Chapter 124 - Chapter 123 – This Debt Is Not So Easy to Pay Off

The current group of Hidden Rain (Amegakure) shinobi were all former subordinates of Hanzō the Salamander.

Hanzō might have lived a cowardly life in his later years, but in his youth, he was known as the Demi-God of the Shinobi World.

He even looked down on the Five Great Nations.

During the Shinobi World Wars, Amegakure—a small village—dared to launch conflicts against three major nations simultaneously, and in the end, did not lose too badly.

The shinobi trained under such a man… were not exactly the type to have good tempers.

For Midori, trying to negotiate with them through peaceful means was simply unrealistic.

The situation quickly devolved, much like what had been shown in the future video.

The Rain shinobi refused any compensation, and instead demanded their captured comrades back by force.

From their perspective, this entire mess was instigated by Kusagakure. So what was wrong with their people retaliating?

And those who had been captured? Of course, they'd be taken back.

"Do you really think Kusagakure is easy to bully?!" Midori roared, his chakra flaring violently.

Ever since arriving in Konoha, nothing had gone smoothly for him.

The rage and humiliation he had bottled up could no longer be contained.

"You honestly think you can defeat us?" The Rain leader sneered, his tone sharp and mocking. "Ridiculous. Challenging Amegakure itself is pure foolishness."

Not convinced? Then fight.

The clash broke out almost instantly.

Midori himself regretted it immediately.

He just wanted to vent his anger, so why had he actually lashed out?

Were Rain shinobi all this crazy? To fight without hesitation, even inside Konoha's territory?

He wanted to stop, but once combat began, it wasn't so simple to pull back.

If he stopped now, he might not live to regret it.

The Kusagakure shinobi behind him weren't exactly thrilled either. Why should they all be bullied?

"Damn it!"

Led by the big-sword-wielding Kusagakure jonin, a large group of Kusagakure chunin and jonin charged at the Rain shinobi.

Their numbers were overwhelming, and the Amegakure side immediately began to falter.

"You bastards! Do you want a death match with Amegakure?!" the Rain leader bellowed, unleashing a large-scale ninjutsu in fury.

Maybe he couldn't wipe out Kusagakure's entire force, but at least he could relieve the pressure on his side.

"Stop! Stop it!" Midori panicked, countering with ninjutsu of the same scale.

But it was too late.

The situation spiraled completely out of control.

The Kusagakure delegation's whole plan to come to Konoha and negotiate alliance terms was collapsing before his eyes.

Midori's mind twisted in despair. This is hell. Maybe it would be better to burn it all down and start over from zero…

The jutsu of both sides clashed violently, the shockwaves ripping apart the surrounding area.

The Rain delegation's quarters were close to other nations' accommodations, so shinobi from the other villages were also caught in the crossfire.

At first, they had only been watching from a distance, but now many were hit—and none of them had good tempers.

Very quickly, accusations spread.

"Damn Kusagakure!"

Everyone knew the root cause of this chaos was Kusagakure's numbers and presence.

Some even suspected they came here to stir up trouble deliberately.

Soon, shinobi from other villages joined in the fight, their ninjutsu filling the sky.

The battle turned into a full-on brawl.

Itsuki didn't even need to intervene, and Tsunade's strategy of "fishing in troubled waters" became unnecessary.

The fight was vicious. Ninjutsu of all kinds flew across the street, and only the prior evacuation of civilians spared Konoha from direct civilian casualties.

Rumble! Rumble!

Just as the chaos reached its peak, the ground shook violently.

Some shinobi glanced up in alarm, and their faces instantly twisted.

"Cows! So many cows!"

"Run!"

At the far end of the street, a massive herd of cattle with glowing red eyes thundered forward, raising clouds of dust as they charged.

Several screaming Kusagakure shinobi ran ahead of them, desperately trying to escape.

"Damn it, the Grass shinobi again?!" more than one cursed bitterly.

Most of those gathered here were genin preparing for the Chunin Exams.

Only a handful of jonin were present—like Baki from Sunagakure—while the rest were genin.

Against a full-on cattle stampede, they had no real options.

Worse, many were trapped mid-battle and couldn't even disengage fast enough.

The herd slammed into them like a living wall.

"What the hell is this?!"

"Why cows?! Damn Kusagakure bastards!"

The chaos was worse than any ninjutsu. In the crowded street, weaker shinobi were trampled to death instantly.

Countless more were gravely injured.

Leaders from multiple nations had no choice—they stopped their infighting and turned to deal with the rampaging cattle.

"Cows… my cows!" The ranch owner wailed in despair.

He had hidden himself when the ninja battle broke out and thought himself lucky to survive unscathed.

But now, seeing his herd turned rabid, his heart bled.

This was his livelihood—his money—being destroyed. Who was going to compensate him now?

Thankfully, Konoha's ANBU finally arrived in force.

They subdued the remaining fighters, calmed the herd, and sent the cattle back to the ranch.

After a thorough investigation, the results were brutal:

Shinobi from every nation had died.

Kusagakure was blamed by all.

Hundreds of genin were dead.

Dozens of cattle were killed, and many survivors fell ill.

Vast portions of the ranchland were ruined.

The overall losses were catastrophic, and every village now held resentment toward Kusagakure.

In the end, the verdict was clear: Kusagakure bore 70% of the blame and would cover most of the compensation, while Amegakure bore 30%.

The Rain shinobi didn't care much about money.

But for the already-declining Kusagakure, this was catastrophic.

Midori was forced to beg for loans just to cover the losses.

Meanwhile, Itsuki had already returned to his original appearance, sitting calmly on a rooftop a safe distance away.

"So," he asked casually, "you were the one who led the cows here?"

Beside him, Anko Mitarashi sat swinging her legs, chewing happily on a dango skewer.

She didn't answer directly. Instead, she smirked. "And you're the one who spiked the pasture, aren't you?"

Their eyes met. Both chuckled, saying nothing more.

"From what I see, Kusagakure's having it rough. And it's only going to get worse," Anko remarked, half-gloating.

Because the chat group had revealed the truth of Karin and her mother's suffering, nearly everyone in the group wished misfortune upon Kusagakure.

"Why waste sympathy on them?" Itsuki sneered. "They deserve everything they get."

The stampede had been nothing but a setup to throw Kusagakure into chaos and vent the anger owed to Karin and her mother.

For Karin and her mother, perhaps this incident was enough to let their grudge rest.

But for Itsuki, it wasn't nearly enough.

Kusagakure's crimes against Karin and her mother stretched across years.

Such debts could not be repaid in a single incident.

And if Itsuki hadn't intervened, Chana would already be dead, and Karin would have been dragged into hell.

This debt… was not so easy to pay off.
