While our first appearance at Muhlhauser Academy was quite the show stopper, our second arrival turned the heads of those that saw us. The ancient wyvern was still a new sight to many so that caught people's attention but seeing a student flying next to the wyvern that was carrying five others was quite the sight to behold. Adam had flown the entire way keeping up with Xelo by staying in his drag and optimizing his flight. Something Xelo taught him quickly as we flew to the Academy.
Right before we made it to the Academy Adam bursted forward to be head to head with the ancient wyvern. The crowds below gasped seeing the spectacle. The landing brought the usual crowd of bewildered students never having seen Xelo before or missed their opportunity the last time we were here.
The principal for Muhlhauser Academy was standing with a group of the other principals from several other academies. The look on their faces was of disgust as they saw Adam land next to Xelo. As we landed we could see them approach where we were and the moment Adam landed they asked him his name, year in school, and beast rank. Adam was taken back by the abrupt questioning the moment we landed but appeared they came prepared to get us the moment we landed.
I approached them as Adam finished up saying that Dante just became a silver rank beast but hadn't tested for it. The Devlinham principal narrowed his eyes at me and the rest of us in our obsidian armor and whispered something into the Muhlhauser principal's ear. Then the focus was shifted to me.
"Jordan Kane, second year, my elemental wisp is a silver rank not yet tested." I replied not understanding what was going on. Their focus and questions then went on to the rest of our team and when Abby and Maddy proclaimed to have bronze ranked beasts they asked each of them why theirs weren't silver like ours. Abby and Maddy had legitimately shrugged their shoulders having no idea what happened to us.
The principals then walked away as Mr G landed right as they had finished their interrogation and he of course had a puzzled look on his face seeing multiple principals departing from his students. Mr G ran off in a hurry to catch up to the group to find out what just happened. I wanted to say something to him about how they knew something was up as we landed but I never had the chance to say it as he scurried away.
We went to check the board on the arena to see what time our battle was estimated to start. The one thing about arena battles was that there was a ten minute maximum but if it only took one minute then they moved onto the next so the current time was not accurate unless you were the first up. The board was blank and had a lot of students around it all talking about why it wasn't displaying any teams.
"Team Arcanum report to the arena battleground at once!" Someone announced to the group of students standing around the second year. The six of us proceeded to the arena to find the same principals and now Mr G all standing with multiple devices next to them.
"We will be testing the four of you on your spell power and physical capabilities as you proclaim to have four silver ranked beasts not yet tested. This will be your test." The same voice from before and suddenly I realized it was the principal of Muhlhauser Academy speaking.
Travis went first and when he stopped a silver ranked attack without even budging they knew he was a silver ranked tank. Joey's sais connected with the target at a pace that only someone with the power of silver rank could hit the target. Adam shot arcane flames from thirty yards away which is only possible at the silver rank. I shot an arcane barrage at a target and the power rating recorded was that of silver rank.
We were told to standby and our futures would be decided so we went back to the boards to see what was happening. The first year students board was completely filled with their entire schedule for the weekend in terms of possibly getting a second or third match in while ours was completely blank. Then right before the first battle was to start in the arena the board filled up and we couldn't find team Arcanum anywhere.
"There must be a mistake, I didn't see Arcanum, where is Arcanum?" Joey spoke up for all of us as we were all coming to the same conclusion at the same time.
"About that…" Mr G suddenly spoke up from behind us. "A bi-law that was added to the academy arena laws that states any first or second year with a silver beast or higher is not permitted to battle in the arena against bronze or iron beasts. Silver beasts can only battle silver beasts so the student would have to battle at a higher level."
"So we are fighting third years now?" Travis exclaimed a bit alarmingly loud for the situation and question.
"No, that is where bronze beasts are not permitted to battle against silver beasts so Maddy and Abby would not be allowed to participate. The third years already have their teams and sixes is already a long list of battles as it is. The best thing I could say is to either the four of you go solo or one of you go solo with the other three doing trips but I wouldn't want to make that call for you." Mr G concluded.
We all looked at each other with somber expressions on our faces as none of us wanted our sixes team to be done. The realization that Abby could now run solo was the first thing pointed out by Abby and then Adam claimed the same to go at it solo. I looked at Travis and Joey who basically would either team up with me or fight solo or not fight at all were the options. I didn't want to be the one to say it and thankfully Joey said it for me.
"I don't want to speak for Travis but I think he would agree, we both want to watch you two destroy the solo ranks so please Jordan have at it!" Joey offered up and Travis gave an emphatic nod of agreement.
With that figured out we watched the battles since we had already made the trip but since the solo fights were only at the tournament the team fighting was the only thing happening on the weekends. Watching trios for the first time at Muhlhauser Academy was fun to see how the same battle field would play out completely differently with the six combatants versus the twelve.
When we finished dinner instead of staying the night we decided to head back to the comfort of our own beds. The fact that we didn't have to get the school's personnel to get our ride for us was a privilege that didn't escape me. I thought it was awesome how Dante could call Xelo to pick us up and while having that thought Wispy informed me he could do the same.
'Wispy is now a silver rank, we can communicate through our link we formed on the first flight together. This level of access wasn't possible till he was silver' Xelo suddenly communicated to me through Wispy while he was clearly a long distance away and I could hear him clearly.
'This is what you meant by you could feel our stress' I replied through the link.
'You will learn more as you grow, this is a good start though' Xelo informed me.
