Chapter 18 - Chapter 18: A thoughtful friend

For two weeks now, Nayeon has been taking care of Mrs Han and supporting her financially. Of course, it mostly made her think about the things she could have used the money she was supporting Mr Han with to buy. But that was Vivian and Nayeon's agreement.

Sometimes she would think to herself in the middle of the night, "Why did I even agree to this deal? I barely even know Vivian yet I agreed to such a proposal. Sure, I've know Mrs Han since I was a kid, but she isn't my responsibility. I already have Minju and Ariyana on my shoulders."

During those two weeks, Nayeon felt a lot of pressure on her. She felt pressure from her home, from work, from outside, she felt pressure socially and financially.

Heeseung was alway there for her whenever she needed him though. So she told him how she had been feeling over the weeks on their lunch break at work.

"Well... it's not easy to be an adult, is it, Nayeon?" Heeseung said with laughter in his tone.

"Ugh, it really isn't. I'm twenty-four years old and I was thinking that I would live with my elder cousin forever." Nayeon replied in a drained voice.

"That's not possible. Your cousin will probably still get married and have kids at the end of the day. You couldn't keep on living with her when that happens, could you?"

"I know."

"How old did you say that your cousin was again?"

"She's thirty-two."

"She seniors me by two years then."

"That's great, okay."

Heeseung gazed upon Nayeon who was practically half asleep. She almost lost her balance if it weren't for Heeseung who woke her up.

"Oh... thanks." Nayeon said as she stood up right.

"No problem. I wish I could help you out in a way, Nayeon." Heeseung began. "What if i take care of Mrs Han for you?"

"No, no, no. Vivian and i agreed on something. I can't turn my back against it. Plus, it's my fault because of that decision I made anyways."

"Ah, I see. Let me get going then. Rest if you can."

"Thanks, Heeseung."

Heeseung left Nayeon on her own because he had to attend to some business. Nayeon sat down and convinced herself to take a short nap before lunch break was over. She remembered in that Instant how her mother back when she was a kid would force her and Minju to take a nap. Now she wants to sleep everyday and the same goes for Minju.

Just as she was about the doze off, a colleague of hers told her that Mr Dohyun called for her. Nayeon was very annoyed. She just wanted some rest. Nayeon got up and decided to go anyways because what other choice did she have.

"Gosh, why is it now when I want to sleep?" She muttered to herself.

Nayeon knocked before entering his office and found him concentrating on work as usual.

"Good morning, Mr Dohyun." She spoke tiredly.

"Good morning. Take a seat, please." He replied.

Dohyun put his work papers away and concentrated on Nayeon. She didn't even feel anything like her heart pounding this time. She was just tired and needed to rest.

"So, um... i want to ask you about Vivian. I heard you went to visit her." He asked.

"Yes, we talked about a few things." Nayeon replied in a sleepy tone.

"I see."

Silence filled the room.

"Well, um... you do seem very tired. Would you like to go for coffee tomorrow morning?" Dohyun asked.

"No thank you. I have other things to do." Nayeon sternly replied.

"I see. I'm sorry if things are hard for you. I'm always glad to help out."

Nayeon didn't bother replying him. She was as silent as a grave but her mind was as wild as a three year old. "Why is he trying to build a friendship with me again after destroying the last one with Savannah?" She thought to herself.

"Sir, I'll take my leave now. I have to get back to work." Nayeon got up and left. Dohyun was speechless and surprised aswell.

It had Dohyun thinking, "Why has she been giving me the cold shoulder lately? I know what I did but I had a reason for it..." He thought of a way to tell her but couldn't bring his mind to do it.

Nayeon who was on her way out was very stressed and annoyed that Dohyun had the audacity to ask her out tomorrow despite throwing away their short term friendship.

She unknowingly collided into someone. It was Heeseung.

"Whoa, you look really mad." He began. "May I ask what happened?"

Nayeon burst into tears after hearing Heeseung asking about her. Heeseung quickly led her to a quiet corner in the office to avoid the other colleagues from wondering.

"Its alright." Heeseung spoke as he patted her back. "You can always tell me."

"Heeseung... i don't know what's wrong with me anymore... I'm so confused..." She sniffed.

"Confused? Sounds like you need help. You've got a lot going on."

"I do."

"You need an advisor or therapist to help you out. I know someone places you can go to."

Nayeon was most delighted upon hearing Heeseung's suggestion.

"Its not a bad idea... but do I really need a therapist? I'll have to pay for it too." Nayeon asked.

"Thats not a problem. I'll pay for your therapy or advisor, so you just don't worry about that." Heeseung said promptly.

"That is so nice of you Heeseung. You're a very thoughtful friend!"

"No problem. I am more than happy to help you out, Nayeon."

Nayeon hugged him and while they were hugging, she saw Dohyun who peeped at them from afar and went back into his office quickly when she spotted him.

Nayeon finally finished her work at the end of the day and went home happily. She was so excited when she saw her bed in her bedroom that Minju thought she was crazy.

Nayeon jumped unto her bed and was repeating the same thing over and over again. "I need to sleep, I need to sleep, I need to sleep..."

Minju giggled as she leaned on Nayeon's bedroom door.

"I get you're tired Nayeon, but-" She stopped as she realised that Nayeon was fast asleep already. Minju then covered her with a blanket and closed the door on her way out.
