Chapter 20 - Beaten

The next morning, Kai grabbed some clothes out of his bag and sprayed a substance all over his body to get rid of any unpleasant stench.

It only took him a few minutes to arrive at school afterward.

The first thing he did was wait at the front gate.

Twenty minutes later, a vehicle arrived and a figure approached.

The figure had a look of anticipation on his face as he greeted.

"Good morning, Kai!"

Kai, who had dozed off from waiting so long, grunted at the figure.

He said, "We need to fix that body of yours."

"Excuse me?" the figure asked, startled.

Kai let out a lazy hum in response.

This figure was Fernando, who had just arrived.

Now that Kai had completed his objective yesterday, he finally took a good look at him.

He was small and chubby.

His arms carried fat, but Kai could immediately tell they carried no amount of strength in them.

His legs were also short, barely able to dodge attacks, much less run very fast.

How did I not see that belly? Kai wondered to himself as he looked at Fernando's bulging belly.

At least he's got a good face. If we train him, he will definitely attract the ladies~ Ryker voiced as he pictured Fernando's face on an athletic body.

Kai nodded in agreement but couldn't help humming once more as he realized training Fernando was actually going to take a lot of time and effort he lacked.

"Umm, Kai..." Noticing Kai's judging looks, he hesitated.

Kai hummed once more.

"I keep my promises," Kai said.

He then pushed Fernando into the crowd of students coming in.

Shocked, Fernando fell over onto someone.

"Who the..." the student grunted as he never expected to be interrupted right outside of school.

He looked down and immediately felt disgust.

"You fat-fuck!"

He slapped his hand out.

Pow.

A quiet, almost silent sound of a slap rang out.

It was so soft nobody even heard it.

But the effect it had was too great to ignore.

Fernando flew farther away from the school.

A soft slap, and yet it carried enough power to send him flying five feet.

The students who were minding their own business quickly scurried away.

Soon, it was only Fernando and two others outside.

Brandon and Tony.

Brandon patted his uniform with an irritated look.

Tony, who was unaffected, laughed and grabbed Fernando by the hair.

"How lucky of us. We were in a really bad mood, and look what Mother Luck sent towards us!" said Tony as he pushed Fernando's face into the ground.

"A good punching bag!"

He laughed louder as he repeated the same action over and over again.

Fernando's face was soon smeared in blood.

"Kai... why?" whispered Fernando, his eyes blurry.

He looked around and didn't see Kai anywhere.

When he realized Kai had ditched him, he chuckled.

His eyes soon blurred with rage as he laughed louder.

"What's so funny, you fat-fuck?" wondered Tony.

He thought Fernando had gone mad from the beating.

However, instead of stopping, he slammed his head into the ground again.

Fernando laughed even louder.

That's when Tony finally stopped.

"You've really lost some screws today," he said when Fernando lifted his head up with great difficulty.

He revealed his teeth, filled with blood, and announced,

"I should've just killed you two yesterday."

"..."

Tony raised an eyebrow in confusion.

That's when Brandon joined in.

"Kill us? You don't even have the power to lick our shoes."

Brandon lifted his foot and brought it down onto Fernando's hand with great force.

When his foot landed on his hand, Fernando didn't scream, he didn't howl, and he didn't show any signs of pain.

Instead, he spat at Brandon and said, "Is this you trying to get back some face after being so brutally defeated by Kai?"

His spit mixed with his own blood landed on the ground next to Brandon.

It was a pathetic showcase of bravery.

And yet, it affected the two greatly.

Tony slammed Fernando's face into the ground again and said, "If a word of what happened yesterday gets out, you and your family are done."

He threatened, but his voice said otherwise.

Fernando could tell he was panicking.

So he spat once more and said, "Fuck you!"

This time it flew to the edge of Brandon's shoe, and it led to Brandon kicking him in the rib.

This time, Fernando let out a pained growl.

Tony then kicked him in the other rib.

Fernando had expected as much and was barely able to defend himself.

Still, he got hit, and the pain was unbearable.

He felt like he was about to die as blood escaped his mouth.

He tried ignoring it all and looked both of them in the face.

He then turned toward the school, and a hateful glare appeared in his eyes.

The students, the teachers... they are all corrupted.

But I can't blame them. I can't blame Kai. I can only blame myself for being weak.

Dad always said it was a man-eat-man world, and ever since I came to this school, that's all I've seen.

He noted to himself with a peaceful smile.

Next time, I will definitely kill them.

Brandon and Tony who saw that smile were enraged.

"Dammit! Where's the pleasure in beating up this fat-fuck?!" Tony shouted.

His eyes flashed as he prepared to send a full-strength kick into Fernando.

"Stop it."

That's when a voice stopped them both.

The voice was soft and somewhat charming, but it carried a sense of duty, justice, and authority within it.

The two turned to see a girl staring coldly right at them.

