Chapter 16 - The Sakura Veil

That morning, the world was covered by a thick fog.

A breeze flowed through the branches of the trees. Leaves rustled together, creating a harmonious sound. Birds chirped, forming a song of nature.

Satya woke up in the bliss of dawn.

The fear of the night still lingered in his heart, but the softness of nature lifted his spirits.

A cool breeze brushed against him, soothing his burn marks for the journey ahead.

As the rays of sunlight broke through the curtain of night, a new day began, filled with gentle peace.

After the night's rest, Satya was feeling a bit better. His mind and ears had recovered enough to function again, albeit with caution.

Satya looked around and saw a view that mesmerized his heart. His eyes remained glued to it as the scenery soothed his mind.

The sky seemed like a canvas of black and white, with golden rays breathing life into it. Clouds lay scattered across the heavens, forming mesmerizing patterns.

The birds sang as if congratulating Satya.

Mesmerized by the lovely view, Satya's broken mind began to heal a little faster, and his heart started to feel lighter.

Even though his burn marks still hurt, the wind soothed them enough for him to feel almost normal again.

Satya climbed a tree to get a better look at the view.

After reaching higher branches, he saw the vast plains stretching endlessly in every direction his eyes could reach. Rays of light poured from the east, and the Sun slowly ascended into the heavenly sky.

Satya took out some berries and ate them while fully enjoying the calmness of the mesmerizing view.

After yesterday's encounter, Satya had changed.

He understood now that the future was uncertain, so he intended to make full use of his time here.

Not by idling away his days, but by truly experiencing every moment.

And what he needed right now was rest.

Rest from the horrors of this world.

So he decided to focus on beautiful things, such as the sunrise and the sunset.

After some time, as the Sun rose higher into the sky, most of the fog disappeared, though it still covered the distant lands.

The clouds moved in a rhythmic dance.

Satya climbed to the highest point of the tree to scout where he would go next.

He searched carefully for signs of danger, but what he found was the complete opposite.

In the distance, he saw a field filled with countless colors. A faint fragrance drifted from that direction, the wind carrying the scent of flowers toward him.

So Satya set his sights on that place.

He climbed down from the tree.

Nearby, he noticed the familiar lump of Shadow, but by now he had grown used to it.

"Shadow, we are going to a field of flowers today."

The Shadow did not reply, remaining as silent as the trees around them.

Satya didn't mind. He was already accustomed to the silence.

Picking up his belongings, he merrily made his way toward the field.

This truly was a wonderful morning, because Satya no longer felt the third presence.

Nothing lingered in his peripheral vision.

Even after climbing the tree and scanning the surroundings carefully, he hadn't seen it.

So he was genuinely overjoyed to be freed from such a being.

And the way nature welcomed him that morning was enough to place him in a good mood.

After walking for some time, they finally reached the field of flowers.

The flowers came in countless colors and shapes, yet Satya found every single one beautiful all the same.

"Isn't this lovely, Shadow?"

Satya showed the Shadow a black flower that looked as though a fragment of night itself had been turned into a bloom.

"It is."

The Shadow looked at the flower as if seeing a reflection of himself within it.

It was the only flower of its kind in the entire field, and the Shadow felt a strange sense of belonging toward it.

The Shadow loved the flower so much that he asked Satya not to pluck it and to let it remain where it was.

Satya had already noticed the resemblance between the flower and the Shadow, so he had no intention of plucking it anyway.

Then Satya looked ahead from the mound, and the sight before him filled his heart with memories of his old world.

A path of white flowers stretched into the distance, lined with trees on both sides.

Their pink leaves drifted softly through the air, creating a mesmerizing scene.

Satya had heard so much about these trees in his previous life and had wished at least once to see them with his own eyes.

He never expected that wish to be fulfilled this way.

These were Sakura trees, and the falling pink petals gave the entire path a magical appearance.

Suddenly, a light rain began to fall.

The Sun still shone brightly overhead, so Satya immediately understood what it meant.

He looked around.

Then he looked toward the flower-covered path.

And what he saw completely mesmerized him.

At the end of the white floral road stood a rainbow, giving the pink-and-white scenery a truly heavenly appearance.

Satya could not take his eyes off the view.

He was so enchanted by the scenery that he almost failed to notice something in the distance.

Half-hidden behind a tree, stood a figure.

And for a moment, Satya forgot how to breathe.

It was the figure of his mother.
