Chapter 39 - Chapter 39 – The second Husband

[Third Person POV]

After arriving at the empty house, Heath called his security team to start monitoring Fiona from Gian's house since she would be living there for the time being.

He hated it; everything happening just seemed to annoy him alone, and he hated how no one seemed to notice what he had been noticing, and worst of all, Fiona was getting angry at him.

He signed. Maybe he should relay his message in a better way. Communicating was never his strongest trait; the people who raised him had deprived him of a healthy way to communicate, as they showed their emotions by hurting each other.

"What should I do now?" he said out loud. He felt like he was losing Fiona.

In fact, it is not a feeling; it is actually a reality. He was sure he was behaving a bit childishly, but couldn't Fiona just listen to him more?

'Then again, I am not even telling her what is bothering me,' he says to himself. 'I should talk to her.'

His night was quite unsettled; he couldn't sleep a wink, he knew Fiona was not one to tolerate nonsense, and his childishness might cost him this relationship, and it bothered him heavily.

And it is true, Heath Fashion did another childish thing; he went to the club and drank until everyone had left.

"Um, sir, it is time to close," the bartender says.

"I can take him with me," one of the waitresses said, extending her hand to touch him.

"F!ck off," he said, tossing her hand away, "I will leave," he tells the bartender, taking out a wad of cash.

"Is there a bar that opens around 24 hours?" he asked.

The bartender had picked up the cash, counted it, and widened his eyes at the handsome tip. He looked at the wasted and sad man in front of him before saying, "There are no 24 bars that I know. I think it is better to drink at home."

"Alright," Heath says before walking away.

"Why did you lie to him?" the waitress asked. "There is a bar just a few minutes from here.

"I think he needed to cut down on alcohol a bit; it is not safe for a man of his caliber to go around drinking alone this late," the bartender said, "Come on, let's be quick, I need to get home.

Heath, on the other hand, felt like the man was right about going to drink at home, or maybe just call it a night, since he had to pick Fiona up the next morning.

Logic was present regardless of how drunk he was, but it was never followed; instead, Heath had gone to a liquor store, bought some beers, and driven to Gian's house.

He had parked just near enough to see Fiona's room, and he had continued to drink until the next morning.

And still awake, he watched Fiona wake up and get ready for work before recklessly driving to the house to pick her up.

Fiona was in complete awe of what was standing in front of her, "Heath?" she called calmly.

"Hey, I am here to pick you up," he says, his drunken state clear from the foul smell of alcohol to the dirty clothes he wore yesterday.

Fiona took a needed deep breath, "Come in," she said calmly.

"It is okay, Fee; it is almost seven, so you will be late if…."

"Heath Duncan, come inside!!" Fiona says angrily.

Heath took a deep breath before walking inside, trying his best to stay on his feet.

Fiona directs him to the bathroom, "Take off your clothes," she says gently.

"I am okay, Fiona, you need to go to the office; you will be late," Heath says.

"And you plan to drive me to work?" she asks firmly, to which he nods enthusiastically.

She held two fingers in front of him and asked, "How many fingers am I holding up?"

"Five?" he answered. She facepalmed herself before dragging him to the shower.

"Take off your clothes and shower," she sternly ordered before turning to leave.

"Are you going to leave me? Is this the end?" Heath asks, looking straight into Fiona's eyes.

"What are you talking about? You are the one who wants to end this relationship," Fiona says.

"Why would I want that? I love you, and I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Why would I want this to end?" Heath says. Fiona didn't seem surprised by this.

It seems Heath's current state had already proven to her that he didn't want the relationship to end. She looks at his pitiful state before taking a deep breath.

"Take a shower and come downstairs. I will have breakfast ready for you," she said before leaving.

She meets Gian downstairs, who looks worried, "Was that Heath?"

"Yes, he is drunk out of his mind right now," Fiona says. She had borrowed some of Gian's clothes to give to Heath.

And after that, she quickly put together some food for him, as she could deduce, he might not have eaten.

"Can I be a little late today? I want to make sure he eats and sleeps. I should also call his office and tell them he is not coming in," she asks Gian.

"Why? Heath is not a child; he should take care of his mess himself," Gian replied, annoyed.

Before she could reply, they both heard Heath's amused laugh, "Yeah, why should you take care of me? You have better things to do," Heath says.

"Ugh…. Don't you dare start, sit down, and eat," Fiona says, dragging him to the chair. "He will sleep in the room I was sleeping in; I promise he will not be any trouble."

"You can go, I will take care of him," Gian says, annoyed.

"But…..."

"Just go, Fiona, you are in charge today. Remember, a ship cannot run without the pilot," Heath says. The shower had helped a little.

"Fine," Fiona sighs, "Just don't forget to drink this, it will help with the hangover."

Heath nods, "I hired some bodyguards for you, you will meet them outside my car," Heath tells Fiona, who just nods before rushing out.

Heath sighed, watching her walk out, 'She didn't kiss me,' he thought to himself.

"What are you up to?" Gian says angrily.

"Nothing," Heath says, eating his breakfast.

"Is this your plan to get Fiona to break up with you? You are not strong enough..."

"Are you out of your mind? Why would I want to break up with the woman I love? I am just angry at how she has been treating herself. Matter of fact, how you and Clover have been treating her disgusts me, and it hurts that she lets it," Heath finally snapped.

"What do you mean by that?" Gian says defensively.

"Why does Fiona have to drop everything to help you with something you could have done yourself? You could have calmed your wife down yourself and explained to her, but no, it had to be Fiona."

"That is because Clover understood..."

"Because you let her, each time something goes wrong in your marriage, you don't even attempt to solve it, you call Fiona."

"That is absurd," Gian says hesitantly.

"Is it? Or maybe you have made Fiona a third-party to your marriage for so long you no longer notice when you are doing it, like it is always your crisis first before Fiona's life."

"That is not true, Heath, you are out of your mind. There is nothing wrong with how we treat Fiona."

"Is that so? That is why, instead of letting her find a way forward with a crazy woman trying to kill her, she had to be hugging and consoling your wife about something you should have been doing. You treat her as if she is your wife's second husband," Heath says, before taking his food and medicine and walking away, leaving Gian to think.