Not recognizing the girl, the two ignored her and went back to beating up Fernando.

That's when a familiar voice spoke.

"Did you not hear the princess?"

A light-blonde-haired girl approached the two.

Her eyes contained no emotions.

The two looked up and shivered.

"Miss Maxfield!"

The two stood up straight immediately.

"You worthless dogs," she said with clear disdain in her eyes.

She then turned toward the school entrance.

"When were you going to stop this?" she suddenly asked.

A figure came from inside the school's entrance.

The figure was Kai, who wore a wide smile.

Brandon and Tony shrank behind the light-blonde-haired girl almost instantly.

The girl who spoke at first showed a serious face, but inside she was shocked.

Kai has been acting really weird lately, she thought.

Eh, who cares? My love for him has already taken full root in my heart.

This girl was obviously Abigail.

"You caught me."

Kai sighed with his hands raised in the air as if surrendering.

The light-blonde girl raised an eyebrow at his actions.

She said, "I heard you are not keen on smiling."

Kai replied, "I see you have done your research. Well, that's a big lie! I smile when something mind-blowing crosses my eyes."

"And what do you consider mind-blowing?"

"I guess multiple people heads exploding at once?"

"..."

"Sorry, that wasn't pun intended," Ryker apologized as he took a step forward.

Brandon and Tony took numerous steps back.

Ryker chuckled, and the light-blonde-haired girl rolled her eyes.

However, another person didn't like Ryker's actions.

"Let's fight right here, right now!"

The yellow-haired youth jumped at Ryker.

Ryker simply looked at him.

He froze.

Ryker then ignored him and took more steps toward them while giving Abigail a wink.

Abigail almost had a heart attack right then and there.

Soon, he was facing the light-blonde-haired girl.

She stared at him, and he stared back.

She quickly averted her gaze and whispered,

"I cannot understand you."

Ryker clicked his tongue, disappointed.

"If you can't understand me, how are you supposed to deal with my little bro?"

"Excuse me?"

Ryker shook his head and grabbed Fernando off the ground.

"Kai..." Fernando said weakly.

Ryker shushed him and fed him some liquid medicine.

"When you see my eyes turn red, you call me boss."

"Boss..." he whispered as his complexion improved at a rapid rate.

"Good! From now on, you will never suffer a beating again!" Ryker declared.

His eyes turned ocean-blue after he announced that.

A blank, indifferent look appeared on his face as he ignored the Maxfield's.

He announced to Brandon and Tony, "My brother has removed you two from his gang, so whatever happens to you two starting now, he doesn't care."

Instead of feeling sad at what Kai said, the two actually let out sighs of relief.

After saying that, Kai took Fernando away.

"Come back!" the yellow-haired youth yelled at Kai, but a hand stopped him.

The light-blonde-haired girl looked at Kai with curious eyes and Abigail who was still trying to control herself from the wink Ryker had just given her.

So this is the person the princess likes? she thought, licking her lips as a cruel look flashed across her face before she quickly hid it.

He is not a simple person. It's best I leave him be for now until I get further information on him.

In the infirmary, Kai was clicking his tongue.

"I didn't expect them to be such patient schemers."

He shook his head as he thought of the Maxfield's.

I really wanted to give them a good beatdown.

Ryker shook his head as well, a bit disappointed.

"Kai..."

At that moment, Fernando's weak voice rang out.

He soon realized he wasn't actually weak.

He sat up, surprised.

"I'm okay?" he wondered.

"Another one of my drugs. I call it 'The Miracle,'" Kai told him.

"I see," said Fernando.

At this point, he was no longer surprised.

Instead, he asked, "Why did you push me into them?"

A pained look appeared on his face.

Seeing that face, Kai reminded him,

"We are not friends."

"Still!" Fernando wanted to object, but Kai continued.

"I am simply keeping my part of the deal, and what I did was give you an important lesson."

He lectured with the same indifferent look on his face.

"You should have killed them in that alley."

Fernando hesitated.

"But if their families choose to investigate, it would lead back to you and—"

Before he could finish, Kai raised a finger and coldly declared again,

"We. Are. Not. Friends."

He continued,

"It's a man-eat-man world where the Hundred Families think they can do whatever they want and get away with it."

He then paused and explained,

"Sometimes, if you want to get rid of an enemy, you must be prepared to drag down others with them."

"Including yourself."

He finished as he handed Fernando a list.

"Starting today, do these exercises. In three months, I expect to see a new person."

He said this before taking his leave.

"After that, I will truly start teaching you how to fight."

Five minutes after Kai left, Fernando chuckled.

"He talks like my father," he thought as he rested back on the infirmary bed.

"No wonder Father said I should befriend him."

He soon felt determined.

"Be cruel to others and myself, huh?"

He thought of the future.

"Maybe in a year or so, I will go by the name Cruel Fern."
