Chapter 16 - Devlinham Round Two

Devlinham Academy sported an all green outfit with an epic looking tree for an emblem. The academy was known to have the most nature beast masters and their team make up was different than most. They, for one, had two water/ice users at range which already was completely different from the six melee users we just faced in round one.

Both of the water users also were different birds that were flying high in the air causing our focus to be on different levels for the first time. In fact all of their beasts could fly and were doing so making the entire fight drastically different. They had an earth wyvern for a tank who was much larger than Dante and could fly, Dante's wings were too small still to lift him off the ground. This nature wyvern had an earthwall he would spit out and cause all sorts of issues for us either blocking killing blows or just interrupting our attacks in general.

They had a large stork who seemed to be the healer as it radiated a green aura as it flew and then directed its aura to someone that was just hit. For instance Joey's sais cut the cheek of the stork's beast master and the stork sent down the green aura that enveloped the beast master and the cut instantly closed up. Only blood was visible on the beast master's face and was no longer gushing.

They had a swift phoenix that was blasting fireballs at us from above but Wispy was blocking all its attacks as Wispy was specifically following the phoenix having identified it as the biggest threat. Each fireball would be fired out of its mouth and it would go about 5 yards before running into a barrier that Wispy deployed in its path. This was frustrating the phoenix and suddenly a couple fireballs were fired at me from the phoenix's beast master.

The next thing I knew lots of attacks were sent at me and Wispy blocked all of them before I could put it all together. The constant bombardment was starting to take its toll on me as I could feel the mana depleting for the first time in a battle for me. Wispy was amazing, blocking attacks from six different beasts and six different beast masters was talked about for years to come. The scene was wild if you had a different perspective than myself. All I saw was an intense color display in front of my eyes as explosions of different attacks went off 5 yards away from me as if there was an invisible barrier preventing anything from passing that mark.

"HELP!" Is all I could yell as it was beyond crazy and I could feel my mana depleting by the moment, I really had no idea how much longer Wispy could go as I could feel exhaustion setting in. Easily the strangest feeling of my life, as if I had just ran a marathon but was standing still the entire time. My lungs were on fire, it felt like the world was a million pounds crushing my body as Wispy desperately defended us. I closed my eyes trying to fight for consciousness when I heard "Victory! Arcanum from Ghostrun Academy!".

I opened my eyes feeling like they were two massive boulders that I had to lift first before they could be opened. As the scene came to focus in my eyes I could see all six of our opponents standing out of the arena huffing and puffing. They were all staring at me with both shock and awe in their faces.

"I LOVE YOU WISPY!" Maddy shouted at the top of her lungs.

"Yeah, Wispy rules!" Travis blurted out as well.

"Wispy! Wispy! Wispy!" Joey started chanting while looking at the crowd to get them to start chanting Wispy as everyone had been silent still in shock at what happened. There was no rush of noise when we won, it was silence. Apparently what Wispy did was completely unheard of, I personally can't take any credit for what happened.

The whole Wispy chant didn't really take but the announcer finally came on to announce the next fight. This broke a bunch of people out of their trance and suddenly cheers broke out among the crowd. Instead of Wispy, Arcanum was chanted, bringing a smile to all our faces as we departed the arena fighting grounds. We all walked together to our room below to discuss what happened. I for one still wasn't sure what happened and wanted to get the whole details from everyone since I couldn't see anything when my eyes were open at the end nonetheless had closed them to help sustain Wispy's spells.

I for one wanted to go to the cafeteria again as I was famished from using the amount of mana. Travis tossed me an energy bar he had in his belongings when we entered the room. I then remembered my mother's gift and pulled out the flask from my dimensional storage and gulped it down. The combination of Travis' bar and the mana infused liquid I felt instantly better.

"I can tell you're hungry, anyone would be if they used that much mana in such a short time. Plus I have no other way to thank Wispy. You might become the most famous wisp beast master ever just from that fight alone." Travis explained while tossing me the bar.

Adam then explained what happened as he knew I was eagerly wanting to know. The Devlinham beast masters had all focused on me when everyone else took advantage of them focusing on me. Adam and Dante were able to blink to the furthest beast master and work back to me as Joey and Abby took the ones closest to me out. Po and Lacy had taken out two of them while Joey and Abby had taken out two so Adam had taken out the other two.

Maddy explained that she also was sending me a life mend spell once she saw everyone start attacking me. She didn't know if it would help but it made sense to her. I told her I felt it and was pretty positive it helped a lot, Wispy chimed in my head that it did so I relayed that to her.

