[Third Person's POV]
Lucas's decision to take a day off had paid off in their relationship's favor because they ended up talking about troubles they hadn't told each other yet.
"You know, you could have told me that Martha was bothering you," Lucas says, "you always acted like you asked for her help when she took over your duties."
"I… I just thought she was doing it out of the goodness of her heart until she started talking about how you two loved each other."
"What!?" Lucas shouts, flabbergasted, "What did she say?"
"Well, she kept telling me she had you first and…..."
"Had who first?" Now Lucas is looking at Selby with nothing but confusion, which is making Selby more confused.
"Weren't you the one who said you and she had history?"
"And her family had history. I almost married her vile cousin, and her mother was the one who saved me from making the worst mistake of my life," he calmly explained.
"Is that so?" Selby says, confused, that Martha had been holding the reason that she dated Lucas over her head since she started working, and now, she is finding out it was all lies.
"That is why I hired her, because her mother asked for a favor as her daughter couldn't get a job, which is it, the history I meant." He continued calmly.
"Oh…."
"Wait, so when you said you got it when I said we had history, what type of history did you think?"
"Well, Martha said you guys dated and you loved each other very much and you will get back together," Selby explained.
"Gosh, that is messed up. Why didn't you confront me about it? This means I was having you work with my ex, whom I loved so much, while claiming to love you."
"Well…. I didn't want to lose you…..."
"Selly!" Lucas says quickly, kneeling in front of Selby, "Never compromise your happiness because you don't want to lose me."
She slowly nodded shyly, "Yes, I am sorry, I just…. I really don't want this to fail."
"And it will not, if we communicate more about things that hurt us and things we don't like, okay?"
Selby nods, "Well, I don't like working with Martha; she is mean to everyone around her and doesn't respect my authority."
"I will deal with her; I was already going to deal with her for bringing that parasitic old man into my office, and this just adds a layer to my dismissal of her job," Lucas says firmly.
"Isn't that a bit too extreme?" Selby asks.
"No, it will never be too extreme. Disrespecting my Selly is the worst offense a person can do," he smiles at her before placing a soft peck on her feet, "Since we have a day off, why don't we enjoy each other?"
As Lucas gets ready to worship every part of Selby's body, she is also getting ready to be more self-sufficient; maybe her previous relationships had damaged her self-esteem, so she is putting her values aside to save her current relationship.
But Lucas had proved to her over and over again that she need not do that, and she needed to learn to love herself more in this relationship.
She finally decided to see a therapist soon to help her with her PTSD she got because of her previous relationships.
[Later on]
Their day was surely enjoyable, and they were sure their night would be even more enjoyable, but it seemed that was not even possible.
They are frozen on the couch where they were getting ready to go for yet another round, and at their door is Heath and Fiona, who are equally frozen from what they are seeing.
"What are you guys doing? Geez, in the couch of all places?" Heath scolds angrily, as they quickly cover themselves up.
"What are you guys doing back here?" Selby asked.
"This is my apartment," Fiona fires.
"You mean ours?" Selby says confidently, making Fiona roll her eyes.
"You haven't been here for a whole week, I thought you would never set foot here," Fiona says, pushing through to her room. "Please dress properly, and order some food for us."
"And stop using our couch for your unholy stuff," Heath says, following Fiona behind.
The two couldn't help but laugh watching them walk away. They hadn't talked in a long time, so it would be fun to catch up.
After a while, everyone had met in the living room, with both Fiona and Heath refusing to sit on the couch like cowards they are.
"So, your father came to your office? Impressive timing. My mother just brought me a hotel bill to pay this morning," Heath says, annoyed, "Those two will never grow up, huh?"
"It seems so, but don't worry, I will sort them both out. I have a lawyer ready," Lucas says proudly.
"Is that why you guys are here? You two fought, and Selby ran back here?" Fiona pointed out.
"Wow, you sure know your friend," Lucas says, "but we sorted it out, there is no way this one is walking out of my life, she is stuck with me."
"You really need to stop freaking out each time something goes wrong in your relationship, Selly," Fiona says.
"I am going to try a little more," she says shyly, "It is more like a trauma response, but I will deal with it."
"You mean we will deal with it?" Lucas says. Smiling at her, before taking her lips for a passionate kiss.
"Come on, you are not alone," Heath grumbles. After that, there was a door knock, and Fiona stood up to get the food.
She freezes for a moment, "Here is your food," she is brought back to reality by a happy voice.
"Oh…. Um... thank you," let me get my card.
"No…. please, it is on the house, you know, you are Selly's friend, and I wouldn't charge you," the man says confidently, making Fiona's blood crawl.
Selby's ex, who not only broke her heart but also got her fired from her job as revenge, this man always tells her he changed to get her back, then breaks her heart yet again.
Fiona knew this was probably another way to get back with her, "Oh… that wouldn't be ideal, Selby's boyfriend is the one who ordered food for us, and he wouldn't like it if someone else paid for it."
"But you said you were going to get your card," Daryl says, confused.
"Well, I didn't want to hurt your feelings, Daryl," Fiona says, "Lucas, can you come and pay for the food?"
She quickly walks away from the door. Lucas, who is ignorant of Fiona's tactics, rushes to the door, handing the man his card with no hesitation. But he is not ignorant enough not to notice how the man scowls as he takes the card.
"You have a problem?" Lucas asks, and the man just shakes his head. After paying, Lucas takes the food and turns to leave, and hears the man say.
"You know Selby is a crazy b*tch, right?" making Lucas's face red with anger before looking back and saying, "You know I own the pizza place you work at, right?"
Daryl is white with fear and freezes, "Yeah, watch your mouth about my girl."
Lucas closes the door in his face, walking inside with the pizza unfazed, finally understanding why Fiona let him pay, and happy about it.
