Ava's POV
Leo read the text three more times.
She watched him do it. Each time his eyes moved across the screen, his face got quieter, which she had learned meant the opposite of what quiet usually meant. Quiet on, Leo. Pressure was building behind a wall. Quiet on Leo was the moment before something gave way.
He put the phone down on the nightstand.
Then he stood up and walked to the window.
"Who is Dominic to you?" she asked.
He didn't answer immediately. He stood with his back to her and looked at the city below, and she let the silence sit because she was learning when to push and when to wait, and this was a waiting moment.
"His name isn't Dominic," he said finally. "It's Marco."
She waited.
