Chapter 5 - HOUSE HUNTING I

CHAPTER FIVE: HOUSE HUNTING I

"Nat, do you seriously need to go house hunting??" Lillian asked Nat the next day as she saw her wrinkling her nose in disgust at every interval.

"You don't expect me to live in this rathole with you. I mean, can't you see how small it is?? My room back home is way way bigger than this. It's as if they gave you a room inside a whole apartment." Nat said.

"Well, you can't expect to live in a big house when your just a student." Lillian said.

"That would have been for when I didn't have the money to rent a bigger one. But since I do, I definitely can't live here then." Nat said.

"So what if you don't find a house today??" Lillian asked.

"I'll just look for a hotel or better still, spend the night at Chrisler's house. It's because I'm waiting for him that's why we're still having this conversation." Nat said with finality.

"Then I guess I won't be able to convince you."

"Yeah."

Just then someone knocked and Nat said "that must be Chrisler." Before she walked towards the door and opened it.

"Finally." Nat said.

"I'm sorry I just had a something important to do before coming here."

"Whatever. Let's just go." Nat said. But before she could step out, Chrisler held her hand and said "have you asked her?"

Nat then shook her head. But before she could say anything, Lillian came towards them and said "hey Chrisler. Can I have your number? Don't get me wrong, I just want to have it incase I need to speak with Nat and her lines not going or she refuses to pick my call."

Chrisler then looked at Nat before he finally said "yeah. Sure. You can have it."

Lillian then gave him her phone and they exchanged numbers.

"See ya." Lillian said as she went back inside.

Immediately she went inside Chrisler said Nat squealed, before they finally left.

"When you said you knew a lot of places, was this part of them??" Nat asked Chrisler as they got to their first destination.

"Well, yeah. Don't just depend on the outside cause it's actually very nice on the inside. C'mon. Mr Roderick, please show us inside." Chrisler said to the house agent.

After entering inside, Nat didn't even bother to look much before she said

"Next."

"So soon." Chrisler said but Nat eyed him.

**********

"I promise you. You're gonna love this one. It is a three bedroom apartment with four toilets and a basement. It also has a large kitchen and...." Mr Roderick was saying before Nat interrupted him.

"Can we just see inside. I mean, it's not what it has that's gonna attract me to the house but how it looks."

"Ohh... Kay." Mr Roderick said and showed them the inside. But just as Nat entered, a rat crawled up towards her and she screamed, before she quickly composed herself and said

"Next."

"Not again." Chrisler complained.

**********

"This might be the last house we get to see today. Because, as you can see the clouds are gathering indicating that rain is about to fall and I would not want the rain to meet me here." Mr Roderick said.

"That still doesn't mean I'll manage the house if it isn't up to my taste."

"Well then, suit yourself." He said to Nat.

"Let's head inside Mr Morgan." He then said to Chrisler.

After entering inside, a strong smell hit Nat and she started coughing profusely and also had a hard time breathing. She then went outside and Chrisler offered her water. After she drank it she was able to calm down a bit, before she said "what was that smell?"

"I think it was the insecticide or the pesticide." Mr Roderick said.

"What!" Both Nat and Chrisler exclaimed.

"How was I supposed to know it'd still be smelling by the time we reached here." Mr Roderick said.

"Wait, I don't understand. You asked people to spray it?" Chrisler asked.

"Yes. But it's not my fault. If she hadn't complained about the rat, I wouldn't have told them to spray it."

"Chrisler, are you still waiting for me to say it??" Nat suddenly asked.

Chrisler then looked at Nat before he said "Next. But this time, Mr Roderick will no longer be leading the way. Let's go Nat."

But before they could leave, Chrisler's phone rang.
