran toward the forest instinctively.

The moment she reached the battlefield—

She saw them.

Six figures in silver armor.

Symbols carved into their weapons.

Moon-shaped blades glowing faintly.

Her blood turned cold.

Fairy hunters.

They had found her.

And they were willing to slaughter an entire werewolf pack to get her back.

In the center of the battlefield

Kael stood surrounded by bodies.

Blood covered his arms.

His eyes glowed brighter than the moon itself.

He looked less like a man…

And more like a monster.

One of the hunters lunged toward him with a silver spear.

Kael caught the weapon with his bare hand.

The silver burned his skin.

But he didn't release it.

Instead

He snapped the spear in half.

Then tore the hunter's throat open.

The battlefield went silent for a moment.

The remaining hunters stepped back slightly.

They had expected wolves.

Not a demon like this.

But one of them suddenly spoke.

"…She's here."

The hunter's gaze shifted toward the trees.

Toward Lia.

Kael followed his gaze.

And for the first time since the battle started

True rage exploded across his face.

His voice dropped into something primal.

Terrifying.

"…Don't."

The hunter smiled coldly.

"So the Alpha already cares about the girl."

Then he raised his blade.

Pointing directly at Lia.

"She belongs to the Fairy Court."

Lia's heart stopped.

Kael's eyes slowly widened.

Fairy.

The word echoed inside his mind.

Memories flashed suddenly.

Snow.

Tiny wings.

Silver light.

A small voice calling his name.

His wolf roared violently inside his chest.

And Kael finally understood something terrifying.

The girl standing behind him…

The girl he couldn't stop watching…

The girl his wolf wanted to claim

Was the same fragile fairy he had once protected.

And now

The Fairy Court had come to take her back.
