Chapter 26 - Chapter 26: New Mission

As the days passed, many human children arrived in Sanguinem, their numbers already exceeding five times that of the Vampires there.

Consequently, the status of humans in the eyes of Vampires became even more insignificant.

During this time, some hotheaded youths stood up to resist the Vampires, but without exception, they all became nameless mummified corpses.

On this day, Luke was reading manga in his room as usual.

Krul had gradually adapted to Luke's presence and had grown accustomed to his occasional nonsensical chatter.

Luke was also happy to enjoy the leisure.

However, he didn't plan to just wait like this for four years; he needed to make some preparations in advance.

But currently, he was under house arrest in Krul's palace, and even if he wanted to prepare, he lacked the means.

Luke muttered to himself.

"Ugh, only being able to read books every day is so boring..."

Luke covered his face with a book and slumped on the bed, idle.

"I'll go find Krul-dian to play."

Luke sprang up with a carp kick and reached the door in a few steps.

Just as he was about to pull the door open, he faintly heard movement outside.

Luke guessed it was probably someone coming to report some trivial matter again.

Luke decided to eavesdrop.

"Are you sure they met?"

It was Krul's voice.

Another voice replied.

"Confirmed. At that time, Lord Ferid turned into an alley and met with that blonde boy alone. They only came out about ten minutes later. For fear of exposure, we didn't dare go in to investigate the contents of their conversation."

"What was that blonde brat's expression when he came out?"

"No special expression. After he came out, he hurriedly returned to his residence."

"Take me to see him."

"Yes!"

Mika is already selling his blood?

While Luke was still processing the overheard conversation, a small figure appeared out of thin air before his eyes.

"You have a pending mission."

Mission: Collect photos of the smiles of all the children in the Hyakuya Orphanage.

Reward: Magic Sword (Low-end)

Time Limit: Four years

"Finally, a new mission!"

Luke was somewhat pleasantly surprised. Since moving into Krul's palace, he had basically seen no new missions.

He also hadn't figured out the mission-releasing logic of this pseudo-system.

"Wait, no! What's the reward? A Magic Sword?! Is it the one Long Kui sacrificed herself to in 'Legend of Sword and Fairy'?!"

Luke clicked on the reward details.

Magic Sword (Low-end): A magic sword more suited to the constitution of the seraph of the end world. It does not contain Long Kui's spirit but possesses the effects of both Cursed Gear and Vampire armaments.

Luke was a bit disappointed at first, then became full of motivation.

The disappointment was that it wasn't the genuine Magic Sword, but the motivation came because he really wanted this reward.

Listening at the door for a while longer and confirming there was no movement outside, Luke cautiously opened the door and poked his head out.

That familiar and beautiful figure was not on the throne.

"OK, good chance!"

Luke opened the miku map and suddenly realized a serious problem.

The map had no labels, and he didn't know where the human residential area was. How was he supposed to find it? Sanguinem wasn't small!

But Luke didn't dwell on it for long, using his ultimate move for when he didn't know which path to take!

"Eeny, meeny, miny, moe... Then I'll choose this one! Let's go!"

Luke acted stealthily along the way, managing to dodge the inspections of several patrol teams.

"Whoa, the houses here are so luxurious. This must be the Vampire residential area, better scram!"

After walking for another half hour, Luke finally saw other human children.

The clothes Luke was wearing now were the same as these people's, so he no longer needed to avoid the patrol teams and blended in openly.

As long as he didn't run into Krul or Kyle, no one would know he was a special blood source who had run out of Krul's palace.

Luke wandered around for a good while, his expression gradually turning solemn.

Because the conditions here were simply too poor. The streets and alleys were extremely cramped, and there was a strange smell in the air.

The children had to wash their own clothes, but where would children under thirteen know how to wash clothes? Many just dipped them in water once and called it done. Consequently, most of their clothes were covered in stains, making them look like beggars.

Luke's mood was complex. Although he repeatedly told himself that none of this had anything to do with him, his conscience still felt a bit uneasy.

Luke took a deep breath, thinking to himself that he must fight for some things for humanity.

Keeping his composure, Luke continued his search for Hyakuya.

Although he currently looked no different from these children, he still tried his best to avoid meeting Vampires.

After all, given his constitution, if he met a Vampire who couldn't resist and lacked restraint, wouldn't it be a terrible loss if he accidentally got sucked to death?

"Eh? This back... Taichi?!"

Luke saw a four or five-year-old child not far away with his back to him, doodling on the ground. After careful observation, he confirmed the child's identity.

He was a member of the Hyakuya Orphanage, usually quite boisterous, cheerful, and lively.

Luke originally wanted to go up and say hello, but then he thought about it. If the people from the Hyakuya Orphanage knew he was also captured, it might cause a butterfly effect for their escape four years later.

He lived in Krul's palace. If Mika knew Luke was there, he would definitely find a way to come and find him so they could escape together, which would increase the risk of being discovered by patrol teams before they reached the exit.

After weighing the pros and cons, Luke decided not to go forward and reveal himself.

"But the mission can't be neglected. Let's start with you."

Following the map, Luke circled around to the front of Taichi and hid in the shadows, preparing to take a snapshot.

Taichi was drawing on the ground with a serious face, not smiling.

After a long while, Taichi finished his masterpiece, stood up to admire his work, and finally gave a satisfied smile.

"Miku, take the photo!"

Luke also took the opportunity to snap a photo of Taichi.

Almost the moment Luke got the photo, the phantom of a sword appeared. Then, the hilt position was wrapped in black mist. When the black mist dissipated, the hilt had become solid.

Luke reached out to touch it; he could feel the hilt, but he couldn't touch the parts that were still phantoms.

"After all that, it's a 'build-a-sword' Magic Sword?!"

After Taichi finished admiring his masterpiece, he stood up and wiped the 'canvas' clean with his feet so he could draw again later.

Immediately after, there was a rumbling sound.

Taichi rubbed his belly, looking a bit miserable.

He was hungry.

Then he ran in the direction where Luke was.

Luke quickly hid himself to prevent being discovered by Taichi.

Taichi ran past Luke, completely unaware of the presence of the Big Brother Luke he missed so much.

Luke guessed that the direction was likely where the children of the Hyakuya Orphanage lived.

"I've been out for so long, it's time to go back."

Luke returned to Krul's palace. Well, Krul hadn't come back yet.

Luke returned to his room and organized the useful route maps in his mind.

Perhaps from overusing his brain, Luke fell asleep after less than half an hour of thinking.
