Maybe the Goddess took my challenge too literally when I wondered how much worse everything could become. Four revolting werewolves pursued me through the forest, their savage growls cutting through the night like harbingers of death.
What made it infinitely worse was Harris witnessing my predicament. But that concern paled beside the enormous silhouette blocking my path ahead. A majestic black wolf dominated the clearing, sculpted from pure midnight shadows, crimson blood staining his jaws. A tiger's lifeless form sprawled beneath his massive paws.
My pulse stuttered when our gazes collided.
The world stopped breathing. Every sound died.
He remained motionless, yet he observed me. Truly observed me.
Why was Max in these woods?
He must have detected I was female. He surely recognized my presence violated every law of these lethal hunting grounds. That I was forbidden territory. Had he deduced my true identity?
