Jasmin's POV
"Did I just imagine that?" I murmured to Heather, my pulse racing as I peered into the black void between the trees.
Heather's voice trembled with uncertainty. "Anyone who spotted us would have raised hell immediately."
She was right. The Alphas at Wolfborne Academy despised me with every fiber of their being. If they'd caught sight of me here, they would have screamed bloody murder without a second thought. But silence stretched around us like a blanket.
"Maybe it was just some forest creature?" I suggested.
Heather's tension eased slightly. "Most likely. I didn't pick up any werewolf scent. Besides, we've been so paranoid about getting caught that our minds might be playing tricks on us."
A wave of relief washed over me. I let out a shaky breath and turned my attention back to the massive bison grazing in the moonlit clearing.
Thank the Goddess I'd stayed hidden deep in the tree line, far enough that the beast hadn't detected my presence.
