Arima's wood clone was lounging on the ship when a group of menacing figures suddenly surrounded the Konha Senju.
They bared their teeth and brandished weapons, hemming the vessel in as if ready to swarm aboard and tear it apart.
The clone stepped onto the deck, glanced at the small fry below, and asked, "What do you think you're doing?"
The man in the lead shouted up, "You brat, you run pretty fast, don't you? Already back on your ship. What's the matter, hit someone and think you can just run?
This is Kano. You don't get to come and go as you please!"
Hearing this, the clone immediately understood. Clearly, the real body had gotten into trouble outside.
Still, the clone didn't take these nobodies seriously. With curiosity, he asked, "And who exactly did I hit?"
The man flared with rage, skipping words altogether as he lunged forward. He swung a massive sword down at the clone with deadly force.
The clone, of course, could use Haki. With Observation Haki, every move of the attacker was laid bare before him, making it easy to slip past even the trickiest strikes.
As the two clashed, the entire Kano was stirring.
The Happo Navy and the Niho Navy had just united, their two leaders commanding nearly a thousand elite fighters as they marched toward the docks in force.
The incident was quickly reported by the local Marine branch to Fleet Admiral Sengoku the Buddha.
At Marineford, Sengoku, still newly appointed as Fleet Admiral, was chatting with his friend, Vice Admiral Monkey D. Garp.
Feeding scrap paper from the desk to the little goat at his side, Sengoku said, "The Five Elders came to me not long ago. Their intelligence network spotted the Red Force in the West Blue.
According to their calculations, Shanks and his crew disappeared there for nearly a full day and night. Where they went, what they did, no one knows."
Garp pulled a doughnut from his paper bag and bit into it, clearly uninterested in the matter. He even held one out to Sengoku.
But Sengoku noticed the doughnut had a glob of snot on it and pushed it away with disgust.
Garp, unfazed, kept eating and said casually, "Why weren't they monitoring Shanks back when he was in the New World? The Five Elders are just too jumpy, every little stir and they panic."
Sengoku agreed in spirit, though as Fleet Admiral, he had no choice but to follow the Elders' directives.
He sighed, then asked, "What's Dragon planning? The World Government isn't something that can just be toppled."
Garp remained as lackadaisical as ever. "I don't care what he's up to. He already gave me a grandson, my debt's been paid. Can't count on Luffy's father, so I sure as hell won't let Luffy stray off course."
Sengoku handed him a red-stamped file. "Take a look yourself. Before heading to West Blue, Shanks made a long stop in Foosha Village."
Garp quickly flipped through the confidential report, his expression growing darker with every page.
By the end, veins bulged on his forehead as he snarled, "That brat Shanks! Luffy's still just a kid! No way, I've got to go back. I can't let him lead Luffy astray!"
Just then, the Den Den Mushi on Sengoku's desk rang. It was a call from Marine Branch 80 near Kano.
Sengoku answered. "This is Sengoku."
The officer on the other end reported crisply, "The Happo Navy and the Niho Navy are mobilizing on a massive scale toward the port, likely preparing to set sail. Exact objective unknown."
"I understand," Sengoku replied gravely, then hung up. He turned to Garp. "Since you're heading back to the East Blue anyway, handle this matter on the way."
Without overthinking it, Garp agreed. His plan, deal with Shanks in West Blue, then return to Foosha Village to discipline his two grandsons properly.
To most, Kano incident might have seemed like a small ripple on the sea, not worth much attention. But within a day, it became clear just how wrong that assumption was.
Chinjao and his soon-to-be in-laws from the Niho Navy had combined forces and reached the docks.
What they found shocked them: the ground littered with their injured men, and only one enemy standing.
Chinjao stepped forward, glaring up at the figure on the ship. "You brat! You're the one who did this to Sai, aren't you?"
The clone shook his head, then nodded.
Chinjao didn't understand the gesture, but with so many wounded at his feet, there was no need to ask further. Clearly, this was the culprit from the tavern.
He hardened his head in Armament Haki, then launched himself like an arrow, crashing down toward the clone on the Konoha Senju.
But from behind him came a shout. "Wood Style: Armament, Shield Wall Jutsu!"
A massive black shield with a demonic fanged face materialized, and Chinjao slammed straight into it. The impact left him reeling, tumbling from the sky.
He would have smashed face-first into the ground if not for his ally catching him just in time.
Arima himself had just returned to the port with his family when he saw Chinjao barreling at his ship.
That Armament-coated Shield Wall had held the perfect counter to Chinjao's strike. It was one of Arima's latest discoveries: blending ninjutsu with Haki.
Supported by his ally, Chinjao staggered upright, turning back to see who had ambushed him.
The sight startled him, his subordinates had mistaken the target earlier.
But now the grudge was deeper than ever. To him, both Arima and his clone were unforgivable.
Glaring at them, Chinjao roared, "Today, we'll settle this! I've never taken such a loss in Kano."
His right arm hardened with Armament Haki, and with his signature Hasshoken technique, he swung down from above at Arima and his companions.
The Hasshoken could strike directly or unleash powerful shockwaves. It even served as defense. A truly balanced art.
Chinjao knew the real culprit was the youth before him, but since his family had been insulted, none of them would be spared.
Arima despised pirates' reckless ways, especially Chinjao's habit of attacking without question.
He activated Kamui, instantly transporting his group to safety before the attack's shockwaves could reach them.
Then, cloaked fully in Armament Haki, he gathered a torrent of chakra into his right fist and met Chinjao's blow head-on.
Elsewhere, Tsunade had left Arata and Yuna with Naomi. This time, she faced one of the Niho Navy leaders alone, eager to test the Armament Haki she had recently mastered.
Chinjao's men, meanwhile, swarmed the Konoha Senju.
But every assault crashed uselessly against the massive Armament Shield Wall created by the clone. No matter how hard they struck, the barrier held.
With a single punch, Arima sent Chinjao flying, then pressed forward, his iron fist slamming at Chinjao's head.
To his surprise, the blow reshaped Chinjao's once-rounded skull into a sharp cone.
Arima froze in disbelief.
But Chinjao was elated. After years, he had regained the head cone he once prided himself on, all thanks to his enemy's strike.
Facing the short-statured Arima, he growled, "Since you've done me this favor, I won't kill you. But punishment is still due!"
Arima couldn't help but laugh. This man really liked making up his own rules. Why would Arima ever need his forgiveness?
Smirking, he said, "While I'm still in a good mood, take your leave. Keep pestering me, and I'll hammer your cone head back into shape."
That jab reignited Chinjao's greatest shame. Fury surged as his Conqueror's Haki erupted outward, battering friend and foe alike.
Arima met it head-on, releasing his own Conqueror's Haki at full force. The clash crushed Chinjao's will, he lost completely.
On the other side, Tsunade was reveling in battle. Never before had she fought so freely since learning Armament Haki. With every exchange, her control grew sharper.
Her opponent, however, relied on Observation Haki to dodge her killing blows. Tsunade hadn't yet learned Observation herself, but instinct and skill kept her defenses solid.
The duel reached a stalemate, neither could overcome the other.
Meanwhile, reinforcements from across Kano poured toward the docks, over ten thousand strong.
In his office, Morgans, president of the World Economy News Paper, received the report.
Recognizing the makings of a major event, he ordered his reporters to capture every detail of the battle.
Arima noticed the journalists too. He welcomed it, what better way to spread the name of Konoha across the seas?
