Chapter 21 - Chapter 21: The Lion Enters King's Landing

"You say you are a friend of Varys?" Illyrio asked.

"That's right. All his Little Birds are now my people, living in the North Sea Kindergarten that I established," Mufasa said.

"North Sea Kindergarten... is it located somewhere far north?"

"It's just outside King's Landing. Now, let's end this unproductive conversation. Lord Magister, could you take us into the city?" Mufasa asked.

Illyrio glanced at the people behind Mufasa: Lannister soldiers and Unsullied.

He was familiar with the Unsullied; many magisters and princes employed them as guards. They were the finest bodyguards available.

Illyrio led Mufasa and his company to his own manse.

Once inside, he informed Mufasa:

"The West Wing is reserved for other distinguished guests, so please do not disturb them. You may stay here until the Pentos ceremony concludes, then you can depart. During your stay, I must ask you to restrain your men. I have no concerns about the Unsullied, but your lions must not eat anyone."

Mufasa nodded.

He instructed Podrick to assign rooms to the members of the Lionheart Society and the Unsullied. Once this was done, he decided to project his consciousness into a small cat to see if the Targaryen siblings were residing in the West Wing.

Mufasa lay down on the bed and projected his consciousness into an orange tabby cat resting on the roof. Instantly, the cat's pupils shifted, imbued with a hint of human intelligence.

Mufasa controlled the tabby as it leaped off the eaves and darted toward the West Wing.

Maidservants were bustling in and out of the West Wing, each carrying a large bucket of hot water.

Mufasa leaped through the window and saw a massive bath filled with scattered flowers. Amidst the rising steam, a hazy figure was soaking in the water.

"Meow!" Mufasa couldn't help but utter in surprise.

"Is that Daenerys?"

Seemingly alerted by the meow, a silver-haired, purple-eyed girl rose from the water and looked toward the window, where she spotted the orange tabby, Mufasa.

"Kitty, come here!"

Daenerys sighed in relief. She had thought it was an assassin.

Viserys often told her that Robert would send assassins after them.

Mufasa cautiously walked along the edge of the bath. Cats fear water, and he certainly couldn't control the tabby to jump in, especially not water this hot.

Water this scalding would peel the skin off Viserys, but Daenerys, being resistant to fire and high temperatures, could withstand it.

Mufasa walked directly in front of Daenerys, observing her pure and youthful face.

"She must be thirteen or fourteen, but she's developed quickly," Mufasa thought, subtly glancing at Daenerys's chest.

She swam closer and scooped Mufasa up in a tight embrace.

Mufasa froze, attempting to struggle free, only to realize he was trapped in her grip.

"Kitty, where is your family? Are you homeless, just like me?"

Daenerys held Mufasa, lifting him above her head as she spoke.

"Meow! Meow!" the tabby responded.

"I still have a brother. When we were little, he was kind to me, but since we grew up, he hits me often. Especially when he's asleep, I dare not wake him, for fear of rousing the sleeping dragon's rage."

Daenerys spoke, filled with sorrow.

She continued to pour out her heart to the cat for a long time, until the bathwater had grown completely cold.

Only then did Mufasa finally escape her clutches.

"Are you leaving? I hear cats are always so mysterious—coming and going without a trace. If only I could be like you," Daenerys said, looking at the tabby perched on the windowsill.

Mufasa turned back and looked at her one last time. Then, under her astonished gaze, he dipped his paw in the water and scrawled a few words onto the stone floor.

"Dragon egg, Blood and Fire, Rebirth from Fire."

Mufasa leaped down from the window and returned to his own courtyard. His consciousness then returned to his own body.

"I hope this helps Daenerys awaken her dragons sooner!"

Daenerys Targaryen stared at the words scrawled by the cat's paw.

"What exactly was that? Just a tabby, or some kind of incarnation? Is he warning me that I will receive dragon eggs in the future, and that I must use blood and fire to waken the dragons?"

She made many guesses, but these possibilities still felt distant and unreal.

After Mufasa stayed at Illyrio's manse for several days, the Pentos ceremony finally concluded.

Mufasa was ready to return to King's Landing. Before departing, he first began collecting the Lionheart Society uniforms and banners.

