"Man, and I was just getting fired up."
On the way back to the Slifer Red dorm, Jaden grumbled and complained the whole time.
"A duelist's obsession is truly deep..." Jiang He muttered.
Syrus looked helpless. Then, remembering something, he changed the subject and turned to Jiang He. "By the way, Jiang He, when you dueled Chazz earlier, you didn't take a rare card. You took a ton of money instead! But on this Duel Academy island, does money even have much use?"
Jaden joined the conversation, looking curious. "Syrus is right. Most of the supplies on this island are flown in by helicopter. The only place to spend money seems to be that one academy shop we saw while exploring earlier."
During the day, they had passed a reasonably sized shop that sold food, daily necessities, and supposedly received shipments of new cards every once in a while. Jaden couldn't think of any other use for cash.
Even so, Jiang He shouldn't need such a massive amount like twenty million! The academy provided food, after all. Taking a valuable rare card from Chazz would have been much more practical. A rare card's value wouldn't be much less than that cash, anyway.
"You'll see what the money is for soon enough." Jiang He maintained a mysterious smile, having no intention of explaining himself to Jaden or Syrus.
Once he built his luxury villa next to the Slifer Red dorm, and once these two were stuck eating dried fish and curry Mapo tofu every day while he enjoyed feasts, they would understand why he chose to fleece Chazz for cash!
"What's with the mystery?" Jaden scratched his head as he watched Jiang He head up the stairs to his room. He looked at Syrus, who was equally clueless.
Back in his room, Jiang He sat on his bed and used his Duel Academy Communicator to access the external network. He quickly located a legitimate construction team from off-island and messaged them to finalize the arrangements. They would come to the island to build his planned luxury house.
Coincidentally, the firm belonged to the Princeton Group. Using the money I won from you to hire your own people to work for me.jpg
Two-thirds of the twenty million would be gone by the time the project was finished, but Jiang He didn't mind. The remainder would be more than enough to last him a long time.
There really wasn't much to spend money on in the academy, as Syrus and Jaden had pointed out. As for buying new card packs from the shop? He had his system; he could just exchange points for them. He had no intention of sourcing cards from anywhere else.
"System, open personal panel."
With the house plans settled, Jiang He began to tally the spoils from his duel with Chazz.
[Name: Jiang He]
[Skill: Clear Mind (Once per duel, guarantees drawing the exact card you want.)]
[Current Deck: Exodia the Forbidden One (Troll OTK version)]
[Emotion Points: 2,800]
"That idiot Chazz actually gave me 2,000 points in a single duel?" Jiang He smiled with satisfaction. With 2,800 points, he had enough to buy the spirit-vision ability from the system shop and still have some left over.
[System Shop (Refreshes every two days, offers four random options.)]
Today's Options:
[Deck: Cyber Dragon (Zane version)] - 500 points.
[Deck: Gravekeeper's (Troll version)] - 1,000 points.
[Deck: Lava Golem (Troll Stalling version)] - 1,000 points.
[Skill: Duel Spirit Vision] - 2,000 points.
(Time remaining: One day and one hour.)
Jiang He immediately purchased Duel Spirit Vision!
Hum!!
A cool sensation flooded his eyes and spread throughout his body. It felt as if something were merging with his very soul, making him feel warm and cozy.
"Is this the power to see spirits...?" Jiang He murmured, opening his eyes and looking at his hands. He glanced at the deck on his nightstand.
Nothing had changed. It felt like he'd been sold a fake skill. Jiang He went numb for a moment. But surely the system wouldn't make a mistake. It was more likely that there simply weren't any Duel Spirits in his deck, which is why he couldn't see any.
"Kuri Kuri...!"
Just then, Jiang He heard a faint, familiar sound through the thin walls of the dorm. It didn't sound human, nor did it sound like any normal pet. It was the sound of a "partner" the cry of the Winged Kuriboh from the room next door! It was the rare card the King of Games, Yugi Muto, had given to Jaden earlier that day.
Jiang He perked up. He was now certain his new ability worked perfectly! Hearing the Winged Kuriboh meant he could now perceive the presence of Duel Spirits!
"I have to say, Chazz really is a good guy," Jiang He sighed happily. The man had provided the funds for his villa and the points for his vision.
Jiang He told himself that he, too, was a kind-hearted person. He was sure that after the "warmth" he had provided during their duel, Chazz would surely have a very "good" night's sleep, tossing and turning in frustration.
You buy me a meal, I buy you a defeat. It's only fair! (Funny)
