"This is my stop." Emily paused outside her brother's hospital room, turning to the man who had given her a ride. "Thank you for the save—and the coffee." Referring to the earlier incident. "And obviously the lift."
It was supposed to be her, Ruth, and Duke going out for coffee, which was why she had agreed. If it had been just her, it would have been awkward to go out with this man, especially knowing that he was her husband's known rival.
But as soon as they entered the shop on the corner, Ruth received a call. Her friend claimed it was an emergency, but she could tell something was fishy with the way her friend acted. "Can I borrow your car?" Ruth asked, but more like told her as she grabbed the key from her bag.
"But how am I..." As Emily expressed her concern, her friend interrupted her.
"I'm sure. Mr. Campbell here would be kind enough to give you a ride later." Ruth brazenly suggested, without a care if it would embarrass her.
