My halberd sang in my hands as I sent another serpent flying, its body cracked in multiple places as the axe hit it at an odd angle; scales were cracked and bones snapped, achieving the result I needed even if it was in a messier fashion than I wanted.
However a kill was a kill, and no matter what the end result was what mattered here, so even as that serpent thudded against the ground and slid to a halt, I only gave it enough attention to verify that it was dead before I was moving onto the next one.
Yet even with the 'ease' of my movements, I knew that every single swing I took, every step I made, every pivot and shift, every single breath I took... all of it burned as the infected Qi in my blood rushed around faster and faster.
The adrenaline didn't numb the agony like it should have, nor did my focus on the battle help me ignore what was going on inside of me; everything I did made my insides burn, and that heat was making it very hard to keep going.
