The trees swooshed and danced in the windy, gloomy morning. The sky was dark, as if a storm was about to happen, but the children were busy playing and didn't care about their surroundings.
"Tag, you're it!" the little girl shouted as she tagged another girl, and everyone ran away from her. The little girl laughed when she noticed one girl standing still, fixing her clothes. She ran toward her, and just as she was about to touch her, a boy grabbed the girl's hand and ran away with her, escaping the tagger together.
After a minute, the tagger grew tired and quit the game. The other kids laughed while catching their breath, while the girl who had been grabbed by the boy remained shocked, as if she were lost in her own world.
"Are you okay?" the boy asked, observing her face. She blinked and looked like she had returned to reality.
"I'm okay."
She looked at him, and he smiled at her, causing her to blush and quickly look away.
"I'm gonna go home now. You should too, it's getting late," he said, waving goodbye before walking away.
She smiled and watched him and her other friends go to their houses. Then she went home and thought about what had happened all night until she finally fell asleep.
END OF FLASHBACK
I wiped away my falling tears and wore my control gloves to stop my powers from getting out of control. I stood on the railings of the rooftop and looked down, seeing the city in chaos, fire consuming every building. Blood was everywhere on the dirty, ashy ground, and yet I heard no screams anymore.
I could smell burning bodies, burning trees, everything within my sight.
What happened?11 months ago, we were just in school, having fun with my friends…
Four months ago, everything was fine, and I was so stupid for only realizing now that he was the man from my childhood, but it doesn't matter anymore.
I looked up at the calming yellow sunset sky. The clouds looked like sea waves, adding to the mesmerizing view above, yet down here there was chaos, death, and sorrow.
