Chapter 19 - Chapter 19: Professor Crowler is Dumbfounded, Mamma Mia!

"A Duel Monsters deck is composed of Monster Cards, Spell Cards, and Trap Cards. Among them, Monster Cards are further divided into..."

Early the next morning, inside a spacious, tiered lecture hall at Duel Academy, the first class on theoretical knowledge had already begun.

The person standing behind the podium was none other than the old unfortunate soul who, during yesterday's entrance exam, had been instantly defeated by Jiang He's opening hand of all five pieces of Exodia the Forbidden One.

It was the golden-haired, mushroom-topped Professor Vellian Crowler.

His voice was somewhat comical, made even more ridiculous by his habit of adding the verbal tic "Na no ne" to the end of nearly every sentence. It gave him an incredibly campy air.

"Spell Cards are categorized into Normal Spells, Quick-Play Spells, Continuous Spells..."

Jiang He had absolutely no interest in Crowler's lecture on these most basic of basic theories. Instead, he rested his chin on his hand, leaning back against the high desk in the rear row, and idly scanned the classroom.

Although Duel Academy was divided into three ranks Obelisk Blue, Ra Yellow, and Slifer Red lectures were held with everyone in the same large hall, just as he remembered.

In fact, it wasn't just his year; students from all three grade levels were present.

Not far away, Jiang He spotted Alexis Rhodes, who was a year ahead of them, along with her two Obelisk Blue tag-along best friends. Even further up in the grades was Zane Truesdale, who was set to graduate next year.

"Hm...?"

Sensing someone's gaze, Alexis paused for a moment and glanced to the side. When she saw it was Jiang He, she remembered the events of the previous night and gave him a slight, acknowledging nod. Then, she turned back to focus on Crowler's lecture.

"Eh? Alexis, who is that guy?"

"Is he someone you know?"

The two friends sitting beside Alexis noticed her small gesture and looked toward Jiang He, whispering curiously. They had been asked to help a female teacher in the infirmary yesterday and hadn't finished until late at night, so they hadn't been with Alexis when she met Jiang He. Seeing her nod to a boy who looked like a fresh recruit made them wonder what had happened.

"That's the interesting guy everyone's talking about," Alexis said with a faint smile. "The one from yesterday who supposedly drew all five pieces of Exodia the Forbidden One in his first turn and defeated Professor Crowler in an OTK."

She was still curious about the secret Jiang He had refused to reveal last night the reason why he wasn't afraid of people building decks specifically to counter his Exodia OTK strategy.

"Oh! So he's the lucky Examinee No. 111, Jiang He!"

Her two friends, Jasmine and Mindy, suddenly looked enlightened. It seemed the rumor had already spread across the entire academy!

However, like most students who had heard the story, they didn't take Jiang He too seriously. They assumed he had simply been incredibly lucky to pull off an OTK against Professor Crowler.

Their whispering, however, reached the ears of several other Obelisk Blue students nearby. Quite a few people turned their heads to look at Jiang He with curiosity.

This collective movement immediately caught Crowler's attention at the front of the room! Following their gaze, his eyes landed right on Jiang He.

"..." Jiang He felt a sudden headache. Great, they're just painting a target on my back, aren't they?

Sure enough, the moment Crowler saw Jiang He, his expression froze. Those terrible memories from the day before came rushing back.

"Mamma Mia!"

It was that "slacker" student again! Crowler's inner thoughts went into a frenzy. He was so frustrated he nearly jumped out of his skin. Because Jiang He's "god-hand" start was so rare,

the news of Crowler being defeated in a single turn had become the laughingstock of the academy. Crowler had spent the previous night in his dorm gnashing his teeth so hard he'd nearly bitten through his own shirt collars.

By comparison, being beaten by that other slacker, Jaden Yuki, was almost easier to swallow. At least that defeat wasn't as infamous as the Exodia incident.

"Jiang He, stand up and answer the next question," Crowler said, forcing a stern face and calling on him. "Explain the different types of Trap Cards!"

Internally, Crowler was already snickering behind his hand. Once the slacker stood up and failed to answer, he would give him a harsh dressing-down to get a bit of revenge for yesterday's humiliation!

But just as he was starting to let a "comical" smirk slip onto his face, Jiang He's lazy voice rang out.

"Trap Cards are divided into Normal Traps, Counter Traps, and Continuous Traps."

"Continuous Traps can further be subdivided into regular Continuous Traps and Trap Monsters!"

The moment he finished, everyone in the room looked stunned.

"He... he actually answered it perfectly!" Crowler was dumbfounded. In fact, Jiang He's answer was even more detailed than the standard answer Crowler had prepared.

He had even included the special category of Trap Monsters those rare Continuous Traps that are treated as both a Monster Card and a Trap Card after activation!

"Super Mamma Mia!"

Crowler was completely floored. Wasn't this boy's written exam score a zero, just like that other slacker Jaden Yuki?! How can someone with a zero score give such a precise answer?
