"This is..." Kakashi hadn't recovered when he heard a voice.
"Rin, why did you do this?"
Kakashi recognized the voice. It was his own voice from when he was young. The voice triggered a memory deep inside him.
Kakashi looked and saw two children standing face to face. One was him when he was young, and the other was Rin.
"Rin, why did you do this?"
Young Kakashi trembled, his Chidori in Rin's chest. He looked at Rin in disbelief.
"This is enough..." Blood flowed from Rin's mouth. She smiled and fell back.
"Damn it, genjutsu!" Kakashi knew it was genjutsu, but the scene still hurt him.
"I don't want to dwell on the past," Kakashi thought.
"Sharingan!" Kakashi opened his left eye, and the red Three-Tomoe Sharingan spun, breaking the illusion.
"Huff..." Kakashi squatted on the ground, breathing heavily. It wasn't that the genjutsu was hard to break, but Rin's death was a pain he couldn't forget.
"Kakashi, what's wrong?" Pakkun asked, concerned.
Kaoru stood nearby, watching Kakashi.
"I'm fine," Kakashi said, shaking his head. He stood up.
"I didn't expect to be caught in your genjutsu," Kakashi said coldly.
"I just returned the favor. You must have a painful past. You were so lost in the genjutsu," Kaoru said. "You shouldn't use genjutsu that reminds people of painful memories."
"You remind me of someone," Kakashi said. He was impressed by Kaoru's ninjutsu.
"I'm not here to fight," Kakashi said. He didn't want to fight after being reminded of his painful memories.
"I'm here to ask you about the Forest of Death," Kakashi said.
"You should have said so. We didn't need to fight," Kaoru smiled.
Kakashi glared at him and asked, "Tell me everything that happened after you entered the Forest of Death."
"Okay," Kaoru nodded. "I argued with my teammates before the second Chunin Exam, so I left the team and went ahead. Then I met other Genin and fought them..."
"With your strength, not many Genin can beat you, right?" Kakashi interrupted.
"Probably," Kaoru shrugged.
"You're confident," Kakashi said. "Then what happened?"
"I beat some Genin and met a Genin from the Hidden Mist Village. We were about to fight when a golden sword fell from the sky. Then we didn't want to fight. After the accident, you came to us."
"Is that so?" Kakashi said. "You don't mind if I check your story."
"What do you mean?" Kaoru asked.
"I'll find the Hidden Mist Village Genin and see if your stories match," Kakashi replied.
"I see..." Kaoru smiled. Kakashi was careful. The Hidden Mist Village Genin was Obito. They would meet soon.
"Of course," Kaoru said.
"Come with me," Kakashi said. "But you must obey my orders. Don't talk without my permission."
"No problem," Kaoru agreed.
"Good. Pakkun, track the Hidden Mist Village ninja named 'Kuro'," Kakashi said to Pakkun and took out a kunai, putting it in front of Pakkun's nose.
The kunai was used by Uchiha Obito. Pakkun sniffed the kunai and remembered Obito's scent.
"Good, I remember it," Pakkun said. He jumped and sniffed the air.
"I found it! The Hidden Mist Village ninja isn't in the Leaf Village, but outside the village, not far from here," Pakkun said.
"Is that so?" Kakashi frowned. "What is that Hidden Mist Village ninja doing? Let's go."
"Okay!" Pakkun nodded and ran.
"You can only follow me," Kakashi said to Kaoru and followed Pakkun.
Kaoru followed Kakashi. They ran to another place.
They arrived at a place with green grass and a stream.
"The Hidden Mist Village ninja is near the stream. Should we go find him?" Pakkun asked Kakashi.
Kakashi looked at the stream. It was where Team Minato used to meet. He used to gather there with Obito and Rin before going on missions. Everything was good then...
Now, he was the only one left in Team Minato. Minato, Obito, and Rin were gone.
"Hey, Kakashi, what's wrong?" Pakkun asked, seeing Kakashi staring.
Kaoru noticed that Kakashi was acting strange.
"Oh, nothing," Kakashi said, shaking his head. He always thought about the past. He tried to forget it and looked at Pakkun. "What did you say?"
"You weren't listening..." Pakkun said. "Should we observe him or attack?"
