Chapter 35: Arrival
Doflamingo, who was in the middle of engaging the Marines, was confused when he saw Vergo approaching.
Vergo knelt in the snow, his voice low. "Doffy. Corazon is a Marine spy... The brat... he's already eaten the Op-Op Fruit."
The air froze solid.
A slow, grotesque smile spread across Doflamingo's face. "My dear brother... betrayed me?"
The blizzard on Minion Island was instantly shredded by invisible strings.
Doflamingo stood in the center of the ruined town, his pink feather coat flapping wildly in the wind. Countless, near-transparent strings erupted from his fingertips, sealing the entire island in his "Birdcage."
"Fufufufufu... What an unpleasant evening."
His laugh was colder than the ice, his eyes behind his sunglasses constricting in pure rage.
"BOOM!!!"
His Conqueror's Haki exploded like a thunderclap! The glass in the surrounding buildings shattered, and the ruins were pulverized.
"Kill him."
"And bring... me... that BRAT!"
Deep in the snow.
Law was carrying the dying Rosinante, blood dripping from his own fingers, staining the snow red.
He stumbled, the sounds of the battle echoing behind him.
"Law... put me down." Rosinante's voice was weak, but final.
"No! We have to escape!" Law gritted his teeth, tears welling in his eyes.
Rosinante patted his shoulder, that familiar, goofy smile on his pale face. "Idiot, listen... My brother... he might not kill me right away. But he will kill you."
He pointed to a half-buried, abandoned treasure chest. "Hide in there. I'll use my 'magic' so they can't find you."
"No! We go together!"
"That's an order!"
Rosinante's voice was suddenly sharp. He activated his Calm-Calm Fruit, and a silent barrier pushed Law into the chest, closing the lid without a sound.
"Remember... no matter what you hear... don't make a sound."
Doflamingo's figure slowly approached, his aura like a blade.
"Corazon..." His voice was a low growl, filled with a killing intent that couldn't be contained. "Ten years... You must have had a lot of fun, playing the mute, hmm?"
Rosinante leaned against a broken wall, still wearing that same goofy smile, his blond hair matted with blood. "It's... been a while, brother."
Doflamingo's fingers twitched, his strings glinting. "The fruit?"
Rosinante looked up, unafraid. "The kid already ate it. He's escaped your Birdcage."
"Fufufu... FUFUFUFU!" Doflamingo's laugh twisted into a roar, his eyes bloodshot. "Stop trying to trick me with such pathetic lies!"
His strings shot out, violently piercing Rosinante's shoulders.
"Gah!"
Blood blossomed in the snow.
Inside the chest, Law bit his lip so hard it bled, tears streaming down his face, fighting to stay silent.
Doflamingo walked closer, slowly raising his pistol, the cold barrel aimed at Rosinante's forehead. "Last chance... where is the brat?"
Rosinante slowly looked up, his eyes shining with tears, but he was still smiling. "He's free... brother."
"BANG!"
Just as his finger pulled the trigger, space itself twisted.
"FWOOSH!!!"
A tall figure appeared from thin air, a white Marine coat snapping in the blizzard. An Armament Haki-coated hand had caught the bullet.
"ROY!!!"
Doflamingo's pupils shrank to pinpricks. He leaped back, his voice a strained growl. "Roy... what are you doing here?!"
His hand was trembling. This was the "Monster" Rear Admiral who had fought Shanks to a standstill!
Roy didn't even look at the fuming Doflamingo. He glanced at the critically injured Rosinante. "You did well. I'll take it from here."
Rosinante's eyes widened, and then he let out a relieved laugh. "Ah... a reliable guy... finally shows up..."
"Fufufu... You think you can escape my grasp?"
Doflamingo, enraged at being ignored, sneered as his Birdcage began to shrink, its threads glinting like a reaper's scythe.
"This entire island is my prison!" Doflamingo cackled, spreading his arms.
In response, Roy just... flicked his fingers.
"FWOOSH!"
Space distorted. Roy, Rosinante, and the treasure chest containing Law vanished.
The Birdcage snapped shut on... nothing.
"What?!"
Doflamingo's smile froze. His Observation Haki flared, but he couldn't feel them!
"He... his warp... it completely ignored the Birdcage?!"
His heart pounded, but he was also secretly relieved. "Fine, let the monster run... A real fight with him... would be..."
"Thinking about something, little flamingo?"
A taunting voice whispered, right in his ear.
Doflamingo's blood ran cold. He spun around.
Roy was standing right there, as if he'd never left, his white coat snapping in the wind.
"I just dropped them off somewhere safe."
His voice was flat, his eyes as cold as the polar ice.
"Now... it's our turn to settle the bill."
"Fufu... FUFUFUFU!! Interesting!"
"Bullet String!"
Five Haki-coated strings shot at Roy.
"FWOOSH!"
Roy vanished, the strings hitting only an afterimage.
"Behind you."
The cold voice came from his nightmares.
BAM!
An Armament-Haki-coated fist smashed into Doflamingo's back, sending him flying like a cannonball through three buildings.
"Kaff... Damn you..." Doflamingo staggered up, blood dripping from his mouth, his eyes dark with rage. "Overheat!"
A massive, thick rope of string tore through the town, leveling everything in its path.
Roy just raised his fist and punched it.
"BOOM!"
The "Overheat" string shattered into dust.
Doflamingo's eyes widened. "My normal attacks... are useless!"
He grinned, spreading his arms as the ground began to change. "Awakening: Ever White!"
The entire island turned into a raging sea of white, razor-sharp strings, all lunging at Roy.
"FWOOSH! FWOOSH! FWOOSH!"
Roy warped, dodging, weaving through the storm of strings, closing the distance.
"It's useless! Inside my cage, you have nowhere to run!" Doflamingo laughed.
"Is that so?" Roy smiled, his eyes flashing.
"Rokushiki Ogi: Instant Hell-Collapse!"
"BOOM!!!"
In an instant, dozens of afterimages of Roy appeared, attacking Doflamingo from every conceivable angle at once!
Each punch was coated in devastating Haki, tearing black fissures in the air!
"What?!"
Doflamingo tried to defend, but the fists broke through his string shield, smashing into him from all sides. He was blasted backward, blood erupting from his mouth.
"Fuf... Fufufufu...!!" He staggered, his laugh now strained.
"Monster... you really are a monster, Roy!!"
