The moment he heard the security guards shouting, Daniel thought he had been exposed.
However, the footsteps didn't move toward his location but instead rushed toward the other side of the building.
It seemed someone else had broken in as well.
"Another expert?"
Daniel was slightly surprised, but the current chaos worked perfectly in his favor.
With most of the security forces drawn away, he walked openly toward the target office, pulled out his master key, and unlocked the door again.
He swept his gaze across the room and quickly locked onto a seemingly ordinary painting on the wall.
In his vision, the edge of the painting emitted a faint white glow—the standard interactive marker for a quest mechanism.
"I love games that don't require thinking."
Daniel stepped forward to inspect the painting.
Sure enough, he soon discovered a hidden compartment behind it, with a small safe embedded inside.
Using the master key, he opened the safe. Inside were several notebooks—legitimate ones, of course.
Quest items acquired with ease.
Daniel stuffed all the ledgers into his in-game inventory and turned to leave.
Just then, footsteps approached the office door.
Following the sound, Daniel looked over and saw a familiar red figure standing in the hallway—the man in the Daredevil suit, Matt.
"Well, if it isn't Lawyer Matt. Long time no see. You out for a late-night stroll too?" Daniel said casually.
Matt: "…"
Who would come to a place like this for a stroll in the middle of the night?
Matt clearly hadn't expected to run into Daniel again, and his expression immediately tightened.
He took a deep breath and said solemnly, "Hand over the ledgers you just took. They're important evidence of the Hand's criminal activities. I can't let you leave with them."
"Ever heard of 'first come, first served'?"
Daniel clicked his tongue. "Besides, even putting that aside—what's a blind guy doing with ledgers anyway? You can't read what's in them, can you?"
"I can." Matt nodded.
Daniel didn't believe him. He pulled out a pen from his inventory and scribbled a few words on his palm.
"Alright, then tell me what I wrote."
"I don't know."
"There you go. And you say you can read."
"What you wrote is exactly: 'I don't know.'"
Matt sounded exasperated.
This guy's brain must have a loose wire.
Daniel was shocked. Matt's sensory ability was way too overpowered—he could even "see" written text?
Suspicious, Daniel narrowed his eyes. "Lawyer Matt, are you actually blind or pretending? Don't tell me you're one of those perverts who fake blindness to teach piano while secretly spying on girls changing clothes?"
Why did it escalate to perversion again?
Matt's lips twitched. "Can you hand over the ledgers now? The police need this evidence."
"Nope."
Daniel refused instantly. "Letting the police handle it is such a hassle—too much paperwork. Better to hand it over to us at S.H.I.E.L.D. Professional team. High efficiency."
"S.H.I.E.L.D….?"
Matt searched his memory and found no record of any official agency by that name.
Judging by Daniel's behavior, whatever S.H.I.E.L.D. was, it clearly wasn't a legitimate organization either.
He was just about to argue back—
Suddenly, his keen ears detected a minute disturbance.
A moment later, more than a dozen figures in black ninja armor emerged silently from the shadows, appearing at every corner of the hallway. Daniel and Matt were instantly surrounded.
"It's you again, Daredevil! You've interfered with the Hand too many times. Tonight, you die!"
The red-clad ninja at the front spoke with icy hostility.
Without warning, he flicked his wrist and several shurikens shot straight toward Matt!
Matt reacted instantly, performing a difficult sideways flip to dodge the attack.
The red ninja didn't hesitate. He drew a katana from his back and charged Matt with a roar.
In an instant, the two clashed fiercely, blades and blows ringing through the corridor.
Meanwhile, several black-clad ninjas armed with katanas surrounded Daniel as well.
Their grip on their blades was steady, their gazes sharp—clearly trained swordsmen.
Daniel pulled out a watermelon knife with his left hand, voice cold. "Don't blame me for not warning you. I know martial arts."
The ninjas remained expressionless, ignoring his words.
They moved in a blur, attacking from multiple angles at once. Several cold arcs of steel cut toward Daniel's vital points.
Against such a coordinated assault, even a martial arts master would fall—
Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!
Gunshots rang out, and four ninjas dropped instantly.
Daniel blew the smoke from his gun barrel and shook his head. "I warned you."
The remaining ninjas froze for a moment.
This was what he called martial arts!?
Yet despite their shock, their eyes showed no fear. They charged at him again, blades raised high.
Unfortunately for them, no matter how fast they were, they were not faster than Daniel's "American Iaido".
Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang—
The golden Desert Eagle spat fire, and the trained swordsmen were eliminated instantly.
Within seconds, only the red-clad ninja fighting Matt was still standing.
He glanced at the pile of his fallen allies around Daniel and fury flashed in his eyes.
"Bakayaro! I'll make you shinee shinee!"
With a shout in his native tongue, he abruptly abandoned Matt and dashed toward Daniel with terrifying speed, katana raised.
Bang!
Daniel fired immediately.
But the red ninja twisted his wrist and swung his blade, deflecting the bullet with the katana's flat edge.
Daniel was surprised for a moment but didn't fire again.
Instead, he tightened his grip on the watermelon knife as the red ninja closed in.
"Shinee!!"
The red ninja raised his katana overhead with both hands and slashed down with all his strength.
Just before the blade landed, Daniel lifted his watermelon knife.
"Parry!"
Clang—!
Steel met steel, ringing sharply through the corridor.
The red ninja felt a tremendous force surge up through the hilt, knocking him off balance. He staggered backward, and his body suddenly stiffened, frozen in a strange paralyzed state.
"Nani!?"
His eyes widened in disbelief.
Before he could recover, a flash of cold steel swept past.
The watermelon knife cleaved his head clean off.
Matt opened his mouth to stop him, but it was too late.
"You're killing people again."
Matt's voice was heavy, his expression dark.
Daniel shot him a disdainful look. "It's called self-defense. Do you even know the law, Mr. Lawyer?"
Matt: "…"
After finishing off the red ninja, Daniel saw yet another wave of masked swordsmen rushing in from the far end of the hallway.
He immediately stepped in front of Matt protectively.
"Lawyer Matt, there are too many of them. In a moment, follow my lead—we split up and run!"
Matt: "?"
Before Matt could react, Daniel gave him a meaningful look—
Then turned around and bolted at full speed.
He had given the signal.
Whether Matt could see it or not was none of his concern.