"Ser, these uniforms and banners are so fine, why not just let us keep them?" Podrick asked.

He had grown fond of his identity in the Lionheart Society. Since joining, he seemed fundamentally transformed.

The other Lannister soldiers also strongly requested to keep their Lionheart Society uniforms and sigils.

"Since you all wish to keep them, then keep them," Mufasa finally conceded, not collecting their uniforms or sigils.

"It seems your first core group has succeeded, Ser Mufasa!" Melisandre said, standing behind him and watching the less than one hundred Lannister soldiers cheering excitedly.

"It's not enough. I want more than this," Mufasa replied, a smile playing on his lips. He gazed across the sea toward Westeros, toward King's Landing.

The massive ship sailed through the wind and waves, and after ten days, finally arrived in Blackwater Bay from Pentos.

Mufasa did not suffer from seasickness this time. Since his spiritual strength had increased, his resistance to various negative mental effects had also improved.

"It seems higher stats have their benefits, all sorts of benefits," Mufasa mused.

After landing, they prepared to enter through the Lion Gate. As Mufasa, riding the colossal white lion Heraca, approached the gate, he saw guards dressed in red cloaks.

King's Landing was now heavily infiltrated by the Lannisters. Some of the City Watch had been replaced, switching from the traditional Gold Cloaks to Lannister Red Cloaks.

The Red Cloaks quickly moved to intercept the man riding the massive white lion.

"This is King's Landing, not a circus. Furthermore, the Hand of the King died last night, and we have not invited any performing troupes."

"We ask that you return the way you came."

The Red Cloaks were even stricter than the Gold Cloaks, likely a result of Tywin's influence.

"How dare you! Do you know who this is? This is Ser Mufasa, the eldest grandson of Lord Tywin Lannister!"

A member of the Lionheart Society stepped forward and announced.

"You... you're Charles!"

The Red Cloak seemed to recognize his former friend.

"I am Charles, Charles of the glorious and noble Lionheart Society," the member declared. He was a typical Lannister, with golden hair and emerald eyes, and spoke with considerable arrogance.

"My apologies, Ser Mufasa! I didn't recognize you!"

"It's alright. After all, I have been away from King's Landing for a year," Mufasa replied.

He had changed significantly in the past year; his height, weight, and appearance were all notably different. Furthermore, he was wearing high-quality silk gifted by the Meereenese, which was very breathable. It was still the long summer, and with King's Landing being so crowded, wearing heavy clothes would have been unbearable.

"You just said the Hand died! Was it Jon Arryn?"

"Yes, he died suddenly yesterday; it happened very fast. It seemed to be some kind of fever. Grand Maester Pycelle personally attended to him."

Mufasa lowered his gaze, thinking that Littlefinger and his associates seemed to have acted too quickly.

"Is Lord Stannis still in King's Landing?" Mufasa asked, deeply concerned about this point.

"He is."

"It seems he hasn't left yet! But will he remain here once he learns that Robert's next Hand won't be him?"

Mufasa then rode Heraca into King's Landing. People on the streets quickly cleared a path for him. The low roar of the lion echoed, causing a stir among those still within the Red Keep.

"Where is that lion's roar coming from? Didn't I forbid any circuses from entering the city recently?" Robert grumbled, displeased.

"Jaime, go see what the trouble is and apprehend the culprit!"

The White Knight, Jaime Lannister, gave a slight nod. He bowed to Robert and departed from the Red Keep.

Mufasa rode the white lion directly toward the royal apartments. The maidservants scattered in fear upon seeing Heraca, though a few recognized Mufasa sitting atop the lion.

"That's Ser Mufasa! He actually tamed such a huge lion; he is incredibly brave!"

"He's the Queen's nephew! I heard he isn't engaged yet—I wish I could marry him!"

"Don't be foolish. With his status, he'll have to marry the daughter of a high lord. We servants wouldn't stand a chance."

Hearing the lion's roar near the royal apartments, Jaime Lannister rushed over with a contingent of Red Cloaks, only to find Mufasa.

"Mufasa, you're back!" Jaime said, a smile spreading across his face.
