"It's bad out there momma. Trees down everywhere, crops ruined, roofs leaking. It's going to be a pretty big cleanup." Papa said late in the afternoon.

"Really? It's that bad? Just from one storm?" Momma asked.

She and Lillia were tending the flower beds while me and Rudy were feeding Caravagio, papa's beloved horse.

"Yeah. Even Lillia said there's a leak in her room, so I'll have to fix that too, not that I mind seeing her a little wet, it's just probably uncomfortable." Papa confirmed. Momma rolled her eyes.

"How long do you think it will take to clean everything dear?"

"Um, let me think. I don't know? Maybe a week? Maybe two? It's going to be a lot of work for just me to do, but I'm sure Roxy will want to help in some way or another since she's been doing odd jobs anyway." he said just as Roxy came around the corner with branches in tow.

"Me? Oh, yeah. I guess I could help. Actually, I will help. It will make it easier to get odd jobs if everyone knows I helped Paul clean up after the storm."

"Well there you go! It won't take nearly as long with Roxy helping." Papa chuckled.

"You know what? Let me help too. That way people don't just see me as your wall flower! After all, I used to be famous." Momma decided.

Papa stood proud, gave a grin and folded his arms. He then turned to me and Rudy.

"In that case do you and Leah want to help too, Rudy?" Papa asked.

"You mean go outside? Um… I'm not feeling up to it. The storm shook me up a little last night." Rudy said.

"You know you'll never get to see the village your papa protects if you keep making up excuses Rudy!" Zenith said, calling Rudy out.

No matter what was going on, if Rudy got an invitation to go into town he always refused. He wouldn't even step past the stone wall that skirted our yard. I was different though. I'd seen Buena village once, and I wasn't afraid to go see it again so I raised my hand as high into the air as I could. In other words, the length that it reached was only to the top of Roxy's head.

"I wanna help!" I shouted nearly jumping.

"Oh gee. I'm starting to realize just how much you two kids have grown." Papa said suddenly looking sad.

I looked at him and shrank back a little. It was a face I wasn't used to. Papa always looked confident and happy, cocky even. Sometimes he would look annoyed, and sometimes tired, but he never looked sad. Lilia looked sad often, but for papa this wasn't normal.

"Papa? What's wrong? Why are you sad?" I asked.

"Me sad? I… well I'm not really sad, I'm just a little– you know. It's kind of hard to say."

"Actually… I get what you mean. I feel the same." Momma agreed suddenly wearing a similar face.

Both of them smiled, but it was a sad smile. Suddenly I felt papa grab us both and hug us tight.

"You two? Can you do me a favor and stop growing for goodness sake? I don't know if I can handle you two growing up for real!"

"Dad! You're squeezing too hard!" Rudy groaned.

"Yeah. It hurts dad." I added.

"That's a relief." he said. What a dumb thing to say.

He let us go after a moment then ruffled both our heads. A few minutes later we were headed out into Buena Village to clean up the mess the storm left behind. Mamma paired up with papa and I paired up with Roxy. I heard Papa mention something about the other women being happy to see him and mamma suddenly got possessive. Papa is a rather good looking man, and a lot of times when he's training he'll make sure to take his shirt off so he can show off his muscles and attract as much attention as possible.

Me and Roxy passed a lot of fields, and the houses themselves were pretty spread out.

"Who tends these fields teacher?" I asked as we walked past.

 "The villagers do."

"Ah! Makes sense. I'm just curious as to what all they're growing now."

"Well most of it is Ausurian wheat, but some of it is vegetables like peppers and gourds, and some of these fields are full of special flowers that get used in perfume."

 "Perfume?"

"Yeah. It's a rather popular perfume, but you're probably too young to care about that. You wouldn't be able to afford it anyways. It's for nobles who have enough money to waste on frivolous things like that."

"Ah. So you don't like perfume then?"

"It's not that I don't like it, it's just too frivolous for me. I can smell just fine without it by cleaning regularly. – Oh look, there's someone who might need help."

We reached a house that had half its roof gone and all sorts of plants stuck to the side of it. Standing outside was a man and wife with two sons all wearing basic clothing. The wife was the first one to see us approaching.

"Oh look dear! It's Roxy!" she said.

"Hey there Roxy! What brings you out this way?" The man said.

"Oh you know, I'm just here to help out after the big storm we had last night. Did anyone get hurt, Perry?" she asked.

"No. We're all fine. Just the roof is damaged it looks like. Who's this little girl here?"

"This is my student Leah. She's Paul and Zenith's daughter."

"Oh she is, is she? And you say she's your student?"

"Yep! I'm learning how to use magic!"

"Oh how cute. I'm sure you think you can help, don't you?" his wife said to me.

 That comment ticked me off.

"Teacher, mind if I clean off the sides and you help with the roof?"

"Hm. Yeah. I think that sounds good to me. I'll go see if Hunlen still has those spare shingles."

