Jace Lennox quickly pulled out his phone and dialed Phoebe Faulkner's number.
Phoebe Faulkner was at Ronan Langdon's house, just about to go to sleep, when her phone started ringing.
She took out her phone and saw the caller ID. It was Jace Lennox.
She stared at the phone in her hand and didn't answer, letting it ring until the call disconnected automatically.
About a minute later, the phone rang again.
Phoebe Faulkner gazed at the caller ID and finally answered just before the call could disconnect again. "Hello?"
"Girl, where are you right now?" Jace Lennox's anxious voice came through the phone.
Hearing the anxiety in his voice, Phoebe Faulkner thought about how cold he'd been to her lately. She thought about how he'd been spending all his time with another woman—a woman she despised—and she couldn't tell what was real anymore.
"Girl, what's wrong? Where are you?" Hearing no reply, he asked again from the other end of the line.
