To say Xu Dan wouldn't get a swelled head would be a lie.
Even when he was a top executive at a leading domestic game company before, he hadn't felt this sense of accomplishment.
A first-rate domestic company versus the world's number one game company.
The difference might not sound that huge.
But in reality, the gap was vast!
You could say that all the game companies in the world combined couldn't match the might of Nanji Game Company, the world's number one!
And all of this was brought about by a little game called King of Fighters. He knew there were even cooler, more exciting games coming!
Therefore, Nanji Game Company's future was limitless!
Be bold and predict that defeating a giant like Stark Industries isn't impossible!
Of course, besides the honor, these achievements also brought him points, which he exchanged for personal strength.
Double the success, the sense of honor was undeniable, and there was no need to hide it.
Coulson, with a grimace, drove the car to the S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters without a word.
"Please follow me, sir." After getting out of the car, Coulson professionally invited.
Xu Dan looked at the S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters building for the first time; seeing it in person felt different from the movies.
Just how many secrets are hidden inside here!
"Let's go!" he said thoughtfully.
The two of them arrived at the director's office without any trouble. Seeing Nick Fury's grim face from a distance, Xu Dan couldn't help but laugh.
"Director Fury, are you still angry? Don't be. My King of Fighters becoming a hit was inevitable; it didn't really have much to do with your promotion."
"Didn't have much to do with it?! Oh, my God! You truly are an ungrateful person!"
"That's how merchants are, aren't they?"
"Alright, the thing I hate most in my life is merchants, but now I still have to ask for your help, you merchant! God!"
Xu Dan chuckled, looking at Nick Fury; the more annoyed he was, the happier Xu Dan felt.
"Let's not waste time then, just take me there. I need to get back to work after this."
"Let's go!" Nick Fury stood up without further ado, and walked directly towards the door.
After exiting, turn right, then left…
He didn't know how many turns it took before he finally reached the control room.
The moment Xu Dan stepped inside, his eyes widened. S.H.I.E.L.D.'s facilities were far superior to the civilian ones outside. This place was easily a decade ahead!
If only he could steal some of this…
"Ahem, Mr. Xu Dan, get to work!"
Nick Fury's cough interrupted Xu Dan's thoughts.
He awkwardly abandoned the idea of stealing batteries and walked to the machines.
Although these machines were advanced, they weren't difficult to operate. In fact, they were simpler than the ones outside.
"First, check your firewall."
Xu Dan began his god-like operation, his fingers flying across the optical keyboard. Code streamed across the screen as he typed furiously.
To be honest, this optical keyboard was a huge difference from the electrostatic capacitive keyboard he was used to. As a programmer, he was very picky about keyboards. Mechanical keyboards were too hard on his fingers, and this optical keyboard felt like typing on a brick, incredibly stiff.
Neither was comfortable to use!
However, his terrifying muscle memory still allowed him to flawlessly type out countless lines of code.
Soon, he created a simple icon on the desktop.
"What are you doing?" Nick Fury frowned. He had seen super hackers at work before. It was nothing more than a black screen with strings of English characters scrolling by.
But Xu Dan had finished typing the code and then created an icon on the desktop. What was he trying to do?
Hearing this, Xu Dan didn't even turn his head, explaining, "Oh, this is my go-to detection software. I developed it myself. It can detect and lock down all viruses without a trace, freeze all vulnerabilities, and so on and so forth. Basically, it has every function you can think of, and even ones you can't! It should be at least ten times more efficient than your usual detection methods."
Hearing such an exaggerated tone, Coulson, with a long face, quietly leaned in closer.
He whispered, "What's the price?"
"Huh? S.H.I.E.L.D. wants this? I don't think so!"
"Just say it! Name your price!"
"Oh, this is personal. It's not for sale."
Nick Fury felt as though he'd eaten something unpleasant. Suddenly, he glanced at the computer screen and sneered in his heart, "Heh, all your operations are recorded. I'll just copy your program later!"
"Director Fury, you're a smart man. You're not thinking of using outdated methods to steal my software, are you? That's really... stupid!"
"..."
Nick Fury was speechless. It was like a cold slap across the face!
If it were anyone else, this approach might have worked. But this was Xu Dan.
The man who was like an electronic ghost.
Two minutes later.
"Whew, the scan is complete. You could say it's flawless, or that it's riddled with holes. But I've fixed everything for you, right?" Xu Dan suddenly said.
The biggest vulnerability in S.H.I.E.L.D.'s system was the login portals for their higher-ups.
To put it bluntly, it was because there were Hydra agents, traitors, within S.H.I.E.L.D.'s ranks!
And his methods were like a cement worker plastering a wall—one swipe and everything was gone!
"Well done."
Nick Fury's gaze was unreadable, and it was impossible to tell what the old agent was thinking.
Or perhaps he had already guessed something?
Xu Dan set those doubts aside for the moment. Repairing the firewall was just a small task.
The S.H.I.E.L.D. director's main mission for him was to find the short-lived fool who dared to attack S.H.I.E.L.D.!
This was a matter of both dignity and classified information.
He closed and cleaned up his own software before searching for the attack logs on the supercomputer.
The most recent attack was recorded just fifty minutes ago.
Just looking at the information fed back by S.H.I.E.L.D.'s own counterattack program, it was clear that the opponent had seized a large number of botnets.
This was a basic operation for hackers. In a battle between hackers, whoever exposed their location first, lost!
But now, Xu Dan's location had been in the open from the very beginning. No matter what, the opponent would know that this was a counterattack from S.H.I.E.L.D.!
What the opponent needed to do was temporarily stay away from all electronic network devices. Going head-to-head with S.H.I.E.L.D. was out of the question!
However, who was Xu Dan?
Why was he, at such a young age, considered a chief engineer, a position usually only attainable by those in their forties or fifties?
And, could the god-level programming technology given by the system really only be used for programming?
Things are dead, but people are alive!
Just as Nick Fury put it, he's an 'electronic ghost'!
