Chapter 25 - Chapter 25: Infighting

An armored personnel carrier, with Ada Wong's vehicle behind it.

On the armored vehicle, the Umbrella Corporation logo was exceptionally striking; it seemed the Umbrella Corporation's special unit had entered the mansion even earlier than Ada Wong.

Finding a secluded corner in the forest, Asa parked the car, got out, and immediately activated his optical stealth mode.

With a full-body shudder, his flesh and clothes instantly turned transparent. At close range, a human shape could barely be discerned, but from a distance, he completely blended into the surrounding environment.

Optical camouflage.

He started running at an extremely high speed, the air around him surging.

Ada Wong and the Umbrella Corporation's tactical team had entered the mansion before Asa. It appeared the Umbrella soldiers were at full strength without being separated, and with their full equipment, their situation was far better than the Alpha Team in the game.

So, what was the purpose of this UBCS team coming to the mansion?

Going by Umbrella Corporation's typical MO, if they were sent to seal off the entire mansion and Arklay Laboratory, the first choice for deployment would be the USS team, all of whom were elite soldiers like Asa—Umbrella Corporation's sharpest sword and toughest shield.

The situation of the UBCS was definitely not comparable to the USS. Most of the time, UBCS members were temporarily recruited and formed.

During the Raccoon City crisis, the UBCS, who were ordered to assist in handling the biohazard outbreak, were completely abandoned.

Therefore, Asa guessed that this UBCS team was also highly likely sent over to serve as lab rats.

The armored vehicle door was locked from the inside. Asa tried to pull it, but it wouldn't open.

It was a mechanical device; his hacking operating system was useless against it.

Inside Ada Wong's car, Asa did find a pleasant surprise.

The member list of the UBCS team that came to the mansion this time.

UBCS Delta Team, with eight members in total.

Asa scanned it briefly; he recognized the other six people completely, but two names caught his attention,

Carlos Oliveira, Nicholai Ginovaef.

One was the protagonist of the other route in the third game, and the other was the mastermind in the third game.

This mansion is quite lively.

...

After receiving the order from Umbrella Corporation headquarters to retrieve research data and prevent the virus from leaking, Mikhail Victor led the UBCS Delta Team and rushed to the Spencer Mansion located in the suburbs of Raccoon City.

This was the team's first time receiving an order from Umbrella Corporation to eliminate out-of-control B.O.W.s. Since the team consisted entirely of combat units, the entire team entered the mansion.

However, the reality of the situation gave them a huge shock.

Dead people coming back to life, gnawing on corpses.

The world-famous paintings that Jill Valentine and the others were supposed to appreciate—when the UBCS team members saw them for the first time, the horror made their scalps tingle.

Fortunately, the team had sufficient weapons.

Because Umbrella Corporation claimed the data was lost and did not provide the team with a map of the mansion's interior, the team members had to search for it themselves.

During the exploration of the mansion, team member Nicholai got separated, and another sniper, Lawrence, was ambushed by a giant snake that appeared from the shadows, falling into a coma from the snake venom.

The situation underwent a subtle change.

Just as everyone wanted to temporarily withdraw, the main door to escape the mansion had been locked by someone unknown, and it could not be opened by conventional means.

In fact, there were many windows on the first and second floors to escape to the outside, but after the main door was locked, armored shutters dropped over all the windows, turning the entire mansion into a locked room.

By now, how could Mikhail and the others not realize that there was someone else lurking in the shadows of this mansion?

The remaining six people had to place the wounded in a room on the second floor, leaving one team member to look after him, while the other five went together to find a way out.

Deep underground.

Albert Wesker, with his golden slicked-back hair—suspected to be bald—was in a dimly lit surveillance room, putting on his goggles to monitor the actions of everyone in the mansion.

The door to the surveillance room slowly opened, and UBCS team member Nicholai walked in.

"Wesker, what are you still waiting for?"

The B.O.W.s hadn't been fully released yet, and the combat data hadn't been fully collected; Nicholai, who had been sent by Sergei to monitor this operation, was naturally very concerned.

As for betrayal, it was out of the question; he was originally a mole planted by Umbrella Corporation within the UBCS. His role was precisely to sacrifice the entire team at the critical moment to test the B.O.W.s' combat data.

Wesker said:

"The T-002 Tyrant's condition is unstable; releasing it now might lead to it being killed. They need to suffer more casualties first."

"You are the one in charge here, it's your call."

Nicholai shrugged indifferently. In fact, before this operation started, Sergei, the head of the Caucasus Laboratory, had warned him that Wesker had ulterior motives, and if Wesker showed any signs of betrayal during this mission, he was to be executed.

Nicholai naturally kept this firmly in mind. He glanced at Wesker, who was staring intently and solemnly at the monitors, and thought to himself:

"I will be watching you the whole time, Wesker!"

Just then, in a corner of the surveillance screen, a figure in a red dress flashed by.

As Wesker was about to zoom in on that image, the lights in the surveillance room suddenly flickered.

On the surveillance screens, one image after another turned into static; no matter how Wesker switched them, the screens could not return to normal.

"What is happening!"

Nicholai also got anxious; he also needed the surveillance footage to collect combat data.

"All the surveillance footage has been hacked! The intruder must have extremely high clearance; I can't operate the facility's system."

Wesker kept making attempts, but no matter how he operated it, he couldn't even open or close a single door.

In fact, this experience reminded Wesker of the mysterious pixelated person who had appeared on the monitors a month ago. These two experiences were so similar—first the footage was cut, and then he lost control of the laboratory's systems.

"Who exactly are you?"

Wesker fell silent, and Nicholai, behind him, quietly raised the gun in his hand.

Regarding this series of sudden events, Nicholai believed it was highly likely that Wesker was staging it himself.

Who didn't know that Wesker was the master of this laboratory?

"You're the one behind this, aren't you, Wesker!"