I nodded then walked up to the house. I then summoned several water spells and struck the plants stuck to the side. I then used my winds spells to blow them into a nearby compost and then used earth magic to turn it all over. Perry's wife and sons were completely blown away by my control and ability.

"Oh my goodness! She really is your student Roxy! She's really good at that!"

"Mind coming with me Perry? I don't know if Hunlen is going to want any money for those shingles."

"Yeah. I can do that. I think Leah here can help Dorcia and the boys with the exterior cleanup."

Getting Perry and his wife's house back in order took a lot less time than I thought it would. It only took me about an hour to clean the house on the outside completely, and in that time, Roxy had come back with the shingles in tow. It only took her and Perry another hour to fix the roof. Afterwards Perry tried to give Roxy something but she wouldn't accept anything.

Magic is a tool that's a lot more useful than it has any right to be. It may take mages a long time to master it, but when they do, they become pretty valuable as a result. Even in this world, mages do exist in pretty decent numbers, but it would be a lie to say that they're common. It's more common to find fighters than it is to find mages.

After helping Perry Ames and his wife, we moved onto the next house which happened to be the Etos. They had a tree down that was blocking the entrance to their shed. At first they didn't want our help, but then Mrs Eto became insistent after learning that I was Paul's daughter.

She was way too friendly with me to the point that it crept me out. Their son was a brat and the father was a pushover who seemed annoyed by both of them. The son got so bad that at one point, Roxy just happened to accidentally make the ground in front of him slick and he ended up slipping onto his back with a spectacular thud. Roxy gave me a sneaky smirk and I got scolded for letting a giggle slip.

I guess I wasn't the only one getting annoyed by that brat.

All day we cleaned up houses, cut up trees, cleaned up yards and gathered debris that had blown into people's yards and fields. By the time the sun went down, we weren't even finished, but we had covered about five houses by that time. Papa and Momma came back after us and claimed they helped out four houses. twenty more to go I guess? Apparently Rudy spent the entire day reading since he didn't have to do any lessons, it must be nice to slack off while your sister is out working hard to help the community!

The next day there was more cleanup to do! Crops were blown down, roofs damaged, trees were blown over, branches and foliage were scattered on the roads, and livestock had gotten out of their pens. We had to hunt down so many chickens, find a couple of cows, and even calm down some horses. Whatever storm rolled in really did us a lot of damage. I don't remember this storm being in the anime, but I guess normal stuff just happens and gets skipped over?

I've learned so many names of the different people living in this community that I don't remember, and got to see so many different faces show various levels of gratitude from pure excitement to the most indifferent thanks. Though one person stood out from the rest, and that was a girl who lived with her father closer to the forest. Her father's name was Mathis, and the girl was a year older than me.

Her name was Aneste, and what had happened at her house was that a couple of windows had been broken, and the walls of the well they got water from had collapsed in. Roxy took care of the windows, and I took care of the well using earth magic to reset the stones. Aneste watched us work in full astonishment with a face that couldn't believe what she was seeing.

She watched us much more carefully than the others, and I could hear her repeating some of Roxy's chants under her breath. When we finally got finished, she insisted we stay so that she could make us something to eat. At first Roxy wanted to move onto the next house, but when Aneste mentioned it would be something sweet, Roxy changed her mind. I guess Roxy likes sweets?

Soon we were sat at the table of Aneste, a girl with brown hair and green eyes. What she made for us was very good and just like promised, it was sweet. It was a kind of pastry I'd never had before, and it paired brilliantly with the tea she made for us. Her house was definitely the modest peasant kind and was much much smaller than my own house. It really made me realize just how much money my parents really had.

"What you did to fix everything? That was magic?" Aneste observed. "That was so amazing! You must be the most amazing mage ever!"

"Aw. Thank you." Roxy responded, already on her sixth pastry.

"Is there any way that I can learn magic?" Aneste asked with an earnest tone.

Roxy swallowed and gave her a gentle smile.

"Magic is for special people, so if you haven't shown any signs of having magic capabilities yet, I'm not sure you're suited for it."

Aneste hung her head at those words. It seems Roxy crushed her dreams without realizing what she was saying may not actually be true. Maybe she didn't have a strong aptitude for it, but you're telling me she wasn't even going to try to teach her something? I couldn't stand for it and stood up from my seat.

"Why don't you come and watch us anytime you want? You may not have any magic, but you can at least watch and learn how it works until you get bored of it." I suggested.

Aneste's eyes started to light with hope.

"Are you sure that would be alright? I wouldn't want to cause any trouble."

"Actually. That isn't a bad idea." Roxy agreed. "There's no harm in watching us, just so long as you don't get in the way. I'd even be happy to answer a few questions while you watch. Just don't ask too many. I have to get my two students to actually do their lessons after all."

 Aneste jumped in joy.

"Okay! I promise I won't ask too many questions! I'll just have to ask my papa for permission, and then you'll let me watch?"

 "Yep. We will." Roxy concluded.
