After his first appearance—where he was defeated by the Amazing Spider-Man—Electro was taken away and imprisoned.
Apparently, once Harry freed him, the love he once had for Spider-Man shifted entirely onto Harry, turning him into Harry's personal enforcer and enemy of Spider-Man.
And now, seeing Harry gravely injured by Peter, Electro was furious.
He floated above a power tower, endless electricity surging from the tip of the tower straight into his body.
And Electro intended to use all of that power to attack Peter.
Szzz—Szzz—
Bolts of electricity shot out like spears.
Peter dodged rapidly.
"Spider-Man! Is running around like a rat all you can do?!" Electro roared wildly. Wrapped in glowing blue electricity, he looked like a thunder god descending to the mortal world.
"Oh~ you're the God of Thunder now? Where's your meow-meow hammer? Did you forget it back in Asgard?" Peter flipped and twisted around the bolts, mocking him. "Your lightning's not nearly as strong as Thor's! Pretty fake, aren't you?"
"Thor, the God of Thunder? A myth! I, Max Dillon, am the one true GOD—OF—THUN—DER!" Electro bellowed, pressing his hands together.
Boom!
A massive lightning beam shot forward, hurtling toward Peter.
Wherever it passed, the air filled with ionized particles and scorched heat.
Peter continued firing off quips, purposely disrupting Electro's concentration.
Anger destroys rational thought—irrational attacks are easier to dodge.
And indeed, Peter dodged more easily as Electro became more agitated.
At the same time, Peter quietly monitored the slow recovery of his injuries and searched the surrounding environment for a way to break the stalemate.
The Amazing Spider-Man had fought Electro twice before.
The first time: Times Square.Their initial clash.
He used water's conductivity—splashing it onto Electro so the electricity would follow the water, turning Electro into a conductor and electrocuting himself.
The second time: another power plant.
By then, Electro had learned of his weakness and wore an Oscorp waterproof suit.
When Spider-Man tried using water again, Electro simply blasted it apart with massive currents.
Spider-Man nearly met his end that time.
But then Gwen, desperate, confessed everything to her father, Captain Stacy—who learned that Spider-Man was actually his daughter's boyfriend.
Because of that, Stacy used his authority to disconnect the power plant from the city grid.
Electro, cut off from the supply, lost his massive energy source.
Even then, empowered by an entire power station, he remained terrifyingly strong.
In the end, Spider-Man—thanks to Gwen's help—used the immense surge created when the power cables were shut off and then instantly restored. The overload fried Electro completely.
But before Spider-Man could finish the job, Green Goblin Harry arrived, kidnapped Gwen, and escaped with the heavily injured Electro.
Now, Electro had clearly "leveled up."
They had captured Captain Stacy, and also created enough chaos within city administration that no one could cut the power grid again.
New York had four major power plants. One was destroyed, but three remained.
Meaning Electro now had access to the electricity of three power plants plus the entire city grid.
Calling his energy supply "infinite" was hardly an exaggeration.
The good news was that although Electro's total reserves were enormous, his personal output had not increased.
In the memories Peter brought from his own world—and compared with Thor's performance in the Battle of New York—Electro still came up short, both in quantity and in quality.
Also, anticipating a fight with Electro, Peter had magnetized his web-shooters beforehand, preventing them from being fried by electricity.
As Peter moved, he noticed that all the rooftop water towers—used for firefighting—were completely empty.
Clearly, the ones who set up this trap had prepared thoroughly.
Even though Electro had already developed resistance to water attacks in the past, they still removed the water as a precaution.
So for now, defeating Electro with water was off the table.
Both known strategies—overloading him with sudden surges of power and disrupting him with water—were unusable.
Peter had to think of something else.
EOS short circuit… high current melting ESD protection… overvoltage breakdown… thermal stress cracking components… burning PCB traces… overload power on a specific line to force it to fail…
Electrical engineering knowledge flashed rapidly through Peter's mind.
Things he learned from personal interest in school, from designing his web shooters and suits, and from the expertise of the other Spider-Men he had merged with—Amazing, Blonde Peter, and more.
Their combat experience and inventions were only part of what he gained.Their technical knowledge was an equally important treasure.
He could have learned it himself, but absorbing their accumulated knowledge saved time—time he could now use to integrate it, or learn even more.
Using that, Peter began building an internal model of Electro—a schematic—and filled in the parameters based on observation.
Electro's body could absorb, store, and manipulate static electrical energy, releasing it for various effects.
Normally, he absorbed energy from external sources.
Without external sources, he could convert his own chemical energy to produce limited static charges.
But this situation was a third type: Electro had turned himself into a living "transformer," channeling the currents of the power plants and the city grid directly through his body.