"If Wispy appreciates it then I call it a win, Wispy is the best!" Maddy exclaimed completely enthralled with my beast. We continued to chat for another minute when there was a knock at the door. Maddy went to open it and then exclaimed "Uncle!" as Abby's father entered the room. Adam once again dropped to a knee which Travis and Joey did the same seeing Adam do it. I hesitated at first then dropped to a knee as well, unsure of what was happening.

"Stand, please, Adam stop kneeling in front of me, that is an order!" The prince commanded Adam who was now slightly red in the face embarrassed for causing a scene.

"I wanted to come and congratulate you guys and also wanted to come talk to you, Jordan." The prince informed us. I was taken back to say the least, Maddy and Abby grabbed the boys and took them outside knowing that the prince wanted to speak alone by that phrasing. I looked at them as they left, Joey and Travis gave me looks of "go get him!" and Adam had the look of "I hope you are ok".

"First, what an impressive display of combat, I have to ask was that you or the beast or both?" Prince Austin asked me.

"I wish I could take credit, it was all Wispy my beast sir." I tried my best to be respectful as it was not a natural thing for me or it didn't feel natural currently. Wispy appeared at that moment as if looking for approval from the prince. The middle aged man gave Wispy a warm smile then looked back at me.

"You seem to be close to my niece Madeline?" The question was blunt and his voice had changed to a deeper tone.

"I adore her sir, she is an amazing friend to have and one day I hope she likes me as much as I do her." I gave my best honest answer, to lie right now felt wrong and also dangerous.

The prince gave me the same warm smile he just gave Wispy and then he pulled out of his belt's dimensional space a box. The box was basically a foot squared and when he handed it to me it shifted in weight as it appeared there were many objects inside. Opening the box I was shocked to see magical gems of all seven elements glowing in their unique colors.

"I hope Madeline cares for you as well, I think she does, I have known her her whole life and have never seen her happier than she is when she is around you and talking with you. This is a gift from her uncle to make sure that her protector is the most powerful beast master near her at all times. That means if you need anything, I mean anything, consider yourself a son of mine and ask for it." The prince had a tear in his eye which confused the hell out of me as I felt I should be the one crying receiving all these gifts out of nowhere. I could literally feel my own power growing just standing there with the box open nonetheless the future king just called me his son. What is happening!

"Now go send Adam in here as I need to have a word with him as well." The tear that I swore I saw forming never formed and his face was still friendly but now more serious as I left the room. The team was standing outside of the door all waiting patiently for me to exit and I looked at Adam "He wants to speak to you now." I was still holding the box but had covered it so they all asked me what was in it as Adam entered our room.

'These gems will be more helpful once you have grown more, we can keep these gems safe in your dimensional space they gave us in the armor. Also the mana can still be utilized if you open the box and leave it in your storage. It will be more effective later on but will help in that form.' Wispy informed me. I did as it said to do and I could feel the power from the gems like he said, not as effective as out in the open but still it was noticeable.

I explained the gems to the team while I did what Wispy asked by placing them in the dimensional storage. Joey pulled out multiple items he had already put in his storage causing all of us to laugh as it was pretty ridiculous. But since the attack on our room everyone put their stuff in the dimensional storage and our room was basically barren now anyways. We pretty much had learned from this experience to organize and utilize the storage in our armor yet we were still not efficient.

A few minutes later Adam and Prince Austin came out of the room. Adam had a confidence on his face that was contagious. His smile was from ear to ear, if it could go further it would. Abby was the one to speak up as even she was shocked by Adam's face. "What just happened? Why are you looking like that!"

Adam then pulled his hands from behind his back producing a large black case. He opened the case and purple arcane energy glowed out of the box as he then pulled out with one hand a katana made with an obsidian handle. The moment his hand grabbed the handle a handleguard emitted out of the point the blade and handle came together and it was pure arcane energy. Then a line of purple energy started flowing down the blade from the handle to the tip. The last tenth of the blade was now lit in arcane energy.

Adam had his trifecta, no wonder he was beaming in joy. On top of it, it looked like it enhanced his arcane attacks or was enhanced by arcane energy which he possessed. Adam even wondered if it would be different for me so he asked me to hold it to test out his theory. The prince watched eagerly as well as I grabbed the sword and it too lit up in purple arcane energy. So the katana was attuned to arcane energy, not all of the elements.

Abby tested the sword and it never lit up at all and was a simple katana with no handguard. So that proved all the theories we had about the katana but in the long run it wouldn't matter as it was Adam's sword not anyone else's and good luck getting it off of him!
