Chapter 26
NIKOLAJ'S POV
I decided to stand my ground and hear whatever final words Sara had for me. When she finally reached me, she doubled over, hands braced against her knees, gasping for air.
She looked as though she'd bolted out of the house the second I left. She was wearing an apricot satin pajama set—the kind that left no doubt she'd been in bed—with a long red coat thrown over the top as an afterthought.
When she finally looked up, her eyes were swimming with tears.
"I'm sorry. Okay?" she whispered, swallowing hard. "I am truly sorry. I know I was acting cheap, desperate... disgusting. I don't know what came over me. I'm just... I'm so sorry." Her breathing was still ragged, and the tears were starting to spill over.
I have to admit, I was stunned. A genuine apology was the last thing I expected from her.
