"I shouldn't be here!"
Lilian's survival instincts kicked in immediately and her brain yelled... Run!
She bolted out of the apartment, her feet barely touching the ground as she ran, the shopping bag still clutched tightly in her trembling hand.
It was a miracle that it hadn't fallen from her hand yet.
Her heart was pounding so hard she could hear it in her ears, drowning out everything else.
"Who... Who could have done this?" She gasped, her chest heaving as she stopped just outside the building, her eyes darting around frantically.
Then a thought struck her like lightning.
Victor Hale... He should have an idea!
He had eyes on her apartment. He had set up surveillance to monitor her activities- he would have seen who entered while she was gone.
A small amount of relief flooded through her for a split second. At least, she would know who was behind it. She could start from there.
