D felt overly full. At the student union's food court he'd filled up on just about everything they had. Burgers, chicken, pasta, turns out students eat for free there but there is a limit of three meals a day. D figured there were some perks to this place after all.
The trio had made the walk back to their dormitory without Val since she and Nashoba had to get the new member sign-ins to the staff head of all the clubs on campus before the end of the day. The three entered their room and all individually flopped onto their beds, all full from their food-court feast.
After a few moments of silence Roxanne flipped over onto her back and raised her arm to display the holographic screen of her V-band and looked over her class schedule a bit before asking "So what classes did you guys get sorted into?"
D just groaned face first into his bed before rolling over, which felt like a herculean task with how much he'd eaten that day. He flipped his V-band on and scrolled till he found the class section. "How do i send this to you again? I don't know where the thing is." He asked sticking out his arm to Roxanne.
She sighed and rolled off her bed and walked over to D's bed and grabbed his arm a bit too firmly and looked at his screen. her fingers flew across it like she was the owner of the device, as she took a look at his schedule. "Hmm it looks like you've got a class with me on Friday's and a class with Max on Mondays."
"I thought we all had the same classes, How come we don't have class together all of the days?" D asked.
"One, because that would be much MUCH too much time spent together, and mainly two, it's because while we do have the same classes we have different class sections." She said as she held her own screen and pointed to the section number on her screen.
"oh that makes sense I guess." D said sheepishly.
Roxanne walked back over to her side of the room and began rummaging through her closet, no doubt picking out the perfect outfits for the next couple of days before classes began.
"You really packed all of those clothes?" D got off his bed and waltzed over to her closet brimming with fabrics and specifically hung outfits. Majority of her clothes occupied the same color spectrum as her hair, black and red. There were a few outliers though a special green dress had caught his eye out of the selection she had.
"Uh duh, I am not dressing myself with those crimes against humanity they have at the student shop." She said as she stepped in between D and her closet shooing him away back to his side of the room. "It's already bad enough I have to wear the student uniform during classes like everyone else, but i suppose school girl chic is in right now."
D looked over at his closet with a sense of exasperation. Figuring that since all of his clothes most likely came from the student shop, he would be wearing the 'crimes against humanity' she'd been talking about. He shook his head in a way to clear his mind and return back to the task at hand, The Thorn Trials.
"Are you both seriously going to go through the trials with me?" He sat back up onto his bed and looked at both his roommates at once. "I know we all want to get on the Villain track but..."
"There is no way you're seriously trying to tell us off about how dangerous it'll be, when you don't even know." Roxanne said in her trademark snarky demeanor.
"I know it'll be really dangerous, and that you both don't need to do it." D said, his brow twitching with rising anxiety. "I'm certain there are plenty of nice jobs you can do on the Hench track y'know."
Max sat up, and finally chimed in on the conversation. "Well what if we had something that could make it less dangerous?"
"What?" D and Roxanne said in unison.
Max took his hand a plunged it deep into the pocket of his black denim jeans, rummaging around in it till he pulled out a red glowing vial of liquid. He held it up to the light and watched it as it swam around inside the glass.
"This can be our ticket through the Thorn Trials, it's easy peasy as you Americans like to say" He just held the vial in his hand for both of his friends to see.
"What the hell is that?" D asked as he squinted at the small vial, unsure if he was looking at a serum or food coloring.
"You seriously don't know what surge is?" Roxanne said, looking at him with exasperation. "Why am i not surprised, you seem to not know anything about the outside world."
"So what? I was homeschooled, its not my fault I don't know every single red liquid someone pulls out of their pocket." D said while defensively crossing his arms. "Seriously though what is it?" He said shrugging
"Basically a power steroid, It can increase the power of an I level supe, all the way to an III level. Its seriously bad stuff." She said, also crossing her arms.
"Don't tell me you're a...a what's the word Izzy used? oh yeah a narc!" Max laughed as he played with the vial of liquid in his hand. The red ooze almost seemed alive the way it swam around inside the glass.
"I'm honestly surprised you'd even have something like that Max, though I guess it is unregulated in Europe so it makes sense." She said as she threw herself up onto her bed. "I won't tell you how to live your life, but you both should seriously stay away from surge."
"Lets say, hypothetically we wanted to take it Max." D said as he slid off his bed and walked over to Max's side of the room. "How do you take it?"
"Oh that's easy, you just pop open the vial." Max said as he popped off the metallic lid to the glass vial. "and you just put a bit on your fingers and eat it, its like candy." He pretended to put his finger into the vial, but really placed the lid back onto the red and black sludge.
"I'll think about it man, seems a little sketchy but-" A flash from outside the window went off and all three of them whipped their heads to the window where they saw a drone with a camera on top of it.
Roxanne being the closest to the window immediately ran to it and she couldn't believe what she saw.
Once the drone realized it'd been spotted it immediately flew back down to the ground to a ginger haired boy with hair covering his eyes. He grabbed the drone out of mid air and began running in the opposite direction of the hall.
"Oh my god, oh my god!" She began freaking out at the idea that people were going to see that she had a drug like surge in her room because the two idiots she lived with.
"We've gotta stop whoever the hell that is!" She said as she put one leg on the window sill and jumped right out of the window
